RACE 2 (R425) CLASS 5 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE A)

ACE SURPRISE (SS Vanan) and BLACK AHEAD (App KC Wong) bumped on jumping.

D’GREAT BATTALION (S Thai Yang) had to be eased off the heels of CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE (F Yap) shortly after the start and as a result, lost some ground.

SPARKLER (App S Zulfikri) was caught racing wide in the early and middle stages before gaining a position outside the leader at the 600M.

CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE and BLOOD ROYAL (J Low) were caught racing wide throughout the event.

At the 400M, ACE SURPRISE shifted out to gain clear running and ran home strongly.

Approaching 300M, CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE shifted in and as a result, BLACK AHEAD was taken in onto LITTLE JUMBO (App SU Lim).

MR EPIC (D Chong) had a tendency to lay in from the 200M resulting in the rider having to be straightened and ran home strongly.

Upon returning to scales, Jockey S Anandan, the rider of GHOST ACE, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout the race. GHOST ACE which distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey D Chong into the tactics that were adopted on MR EPIC throughout the event. Jockey D Chong reported that his instructions were to try and gain a midfield position, however, informed the Stewards that prior to mounting the gelding, he was informed to try and be in a more handy position.

Jockey D Chong reported that after beginning well from a wide barrier, he attempted to improve his position, however, it failed to respond to his riding and as a result, found himself further back than he had anticipated. Jockey D Chong stated that he placed the gelding under pressure shortly after entering the front straight where it ran home strongly into 3rd position.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films, advised Jockey D Chong that in future he would be expected try and improve his position in the middle stages in an endeavour to get closer to the leaders and he would have been able to finish better than 3 ½ lengths. The Stewards were satisfied with his explanation and noted his comments for future reference.

RACE 3 (R426) OPEN MAIDEN – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

NOVA GENERAL (App A Zaimuddin) reared as the gates opened upon jumping.

MASTER OF SUCCESS (App S Saddam) shifted outwards and bumped STEERING (Lou Ho) and as a result, STEERING, having received the bump, shifted outwards and inconvenienced NOVA DASHING (App WK Lee) and RUSH-MORE (J Shankar).

Making the turn at the 1000M, WAWA MASTER (M Zairi) which was over-racing, had to be eased off the heels of SEMIFREDDO (S Ruzaini) which rolled in at this point.

NOVA DASHING had a tendency to over-race at the rear of the field and had to be continuously checked off the heels of runners in front.

Approaching the 200M, RUSH-MORE had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure when being struck with the whip.

Leaving the 200M, STEERING rolled in marginally and as a result, NOVA GENERAL shifted in and away from that gelding and brushed the running rail resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and losing some ground.

Upon returning to scales, App WK Lee, the rider of NOVA DASHING, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout the race. NOVA DASHING which was beaten 21 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

METEOR GARDEN (S Ruzaini) was restrained at the start, then shifted abruptly towards the rail to gain a trailing position.

SATELLITE KING (M Zairi), HAPPY SIXTYSIX (S Sandana), FLAMING FIREHEART (App KC Wong), MISTER MIYAGI (S Anandan) and POLO BOY (App SU Lim) were all caught racing wide throughout the event.

The Stewards questioned Jockey M Ganeesh into the tactics that were adopted on GREENSTONE in particular why in the last 300M, he failed to continue his use of the whip as the gelding was improving its position. Jockey M Ganeesh stated that at this point, he had to gather his reins in an endeavour to shift outwards to gain a clear run and as a result, lost minimum momentum, however, once in the clear, the gelding ran home well. He also added that GREENSTONE may have suited further distance than today’s 1400M.

The Stewards were not fully satisfied with his explanation, however, took no action on this occasion given the circumstances. His explanation was noted for future reference.

RACE 6 (R429) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Upon jumping, LUCKY DAPPER (S Sandana) shifted outwards and as a result, SPIN FIRE (L Sofhan) was taken out onto SACRED KLASS (App T Krisna).

