Jockey O Chavez (VARIANT) appeared before the Panel and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which in his opinion, contributed to the defeat of VARIANT. In this regard, he explained that after jumping, he took note that Jockey B Pinheiro had committed SUPER BOWL to a forward position, therefore he elected to take cover. However upon doing so, Jockey B Pinheiro himself elected to take cover and as a consequence, Jockey O Chavez elected to sit outside of the leader as his horse takes time to unwind.

He further explained that turning for home, he noted that Jockey SU Lim on MEGA RISING, was inclined to lay out, consequently, he attempted to hold his position and prevent MEGA RISING (SU Lim) from carrying him out and opening up the inside running line, however, despite his efforts, he was unable to do so. In the straight, he explained that when he drew his whip on VARIANT, he felt that his horse became hesitant and did not gather momentum with such encouragement. Accordingly, he elected to merely show the whip over the last 200M, which in his view, resulted in the horse producing its best finishing performance and closing to within a head of victory. The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey O Chavez.

Jockey S Ruzaini appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his ride on KITSUNE. In this regard, his attention was drawn specifically to whether or not he could have drawn his whip in his right hand after his horse showed inclination to lay out from the top of the straight. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that he had ridden KITSUNE on its last run and this horse has tendency to lay in badly. Therefore, prior to this race, he was conscious of this gelding’s behavior and sought to use the whip on his left hand in order to prevent to this horse from shifting in away from the whip if hanging in.  Jockey S Ruzaini further explained that on viewing the footage, KITSUNE was hanging in which resulted in him being cautious about drawing his whip in his right hand as there was other runners on his inside. Jockey S Ruzaini added that whilst he accepted he was shifting out away from the whip in by the concluding stages of the race, he was of the view that had he used his whip on his right hand, the movement of his mount would have been more severe and potentially prejudiced to other runners. The Panel noted his explanations and the matter will be drawn to the attention of the Trainer F Maynard who will be requested to take all reasonable measures to assist this horse tractability in races.

From the 400M to the 100M, KSATRIA raced near the heels of RED SUN. Thereafter KSATRIA from behind of RED SUN shifted out to continue its run.

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey J De Souza, the Jockey of the judges’ second placed horse, KSATRIA against the judges’ first placed horse, RED SUN (CK Khaw) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Panel of Stewards overruled the objection and ordered the judge’s result to stand.

In arriving at this decision, Stewards considered that despite hanging out in the straight, RED SUN appeared to raced more than a length clear of KSATRIA until approximately the 100M when KSATRIA clearly secured the running on the outside of RED SUN and from that point both RED SUN and KSATRIA had a fair opportunity to race to the finish.

CHEVAL ARTIST

(Y Aify)

Jockey was fined RM50/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(c) for using his whip forward of the shoulder.

Jockey S Ruzaini appeared before the panel and was questioned regarding his ride on EVER RELIABLE. His attention was specifically drawn to whether he could take more proactive measures from the 700M to 550M mark, during which time SHEESH appeared to increase his lead on the field.

In this regard, he was of the view that SHEESH which was up in weight and distance, had run a fast middle sectional of the race and he anticipated that the horse would come back to the field. However, as EVER RELIABLE doesn’t show good tactical speed in the running, he was cautious not to take this gelding out of the comfort zone too soon. In his view, had he done so, EVER RELIABLE would not have finished its race off as strong as he did. The Panel noted his explanation.
