RACE 1 (R947) CLASS 5 – 1100M

App AK Lim (CABRERA) and App KC Tham (ASTROHEAT) were each fined RM150/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 44(2) for failing to arrive on course at least one hour prior to the advertised time of their first carded engagement.

ZAC GALLANT (App KC Wong) stumbled at the start.

MY SWALLOW (S Ruzaini) was difficult to settle on the turn at the 800M.

CABRERA entered the home straight wide.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that ASTROHEAT returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of LEE’S MELODY (J Chuah) revealed no obvious abnormality. The mare was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Jockey S Sandana, the rider of DARK EXPRESS, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

After taking initial evidence from Jockey S Sandana and Trainer T Asogan, the rider and trainer of DARK EXPRESS respectively, an Inquiry into the riding and handling of DARK EXPRESS was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App S Rosmizan, in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Hamilton, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44 (9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding HACKER passing the 900M, he shifted inwards when insufficiently clear of CABRERA, resulting in CABRERA being carried inwards onto DUBLEO BEAUTY and BLACK SEQUALO (App S Saddam) which had to check and at the same time, bumped the hind quarters of POLO GAGA, unbalancing its rider, Jockey SU Lim.

When deciding on the penalty, the Stewards took into account App S Rosmizan’s guilty plea and his previous riding record. App S Rosmizan was suspended from riding in races for two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from Monday, 31st July 2017 and to expire on Saturday, 12th August 2017, both days inclusive. He was informed of his Right of Appeal (3.00 pm).

TIME AFTER TIME (SU Lim) was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

WARN YOU MAN (S Sandana) was slow into stride.

Q NINE MAC (App KC Wong) had a tendency to hang out from the 900M and raced wide rounding the turn and into the home straight.

Post-race veterinary examination of Q NINE MAC and SUPER BONUS (App AK Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality. Both geldings were Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

TOMORROW’S GOLD (App CC Foo) raced wide from the 800M until entering the home straight.

GOOD CODE (App KC Tham) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SHARP KNIGHT (WK Yan) revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

App CC Foo, in the presence of his Master, Trainer HS Lim, was shown the video of his ride on TOMORROW’S GOLD and was advised to improve his competitiveness and use more vigour in his rides throughout the race, failing which action may be taken against him in future.

Jockey S Sandana, the rider of JACKPOT, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of FAIRBORN, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such, FAIRBORN will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

NATURE IS NATURE (HS Gill) which proved difficult to be boxed and caused some delay, will be required to pass one starting stall test before being declared to race again.

BLOSSOMS SEQUEL (App L De Souza) became restless after being loaded into the barriers and threw its head down prior to the start.

BERCHAM (F Yap) hesitated at the start, was slow into stride, showed no early pace and took no interest in the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Approaching the 1400M, ACIPENSER (R Woodworth) checked from a tightly-bunched field.

Approaching the 200M, NANA (Z Khairil) had to be steadied between BERCHAM and BLOSSOMS SEQUEL when these horses came together.

Post-race veterinary examinations of MESSI (App S Saddam) and NANA revealed no obvious abnormality. MESSI was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

SO THE THING which was down 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

SPIN FIRE (S Sandana) which was restless in the barriers, jumped awkwardly outwards and brushed D’GREAT RICH (SU Lim).

Approaching the 100M, POLO BOY (App AK Lim) had to be steadied when CIZEN MAN (R Woodworth) rolled out under pressure.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SHELLOMADA, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of D’GREAT RICH and MR DREYFUSS (C Goon) revealed no obvious abnormality.

COLIN THE FIRTH which was down 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

ORIENTAL SPIRIT (Z Khairil) was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race at the request of the rider and was passed fit to race. Jockey Z Khairil was warned about the comments he made to the Veterinary Surgeon behind the barrier.

AUDACIOUS (App S Saddam) was slow into stride.

COLIN THE FIRTH (App W Faizal) and BLACK RAIN (C Goon) over-raced in the early stages and were difficult to settle.