TOTALITY (F Yap) jumped awkwardly.

SPIN FIRE, LUCKY DAPPER, RED SAPPHIRE (Lou Ho) and D’GREAT EMINENCE (J Low) were all caught racing wide in the early and middle stages from wide barriers.

TOTALITY had a tendency to race ungenerously throughout the event.

Approaching the 450M, D’GREAT EMINENCE had to shift out over the heels of MAZANDARAN (S Anandan) in order to gain a clear run.

LUCKY DAPPER had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure approaching the 200M.

SPIN FIRE which was beaten 19¾ lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of DANCING TSURU, into the reasons why he appeared to lose some ground at approximately the 1000M mark. Jockey S Ruzaini stated that he had pressure from TAKEAIM (App A Zaimuddin) from his outside and as a result, had to check his horse and lost ground.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films, were of the opinion that approaching the 1000M, MOGAN’S PRIDE (HK Cheng) had a tendency to lay inwards resulting in TAKEAIM being taken inwards which placed DANCING TSURU and HAPPY EDDINGTON (J Shankar) in restricted racing room and as a result, DANCING TSURU lost some ground. It was also noted that DANCING TSURU ran home well into third position.

The Stewards could not blame any rider for this incident, however, Jockey HK Cheng was shown the official patrol films of the incident and reminded of his obligation to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

PERFECT ATTACK (D Chong) had a tendency to over-race in the early stages.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 5
SLTC, Saturday, 1 April 2017

GHOST HANA (App A Zaimuddin), SEA WORLD and THE OMEGA MAN (F Yap) were all caught racing wide throughout the event from wide barriers.

Approaching the 900M, GHOST EMPEROR (Lou Ho) had to be eased off the heels of FORTUNIQUE (L Sofhan) and shifted out to gain a clear run.

PERFECT PEARL (J Shankar) was held up for a clear run entering the front straight behind runners in front and had to be eased by its rider.

Approaching the 350M, CRAZY CLUB (App S Saddam) shifted out to obtain a clear run over the heels of MR ARMSTRONG (TK Barnabas).

Approaching the 300M, LISTEN (App S Zulfikri) shifted in several horses when ridden along with the whip and as a result, SEA WORLD had to be severely checked by its rider and JUSTICE WORLD (S Ruzaini) was inconvenienced.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Zulfikri, the rider of LISTEN, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer M Sukri, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 200M when being ridden forward with the whip, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of SEA WORLD (J Low) resulting in Jockey J Low having to severely check his mount. JUSTICE WORLD was also inconvenienced in this incident.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Zulfikri’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 3 April 2017 and to expire on 9 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:15pm).

Approaching the 150M, CRAZY CLUB (App S Saddam) had a tendency to lay outwards and as a result, MR ARMSTRONG had to be eased off that gelding’s heels. Jockey TK Barnabas, the rider of MR ARMSTRONG, was reprimanded for unnecessarily striking his horse forward of the shoulder.

LITTLE LION (App A Zaimuddin) was held up for a clear run in the early part of the home straight behind runners in front.

Leaving the 300M, KEEPER’S PRINCESS (App WK Lee) was placed in restricted room when NO MONEY NO TALK (D Chong) shifted in under pressure and as a result, KEEPER’S PRINCESS had to shift out from that gelding’s heels in order to gain a clear run.

CRESCENDO which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Shankar, the rider of JP SUMMER, into the reasons why he failed to ride his mount out with the required vigour from the 200M. He stated that he placed the gelding under pressure from the 500M but it failed to respond to his riding and after leaving the 200M, the horse was flat and in his opinion, he did not want to punish the horse.

The Stewards advised Jockey J Shankar that the minimum requirement that is expected by the Stewards is at least hands and heels unless he feels that there may have been something amiss with the gelding. The Stewards did not take any action on this occasion, however, reminded him of his obligations.