AUDACIOUS raced wide from the 800M until entering the straight.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SEE FOR YOURSELF (S Sandana) returned broken-winded and as such will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of AUDACIOUS revealed no obvious abnormality. AUDACIOUS which raced poorly will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

FULL BET, which was down 21kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

STORM HERO (S Sandana) was slow to begin.

RUBICON (G Pereira) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

MAYWEATHER (M Yusri) jumped away outwards bumping FULL BET (D Chong) which shifted out, causing BLADEMEISTER (S Ruzaini) to steady and lose position.

Racing to the 1000M, RUSH (WK Yan) had to be steadied to avoid HUSSAR (Z Khairil) which rolled in.

Post-race veterinary examinations of RANGITAIKI (C Goon) and BLIXEM (App KC Wong) revealed no obvious abnormality. RANGITAIKI was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

The Stewards showed Jockey HS Gill the vision of his ride on HOME RUN HERO in the straight and advised him that in similar circumstances, he would be expected to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.

THE PROFESSIONAL (J Chuah) raced poorly and trailed the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. THE PROFESSIONAL will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of DEPUTY LAW (App S Saddam), LAZAROO (R Woodworth), ALACARTE (SU Lim) and FASTNET STAR (WK Yan) revealed no obvious abnormality. DEPUTY LAW and LAZAROO were both Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

The report dated 21 July 2017 (V17/079) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 33 coded urine and 33 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 15 July 2017, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

The Chief Analyst of Usains Biomics Laboratory, in a report dated 21 July 2017, stated that Urine Sample coded J-3458 which was submitted by App KP Lim on 15 July 2017 is cleared of any prohibited substances and as such, App KP Lim is cleared to ride trackwork and trials.

POST RACE ANALYSIS (EQUINE) OF REFEREE SAMPLES
10TH – 11TH JUNE 2017
PENANG JUNE MEETING 2017

On 25th July 2017, the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory advised PNTC Stewards that BOTH Referee Samples numbered “09079” (GOOD MUMMY) and “09102” (ELF’S DREAM), on analysis returned positive for “Naproxen”. Trainer R Lines, the trainer of both GOOD MUMMY and ELF’S DREAM was notified of ARFL’s analysis reports on 27th July 2017.
Inquiries into the matter will be held at a date to be fixed.

INQUIRY INTO THE REASONS MISS ANNA MAREE SCOTT (TRAINER A SCOTT) FAILED TO ATTEND AN INQUIRY AT THE PNTC ON 9TH JUNE 2017 AND THEN ATTENDED THE PNTC RACE MEETING ON 10TH JUNE 2017 IN HER CAPACITY AS AN MRA TRAINER WHEN SHE HAD LODGED A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE DECLARING HER MEDICALLY UNFIT FOR THE PROPER PERFORMANCE OF HER DUTIES ON 9TH AND 10TH JUNE 2017

The PNTC Stipendiary Stewards on Friday, 28th July 2017, concluded an Inquiry at the Penang Turf Club into the above matter. Evidence was taken from Trainer A Scott.

Trainer A Scott was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 152(4) for misleading the Stewards into believing that a Medical Certificate declaring her medically unfit on 9th and 10th June 2017, resulting in the Inquiry which was set on 9th June 2017 into the positive sample of ILUMINADO had to be postponed. Furthermore, she attended the races on 10th June 2017 and performed her normal duties at PNTC which, in the opinion of the Stewards, was misleading.

When deciding on the penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of the case and mitigating factors. She was fined a sum of RM2,500/- (Ringgit Malaysia Two Thousand Five Hundred) and was advised of her Right of Appeal (2.05 pm).

On 29th July 2017, she exercised her Right of Appeal to the Racing Stewards.

The Appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.