RACE 7 (R391) OPEN MAIDEN – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey C Goon, the rider of V FOR THAILAND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 800M, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of MAGIC RANGER (App S Saddam) which was taken in onto ALL SILVER (J Shankar) which had to be severely checked by its rider.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 8
SLTC, Saturday, 1 April 2017

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Goon’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 27 March 2017 and to expire on 8 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:30pm).

……………………….

SATURDAY, 1 APRIL 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2017

Prior to the running of the first event, the Stewards called the Club Doctor for his opinion on a report submitted by Jockey J De Souza in relation to a course of medication taken by him over the last several days. The Club Doctor informed the Stewards that the medication given to Jockey J De Souza contained several prohibited substances and was concerned for his safety whilst mounted on a horse given some side effects from this type of medication.

The Stewards advised Jockey J De Souza that for this reason, he was stood down from fulfilling his riding engagements at today’s meeting and a clearance certificate must be tendered prior to riding trackwork and races.

……………………….

RACE 9 (R393) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

The Stewards questioned Jockey Lou Ho into the riding tactics that were adopted on ESPERANZA in particular in the home straight as in the opinion of the Stewards, Jockey Lou Ho failed to show sufficient vigour from the 400M as expected.

Jockey Lou Ho stated that racing to the 1000M, the gelding had a tendency to over-race and as a result, had to shift out to gain clear racing room and found himself 4-wide for the remainder part of the event and he believed that he placed the gelding under pressure but it failed to respond to his riding. Jockey Lou Ho agreed with the Stewards’ observations that he may have been able to show a bit more vigour than he did on this occasion.

The Stewards, after giving consideration to the run that ESPERANZA had throughout the event and given the track conditions, did not take any action against Jockey Lou Ho, however, informed him that the Stewards expected him to show far greater effort than he did on this occasion. A warning was issued.

……………………….

SATURDAY, 1 APRIL 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2017

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons why Mr Budin b. Sahamid, an employee of Trainer Anna Scott, and Mr Jefrizal b. Hamid, an employee of Trainer PS Kumaran, were situated behind the barriers prior to the running of Race 7 today. These 2 employees will be stood down from their respective duties until an inquiry into this matter is completed.

SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2017
SATURDAY, 27 MAY 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Philip Anderson (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R679) CLASS 5 – 1100M (SHORT COURSE C)

MY TOUCH stood flat-footed when the gates were released and failed to jump despite the efforts of Jockey J Shankar. The gelding will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the starting stall tests at consecutive weekly intervals) before being declared to race again.

KING OF SEAL (HS Gill) jumped away awkwardly and shortly thereafter, shifted in, taking ARLO (S Ruzaini) in which resulted in TAKE A BOW (App W Faizal) having to be steadied and lost its position.

LITTLE MAN (App S Saddam) raced wide from the 800M until entering the home straight.

MILITARY STAR (App M Hanif) which was difficult to settle, had to be steadied on several occasions racing to the 600M to avoid the heels of IKTO (App KC Wong).

The Stewards questioned Trainer C Leck into ARLO’s improved performance as against its recent form. Trainer C Leck explained that the gelding had shown him little in his training and he elected to race him with blinkers which in his opinion, had contributed to the improved performance of the gelding today. His explanation was noted and he was warned in terms of MRA Rule 117(3) regarding inconsistent and unreliable running.

SEA MASTER (App KC Wong) raced wide from the 800M until entering the straight.

GOLD STAR PRINCESS (SS Vanan) had to be steadied racing to the 200M when MYSTIC WARRIOR (HS Gill) rolled in.

TRUE HERITAGE which was beaten 25 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Low and Trainer R Lines into the performance of FIORELLA. Trainer R Lines stated that as the mare had led at its last start and stopped, his instructions were to be midfield. The Stewards noted his explanation.

Jockey J Low stated that he got a good jump and settled midfield but from the 800M, he was taken wider and raced wider until entering the straight and when being put under pressure, the mare failed to respond to his riding and finished the race fairly. A post-race veterinary examination of FIORELLA revealed no significant finding.