APPLICATION FROM TRAINER A SCOTT FOR A STAY OF SENTENCE AGAINST THE ONE-YEAR DISQUALIFICATION AND FINE OF RM50,000/- CONCERNING POST-RACE URINE SAMPLE CODED “08342” TAKEN FROM “ILUMINADO” WHICH FINISHED 1st IN RACE 6 (R1588), MALAYSIA GROUP 1 – 2000M, 25th DECEMBER 2016, 3rd DAY, PENANG DECEMBER YANG DI PERTUA NEGERI GOLD CUP MEETING 2016 AND WHICH UPON ANALYSIS, REVEALED THE PRESENCE OF “METHAMPHETAMINE”, A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE UNDER THE MRA RULES & REGULATIONS

On 24th July 2017, Trainer A Scott exercised her Right of Appeal against the one year disqualification and fine of RM50,000/- imposed by the Stipendiary Stewards with regard to the above case and applied for a Stay of Sentence.

The Stipendiary Stewards on Friday, 28th July 2017, heard Trainer A Scott’s application for a Stay of Sentence which was denied. However, she was advised of her Right of Appeal to the Racing Stewards (3.35 pm).

On 29th July 2017, she exercised her Right of Appeal to the Racing Stewards against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards for not granting her a Stay of Sentence.

The Appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.

After being loaded into the barriers, WARN YOU MAN (SS Vanan) became restless and FIRST OPTION (App S Rosmizan) became restless and reared.

At the start, FLYING HORSE (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly inwards and SUPREME SASSO (R Woodworth) jumped awkwardly outwards. GREEN TRACER (App CC Foo) and LAZAROO were both tightened and had to be steadied out of this incident, losing some ground.

At about the 800M, THONG’S JIAQING (App M Sathiaa) was difficult to settle and steadied off the heels of LUCK TREASURE (App J Daniel) which received some pressure from UNCLE GLORY (App AM Aizat).

GREEN TRACER was caught wide on the turn into the home straight.

Post-race veterinary examinations of EASTWOOD (HS Gill), FIRST OPTION and LAZAROO revealed no obvious abnormality. LAZAROO was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination. EASTWOOD which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

HERE COMES THUNDER (App AM Aizat) threw its head up at the start, jumped awkwardly, was slow to begin and checked shortly after the start.

SEE FOR YOURSELF (D Chong) had a tendency to lay outwards on the home turn and was unbalanced.

GERMAN SPEED was caught wide on the turn into the home straight.

Rounding the turn into the home straight, HERE COMES THUNDER steadied inwards.

EXPLOSIVE FORCE had a tendency to lay outwards in the home straight and finished the race wide.

1st Day, Saturday, 3rd June 2017

A post-race veterinary examination of TRIPLE COIN (App KC Wong) revealed no obvious abnormality except that the gelding returned having cast its near fore plate.

Post-race veterinary examinations of GERMAN SPEED and GREAT GERONIMO (App J Daniel) revealed no obvious abnormality. GREAT GERONIMO was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

App AK Lim, the rider of EXPLOSIVE FORCE, reported that his mount was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Trainer J Tan, when questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of FLAMING FIREHEART (C Goon), advised the Stewards that FLAMING FIREHEART had a disappointing run in KL in its last outing on 13th May 2017 and he felt, in his opinion, that the extra distance of 1600M was too far for this horse. Trainer J Tan’s explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding “in-and-out” running (MRA Rule 117(3)).

After taking initial evidence from App AM Aizat in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer Nor Azman, and Trainer KF Wong, the trainer of HERE COMES THUNDER, an Inquiry into the running and riding of HERE COMES THUNDER was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

PERFECT FIXER (S Thai Yang) was difficult to settle in the back straight.

JETSTAR EAGLE and TOMORROW’S GOLD (D Chong) were both trapped four wide on the turn from the 700M to the top of the home straight.

In the concluding stages, ALACARTE (App SU Lim) and FAIRBORN (App AM Aizat) were inconvenienced when tightened between IT’S DONE MATE (App AK Lim) which drifted outwards, and GREAT PRINCE (App KC Wong) which laid inwards.

GET THE LOTSKI (App KC Wong) hesitated at the start and shortly afterwards, steadied when tightened between PERFECT RUN (App T Krisna) which jumped awkwardly outwards and MATA MATA (R Woodworth) which jumped awkwardly inwards. PERFECT RUN and MATA MATA both bumped in this incident.

GOLD COAST CAPTAIN (App S Saddam) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped GLORY AGE (S Thai Yang) at the start.

PERFECT PEARL (TM Wan) was difficult to settle in the back straight.

JOYFUL (App AK Lim) was caught wide on the turn into the home straight.

SACRED CITY (SS Vanan) was difficult to be boxed and after being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, reared and got its front foot caught over the front partition. SACRED CITY was taken out of the barriers and checked by the Veterinary Surgeon. To avoid further delay, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SACRED CITY at 3.30pm. The gelding will be required to pass a starting stall test before being declared to race again.

At the start, KERAUNO (S Anandan) jumped awkwardly outwards.

PROFESSOR X (S Salee) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start and bumped MIA (App L De Souza).

STICK SEEKER (Y Aify) hesitated at the start, jumped awkwardly inwards onto RIGHT TIMING (TM Wan) and was a little slow to begin.

At about the 1100M, PROFESSOR X raced tight on the inside of WORLD HARMONY (App Z Khairil) and brushed the running rail.

The saddle on STICK SEEKER slipped backwards during the running.

At the same time, NEVERUNCONDITIONAL (App J Daniel) was tightened when bumped between V RESPECT U (App S Saddam) which jumped awkwardly outwards, and MULTI WEALTH (S Anandan) which jumped awkwardly inwards. Shortly after this incident, V RESPECT U shifted inwards, bumping UNCLE POLO (App SU Lim) onto FIELD FORCE which was tightened on the outside of SUPERB SEVEN which continued to shift outwards.

CLASSIC KING was momentarily held up for a clear run in the concluding stages of the race.

At about the 100M, MESSI (App J Daniel) switched outwards for a clear run and App J Daniel dropped his whip when changing his hold prior to the finish of the race. He was warned that a repetition of dropping his whip may lead to a penalty being imposed in the future.

A post-race veterinary examination of LA QUINTA (App SU Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Emergency acceptor, VICTORY MARCH was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

GO LANCE, a course scratching as it had a swelling at the near fore tendon, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

DETERMINE TO WIN, a course scratching as it suffered a nail prick on the near fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SOUTH EMPEROR (HS Gill) was restless in the barrier.

SIR RALLY (D Chong) and SAND LANE (S Anandan) were difficult to settle in the back straight.

HUSSAR (App Z Khairil) was trapped wide rounding the bend at the 800M.

Approaching the 300M, SAND LANE was steadied when tightened on the outside of SOUTH EMPEROR which switched outwards around the heels of BLACK SEQUALO (App M Sathiaa).

At about the 300M, EMPIRE BAY (App AK Lim) and ROYAL CHOICE (App CC Foo) were tightened and had to steady on the outside of SOUTH EMPEROR which shifted outwards over the heels of BLACK SEQUALO for clear running.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that ROYAL CHOICE returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockey D Chong, the rider of SIR RALLY, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding returned lame off fore. SIR RALLY will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of BAZINGA (S Salee), HUSSAR and SAND LANE revealed no obvious abnormality. BAZINGA and HUSSAR were both Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

COCONUT (R Woodworth) and RACING MAN (App M Sathiaa) were slow into stride.

ELEGENT (D Chong) dipped at the crossing at the 1500M.

COCONUT showed no pace despite being urged.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that ONE MORE ACHIEVER (App AM Aizat) returned cut into near hind coronet and will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

On 29th May 2017, Jockey J Low submitted a written request to withdraw his Appeal against the 2 days’ suspension imposed by the Stipendiary Stewards for careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in connection with his riding of HOLDING FAST in Race 4, Sunday, 30th April 2017.

On 3rd June 2017, the PNTC Racing Stewards considered Jockey J Low’s request which was acceded to. The Racing Stewards deemed Jockey J Low’s deposit as forfeited. His suspension of 2 Malaysian race days will take effect from Sunday, 4th June 2017 and will expire on Sunday, 11th June 2017, both days inclusive.