RACE 5 (R609) CLASS 4 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 13 MAY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on Friday, 26 May 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of ARC CARA and took further evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and Trainer of ARC CARA respectively.

Trainer S Dunderdale’s evidence was noted.

After reviewing the films and considering the evidence tendered, Jockey M Ganeesh was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

1. from the 300M to the 150M, in the Stewards opinion, he showed no initiative or purpose to obtain a clear run; and

2. at the 100M when the clear run was available to the gelding, he hesitated and failed to use sufficient vigour for some distance.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey M Ganeesh’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months with effect from 28 May 2017 and to expire on 27 September 2017, both dates inclusive. Jockey J Shankar explained that he carried out his instructions but felt that the gelding was not travelling well and at the 800M, he used the whip on several occasions and again at the 600M, however, when DIRAC failed to respond to his riding, he elected to use his whip in the left hand in the straight in an effort to get the gelding to finish the race. Jockey J Shankar’s explanation was noted but he was warned to ride all his horses out in such a manner so as to leave no room for query, in particular on this occasion, his use of the whip.

RACE 2 (R493) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)
MITAVITE SUSTAINA STAKES

The start of this race was delayed several minutes when LITTLE LION (HS Gill) proved difficult to be loaded into the barriers. The Stewards ordered the gelding to be loaded riderless and loaded straight in. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (App T Krisna) stood flat-footed, refused to jump and was very slow to begin. Trainer R Lines was advised that the mare will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

Upon jumping, SHAHPUR JAT (J Shankar) was crowded for room when D’GREAT VICTORY (App S Thai Yang) jumped outwards and AMI ELEVEN (J Low) jumped inwards and as a result, lost some ground.

Shortly after the start, LUCKY SIXTYSIX (S Sandana) received a bump on the inside of TILSWORTH MALI (TK Barnabas).

AMI ELEVEN had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and got its head up.

MR EPIC (HK Cheng) and ACE SURPRISE (SS Vanan) were both caught racing wide throughout the race.

LUCKY SIXTYSIX had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages and had to be stopped and straightened by its rider.

The Stewards questioned Trainer MP Thwaites and Jockey S Vanan into the disappointing performance of ACE SURPRISE. Trainer MP Thwaites could not offer any tangible reason for the horse’s performance today, however, believed the horse is better suited over the 1300M than in today’s 1200M. Jockey SS Vanan stated that ACE SURPRISE was under pressure throughout the event and he used his whip in an endeavour to improve his position, however, it failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary and endoscopic examinations of ACE SURPRISE revealed that it was lame near fore and returned with upper respiratory tract abnormality respectively, and as such will be required to undergo an endoscopic examination (after 2 weeks) at rest and thereafter pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again. ACE SURPRISE was impounded.

MITAVITE CUP

Upon jumping, BLOSSOMS SEQUEL (App L De Souza) jumped outwards and as a result, KUTTNER (HK Cheng) was inconvenienced.

MY POWER (CK Tan) jumped outwards and made contact with KUTTNER.

SPIN FIRE (L Sofhan) and TRUMPS UP (M Zairi) were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 200M, DANCING TSURU (App KC Wong) shifted in under pressure when being struck with the whip and as a result, MISTER MIYAGI (S Anandan) clipped heels and blundered. The Stewards in not taking action against App KC Wong, took into consideration he was making an attempt to straighten the gelding.

KUTTNER shifted wider entering the front straight and laid in under pressure over the final 150M resulting in the rider having to stop and straighten. A post-race veterinary examination of KUTTNER revealed no significant finding.

Jockey Lou Ho, when questioned in relation to his ride on CAPTAIN JAZZ over the concluding stages, explained to the Stewards that he lost his off side rein over the final 200M as in his opinion, the gelding was running straight and in an endeavour to win the race, he failed to pick up his off side rein and in his opinion, it may have lost some momentum had he done so. The Stewards were satisfied with his explanations and noted his comments for future reference.