“23406” which upon analysis, was tested positive to “Caffeine”, a prohibited substance.

CELERITAS, trained by Trainer S Cook, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards as it had failed its pre-race test and was impounded.

USains Biomics Laboratory report dated 29th May 2017 confirmed that the impounded sample which was taken from CELERITAS contained “Caffeine”, a prohibited substance.

Trainer S Cook was informed of the findings on 30th May 2017 and advised that under MRA Rule 134(12), CELERITAS is barred from racing until a cleared sample is provided. Trainer S Cook was also advised of MRA Rule 137 with reference to the referee sample. An Inquiry will be held at a date to be fixed.

CODED “23406” RETURNED POSITIVE TO “CAFFEINE”, A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE.

The Stipendiary Stewards on Friday, 2nd June 2017 concluded an Inquiry into the above matter at PRTC.

Evidence were taken from Trainer S Cook, the trainer of CELERITAS.

Trainer S Cook pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(13) and punishable under MRA Rule 134(7) in that he, as the trainer and person responsible for presenting CELERITAS to run in the above race. CELERITAS was withdrawn prior to the race as it had failed its pre-race test and its impounded sample coded “23406”, subsequently upon analysis returned positive to “Caffeine”, a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules & Regulations.

When deciding on a penalty, the Stewards took into account Trainer S Cook’s guilty plea, mitigating factors and his previous records. Trainer S Cook was fined a sum of RM5,000/-. He was informed of his Right of Appeal (10.10am).

The PRTC Racing Stewards today, Thursday, 25th May 2017 heard the above Appeal at Perak Turf Club.

After hearing the submissions from Jockey HK Cheng and the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards dismissed the above appeal.

Jockey HK Cheng’s four months suspension from riding in races will take immediate effect from today, Thursday, 25th May 2017 and will expire on Sunday, 24th September 2017, both dates inclusive. In addition, the fine of RM20,000/- imposed remains. His deposit was forfeited.

HEARING FOR AN APPLICATION FOR A STAY OF SENTENCE BY JOCKEY M GANEESH IN RELATION TO HIS SUSPENSION OF 4 MONTHS AND FINE OF RM20,000/- FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING OF “ARC CARA” IN RACE 5 (R609) CLASS 4 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 13 MAY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2017

Jockey M Ganeesh subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence against the penalty of the suspension of 4 months and fine of RM20,000/-imposed by the Stipendiary Stewards on 26 May 2017.

The Stewards, on 1 June 2017, heard an application for a Stay of Sentence by Jockey M Ganeesh. After hearing his submission and after careful consideration, the Stipendiary Stewards decided NOT to grant Jockey M Ganeesh a Stay of Sentence. His suspension commenced on 28 May 2017 and to expire on 27 September 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards to the SLTC Racing Stewards (11:15am).

The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of 4 months and fine of RM20,000/- will be held at a date to be fixed.

Approaching the 200M, HAPPY CHOICE (App S Rosmizan) drifted outwards. Shortly afterwards, FULL MEANING (Lou Ho) which had a tendency to lay inwards, brushed HAPPY CHOICE which was tightened between FULL MEANING and D’GREAT WALL (S Ruzaini) which received some pressure from MASTER OF SUCCESS (App KC Wong). FULL MEANING continued to lay inwards towards the finish of the race.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that WASHINGTON BAY bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of ACIPENSER revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such, ACIPENSER will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of CONDADO revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

App M Sathiaa, the rider of GOLDEN EMPIRE, was shown the video replay of the finish in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Cook and was warned that he must ride all his mounts out fully to the finish of the race. In issuing this warning, the Stewards were satisfied that GOLDEN EMPIRE could not have beaten the winner.

At about the 200M, SIAM THE TRIUMPH steadied on the inside of ECLIPSE STAR (S Ruzaini) which rolled away from the whip.

HEART’S CHOICE raced wide on the bend from the 800M.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that HEART’S CHOICE bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of HUSSAR (App CT Lee) revealed that the gelding returned having cast its off fore plate.

Post-race veterinary examinations of GABBAR and SAND LANE (HK Cheng) revealed no obvious abnormality. GABBAR was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Rounding the turn at about the 400M, HIGHLAND FALCON stumbled, unbalancing App S Saddam. STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT (App T Krisna) which was following, steadied outwards in this incident.

Post-race veterinary examinations of STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT and D’GREAT RICH revealed no obvious abnormality. D’GREAT RICH was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

ONE MORE ACHIEVER (S Sandana) jumped awkwardly at the start. Shortly afterwards, KING SAVINSKY and ONE MORE ACHIEVER bumped.

CHARLIE CAME ALONG (S Anandan) and COCONUT (R Woodworth) were both slow into stride.

Passing the 500M, MOLLY BROWNE (WK Yan) had to steady when racing up onto the heels of GHOST CITY (S Thai Yang).

Passing the 200M, GHOST CITY laid outwards and Jockey S Thai Yang had to straighten his mount on a few occasions.

Jockey S Thai Yang, the rider of GHOST CITY, was questioned regarding his ride over the concluding stages. An Inquiry into this matter will be held at a date to be fixed.

Passing the 800M, HENNESSY DRAGON (S Anandan) was tightened for room when
BLACK RAIN rolled inwards onto SOUTH EMPEROR (App Z Khairil) which in turn
was carried inwards onto EXPLOSIVE FORCE (App KC Wong). Jockey F Yap was
shown the video replay of this incident and was warned to exercise more care when
shifting ground in future.
Q NINE MAC (S Thai Yang) took the home turn wide and entered the home straight
wide.
At about the 50M, EXPLOSIVE FORCE switched over the heels of BLACK RAIN for
clear running.
Jockey WK Yan, the rider of GOLDEN SAND, will be shown the video replay of the
finish and warned that he must ride all his mounts out fully to the finish of the race. In
issuing this warning, the Stewards were satisfied that GOLDEN SAND could not have
beaten the winner.

RACE 6 (R525) CLASS 4 – 1600M
WENONA’S LEGACY, a course scratching as it had a nail prick near fore foot, will be
required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
This race was rescheduled to start at 4.30 pm.
At the start, App J Daniel, the rider of CLASSIC ARROW, lost the use of his near side
stirrup iron which he regained shortly afterwards.
Shortly after the start, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of RED SAPPHIRE, lost the use of his
near side leather which became undone. Thereafter he was unable to assist his mount
throughout the race.
Shortly after the start, CARBON COPY (M Yusri) rolled outwards, carrying V
RESPECT U (S Sandana) outwards onto GREENSTONE (J Shankar) and became
unbalanced.
Shortly after the 300M, SACRED KLASS (App T Krisna) rolled outwards and brushed
SOCOTRA (CK Tan).
MAZANDARAN (App AM Aizat) drifted outwards under pressure in the concluding
stages.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that V RESPECT U returned lame near fore and as
such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of CARBON COPY revealed no obvious
abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical
examination.
At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App AM Aizat, in the presence of his Acting Master,
Trainer F Maynard, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule
44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding MAZANDARAN rounding the first turn at
approximately the 1400M, he allowed his horse to shift inwards sharply, carrying
SACRED KLASS onto I’M A GENIUS (App S Saddam) which was racing on the inside
running rail and had to be checked. After considering all the evidence and submissions
by Trainer F Maynard and App AM Aizat, App AM Aizat was suspended from riding in
races for three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from Monday, 24th April 2017 and to
expire on Sunday, 7th May 2017, both days inclusive. He was informed of his Right of
Appeal (5.05 pm).

This race was rescheduled to start at 5.05 pm.
POWERFUL FIGHTER (Lou Ho) was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4.39 pm as
there was no suitable replacement rider available.
At about the 1300M, SWISS BANK (HS Gill) steadied from a tightly bunched field.
At approximately the 1200M, BIG EGO (J Chuah) and PROPITIONS GOLD
(S Anandan) were crowded for galloping room when tightened between MATA MATA
(App CT Lee) which drifted inwards, and ROYAL CHOICE (HK Cheng) which was
turned outwards.
At about the 1100M, BIG EGO and SERPICO (TM Wan) were both inconvenienced
when PROPITIONS GOLD ran about.
At about the 200M, App Z Khairil, the rider of DROUGHT, dropped his near side rein.
BIG EGO which raced poorly and tailed off will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet)
before being declared to race again.