The Stewards questioned rider Jockey S Anandan, the rider of MISTER MIYAGI, App SU Lim, the rider of REMEMBER ME, App T Krisna, the rider of HIGH TROJA and Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of BADCOE into the reasons why MISTER MIYAGI and REMEMBER ME had to be severely checked at approximately the 1050M.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of BADCOE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 1050M, he shifted in when insufficiently clear of HIGH TROJA resulting in that horse being taken in onto REMEMBER ME and MISTER MIYAGI. This resulted in REMEMBER ME and MISTER MIYAGI having to be severely checked, and REMEMBER ME clipped heels and blundered.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 17 April 2017 and to expire on 30 April 2017, both dates inclusive. SATURDAY, 6 MAY 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding
(Running rail in true position for the entire circuit)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Michael Castillo (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R578) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GOOD VIBRATIONS (App L De Souza) which cast its off fore plate behind the barriers, had to be replated, was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

At the request of Jockey S Anandan, the saddle on VALBERRY was readjusted behind the barriers as the saddle had moved forward. VALBERRY then broke through the front gates on 2 occasions and was apprehended quickly. VALBERRY was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to take its place in the field and reboxed. The mare will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported after the race that VALBERRY returned with a cut on its left nostril. The mare will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

The Stewards questioned Jockey SS Vanan and Trainer R Lines into the disappointing performance of the last start winner, CHAMPAGNE ROSE. riding at all stages throughout the event, however in the concluding stages, the mare ran home well.

Trainer R Lines explained that in the mare’s previous race starts, it was loaded last and the mare has shown early gate speed on previous occasions. He further stated that he was disappointed with the performance.

The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, gave Jockey SS Vanan a “benefit of the doubt” on this occasion, however, sternly reminded him of his obligations under similar circumstances in future. A post-race veterinary examination of CHAMPAGNE ROSE revealed no significant finding.

SUNDAY, 7 MAY 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Good
(Running rail in true position for the entire circuit)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Michael Castillo (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R587) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Acting on veterinary advice that SUPER GOOD (Lou Ho) was lame near fore, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 1:15pm. SUPER GOOD will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

CRESCENDO (WK Yan) jumped awkwardly.

LIM’S RANGER (App A Zaimuddin) jumped inwards and inconvenienced DEKATI (M Ganeesh).

Approaching the 500M, HEIRRO (M Zairi) began to race fiercely and had to be checked off the heels of SUNTZU (App KP Lim) and shortly after this incident, DEKATI shifted out resulting in CRESCENDO being placed in restricted racing room and had to be checked by its rider.

CRESCENDO and EAGLE SOAR (App T Krisna) which were beaten 21 and 22 1/4 lengths respectively, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App A Zaimuddin, the rider of LIM’S RANGER, in the presence of his Master, Trainer BT Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(i) in that shortly after the start until about the 1000M, he rode his horse inwards and as a result, jostled EAGLE SOAR for some distance and approaching the 900M, CRESCENDO and HEIRRO suffered some interference and had to be checked by their riders in this incident.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Zaimuddin’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App A Zaimuddin’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 15 May 2017 and to expire on 14 June 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:06pm).

RACE 2 (R588) CLASS 5 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

After jumping from the barrier, MONTE CARLO (J Low) shifted inwards abruptly and as a result, Jockey J Low was dislodged. The Stewards advised Trainer R Lines that in view of the gelding’s previous record, MONTE CARLO will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the starting stall tests at consecutive weekly intervals) before being declared to race again.

Shortly after the start, AMI ELEVEN (App L De Souza) shifted out and bumped JUST VITAL (S Anandan).

AMI ELEVEN had a tendency to over-race and got its head up in the early and middle stages.