RACE 8 (R527) CLASS 5 – 1400M

This race was rescheduled to start at 5.40 pm.
ALACARTE (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly inwards at the start.
LEAP OF FAITH (App J Daniel) threw its head, jumped awkwardly at the start and was
slow to begin.
At about the 1000M, LUCOSTAR (J Shankar) appeared to break down, eased off from
the field and was taken out of the race. RAINBOW FISH (App L De Souza) and
ALACARTE which were following, both had to take evasive action in this incident.
Jockey S Thai Yang, the rider of LAZAROO, was fined RM250/- for negligence under
MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip at about the 1100M.
Post-race veterinary examinations of LUCKY MONEY (App CT Lee) and ALACARTE
revealed no obvious abnormality. LUCKY MONEY was Impounded for further
veterinary and analytical examination.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that LUCOSTAR fractured its near fore medial
sesamoid bone and was humanely euthanized.

The Stewards today (23rd April 2017) concluded an Inquiry into the above matter at the
Penang Turf Club. Evidence were taken from Jockey J De Souza and Miss Chan Sue
Hay, Analyst of USains Biomics Laboratory.

Jockey J De Souza was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the
particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded J-6186, submitted by him on 18
th
March 2017 at the Penang Turf Club March Meeting 2017, upon analysis, revealed the
presence of “Ephedrine”, which is a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.
In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account all the evidence, his previous
record and mitigating factors. Jockey J De Souza was suspended from riding in races
for a period of three (3) months, consecutive to his current suspension, i.e. with effect
from Saturday, 6th May 2017 to expire on Saturday, 5
th August 2017, both days inclusive.
In addition, Jockey J De Souza was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 44(2) for leaving
the race course early without Stewards’ permission on 18th March 2017.
He was informed of his Right of Appeal (1.30 pm).
NB: On 21st April 2017, Usains Biomics Laboratory confirmed that a clearing sample
submitted by Jockey De Souza was negative to any prohibited substance and in
view of this, the Stewards have permitted Jockey J De Souza to continue riding
trackwork and barrier trials with effect from Monday, 24th April 2017.
On 23rd April 2017, Jockey J De Souza subsequently lodged an Appeal against the
decision and penalty imposed by the Stipendiary Stewards. In addition, he applied for a
Stay of Sentence which was denied by the Stipendiary Stewards.
Jockey J De Souza subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal to the Racing Stewards
against being denied a Stay.
The Appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.

BUTCH CASSIDY, a course scratching as it had fever, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

JOE SWIPER (S Ruzaini) and STORM HERO (HK Cheng) were slow into stride at the start.

STORM HERO showed no early pace.

Passing the 200M, MARINI WALTZ (J Chuah) drifted outwards and at the same time BLACK RAIN (F Yap) shifted inwards away from the whip, resulting in EMPIRE BAY (J Low) being brushed and tightened for room. Jockey F Yap, the rider of BLACK RAIN, was shown the video replay of the incident and was warned to make more attempt to keep his mounts on a straight course in future.

ROCKET EXPRESS (SS Vanan) was eased out of the race prior to the finish.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that ROCKET EXPRESS bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

SOUTH EMPEROR fly-jumped at the start and dipped, unbalancing and dislodging App Z Khairil. App Z Khairil was exempted from weighing in and was taken to hospital for observation. BLACK SORCERER (M Ganeesh) was carried outwards in this incident. App Z Khairil who was indisposed will be questioned regarding this incident at the start on a date to be fixed.

At the start, LUCKY MONEY (App CT Lee) was tightened when GOLDEN SAND (WK Yan) jumped outwards and LAZAROO (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly inwards.