RISING STAR (F Yap) and JUST VITAL (S Anandan) were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

BLADEMEISTER (App KC Wong) was momentarily held up for a clear run at the 300M.

GHOST ACE (App A Zaimuddin) which was beaten 30 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Steward questioned Jockey S Sandana and Trainer F Maynard into the tactics that were adopted on GRAND SHOW in particular in the home straight.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, Jockey S Sandana was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that he failed to shift to the outside in order to gain clear running and elected to go to the inside where in the opinion of the Stewards there was insufficient racing room. As a result of this move inwards, GRAND SHOW was held up for a clear run from the 400M until the 100M where he ran home strongly.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Sandana’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from 8 May 2017 and to expire on 7 July 2017, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM20,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (4:25pm).

The Stewards could not blame any rider in this incident as SHINING GLORY and CLIP THE TICKET were racing fiercely at this stage.

Making the turn at the 1000M, TOTALITY rolled in causing BUKIT SUBANG having to be checked by its rider.

Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of AUD DOLLAR, was fined the sum of RM1000/- under MRA Rule 44(12) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

Approaching the 150M, MESSI (F Yap) was momentarily inconvenienced when PACHELBEL’S CANON (S Anandan) rolled outwards and SAM THE MAN (J Low) rolled inwards.

Over the concluding stages of the event, MIA (App T Krisna) shifted in under pressure and BATTLE HORSE (App M Hanif) shifted out under pressure resulting in both horses making contact.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Shankar and Trainer Anna Scott into the tactics that were adopted on THE MILLIONAIRE as the Stewards were concerned why Jockey J Shankar was so far back in the race and was doing its best work over the final 150M.

Jockey J Shankar reported that the gelding raced flat throughout the event and was attempting to improve his position early as his instructions were to be mid-back position but it failed to respond to his riding throughout the event. He further explained that in his opinion, the gelding is not suited in the 1200M and in fact, needed further. He reported this to Trainer Anna Scott upon returning to the scales.

Trainer Anna Scott reported that she was attempting to ride the gelding back in its races as it has been unsuccessful when ridden forward in its previous starts and is also of the opinion it is better suited to 1400M to 1600M events.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards were satisfied with their explanations and noted their comments for future reference.

TAFFETAS (App KC Wong) was caught racing 3-wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 600M, LISTEN (J Shankar) had to be eased off the heels of INDIAN JADE.

Approaching the 200M, INDIAN JADE laid out under pressure when being struck with the whip and as a result, LISTEN had to shift in over that gelding’s heels.

Leaving the 100M, INDIAN JADE rolled inwards and as a result, LISTEN shifted in slightly.

Upon returning to scales, App T Krisna, App KC Wong and Jockey S Ruzaini, the riders of MR ARMSTRONG, TAFFETAS and JUSTICE WORLD respectively, all reported that their horses raced greenly.

App A Zaimuddin, the rider of INDIAN JADE, was fined RM1000/- under MRA Rule 121(7) for weighing in 1.2kgs over his declared weight.

An objection was lodged by Trainer Anna Scott, the Trainer of LISTEN (J Shankar), placed third against INDIAN JADE (App A Zaimuddin), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference in the home straight on two (2) occasions.

After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood. Trainer Anna Scott was fined RM2000/- under MRA Rule 122(3) for lodging an objection being deemed by the Stewards to be frivolous.

RACE 9 (R586) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SATURDAY, 6 MAY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 7 May 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the racing tactics that were adopted on ESPERANZA. Evidence was taken from Jockey Lou Ho and Trainer F Maynard, the rider and Trainer of ESPERANZA respectively.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, Jockey Lou Ho was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that the Stewards were of the opinion that from approximately the 700M until the 400M, he should have improved his position and he failed to allow the horse to fully stride by having a firm hold on the gelding which restricted its forward motion. The Stewards were also concerned why he failed to shift inwards to gain a clear run entering the front straight.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Lou Ho’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 8 May 2017 and to expire on 7 August 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (12:43pm).