ANAK PENANG (SS Vanan) raced keen in the early and middle stages.

At the start, KING OF THE CREEK (S Ruzaini) fly-jumped and shortly after the start, was squeezed between COCONUT (App CT Lee) and EMPEROR QIAN LONG (TM Wan) which was in turn squeezed outwards by FAIRBORN (S Anandan) which jumped sharply outwards. EMPEROR QIAN LONG and KING OF THE CREEK lost ground in this incident.

AGUERO (S Sandana) was trapped wide on the first turn.

Passing the 500M, AGUERO ran up to the heels of FASTNET STAR (F Yap) and had to steady outwards.

Post-race veterinary examinations of HOME RUN HERO (S Thai Yang) and KING OF THE CREEK revealed no obvious abnormality. Both geldings were Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

RACE 4 (R542) CLASS 4 – 1300M

At the request of Jockey M Ganeesh, RUSH was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and was passed fit to race.

BIG BIT COIN (TM Wan) fly-jumped at the start.

SATELLITE GENIUS (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly and was a little slow to begin,

RUSH hesitated at the start and was slow to begin. The gelding showed no early pace.

At about the 1000M, HOLDING FAST (J Low) steadied when racing tight behind and on the inside of MATA MATA (S Thai Yang) which received some pressure from ARAGORN (App CT Lee). Shortly afterwards at about the 900M, SATELLITE GENIUS clipped the heels and checked off the heels of HOLDING FAST which shifted inwards. At a subsequently Inquiry, Jockey J Low pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding HOLDING FAST at approximately the 900M, he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear of SATELLITE GENIUS, causing that horse to clip the heels of HOLDING FAST and check off its heels. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of the case, Jockey J Low’s mitigating factors and his riding record. Jockey J

Low was suspended from riding in races for two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from Monday, 1st May 2017 and to expire on Sunday, 7th May 2017, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4.40 pm). Jockey J Low subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence which was granted by the Stipendiary Stewards.

BIG BIT COIN was baulked for a clear run in the home straight from the 350M to the 150M.

Approaching the 300M, BIG TSUNAMI (App T Krisna) and ROYAL EXPLORER (S Salee) both drifted outwards. Shortly afterwards, ARAGORN laid inwards and brushed BIG TSUNAMI onto OUR FRIENDLY DIVA (F Yap) which was steadied inwards. ARAGORN continued to lay inwards towards the finish and had to be straightened.

A post-race veterinary examination of SATELLITE GENIUS revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of RUSH, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. RUSH, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

The PNTC Racing Stewards on 26th April 2017 heard the above Appeal at the Penang Turf Club. Evidence was taken from Jockey J De Souza who was assisted by Ms Magdalene Tan May Ling at his request.

After considering submissions by Jockey J De Souza and the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards dismissed Jockey J De Souza’s Appeal against the stay.
However, his deposit was refunded.

The Appeal Hearing against the three-month suspension will be held at the earliest possible date.

RACE 1 (R512) CLASS 5 – 1100M, SATURDAY, 22ND APRIL 2017, 1ST DAY, PENANG APRIL MEETING 2017

The Stewards on 28th April 2017, Inquired into an incident with regards to the weighing out and weighing in of DUBLEO BEAUTY by Jockey S Sandana in the above race.

After considering all of the evidence and reviewing the video replays of both the weigh-out and the weigh-in, the Stewards decided to give Jockey S Sandana the benefit of the doubt and took no further action other than to warn Jockey S Sandana about his obligations with regards to the weighing out and weighing in of horses and his responsibility for his own gear.

RACE 7 (518) CLASS 5 – 1400M, 22ND APRIL 2017, SATURDAY, 1ST DAY, PENANG APRIL MEETING 2017

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on 30th April 2017, Jockey S Thai Yang, the rider of GHOST CITY, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(6) for failing to ride his mount to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey S Thai Yang’s guilty plea, his forthright evidence, mitigating factors and riding records. Jockey S Thai Yang was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from Monday, 1st May 2017 and to expire on Wednesday, 31st May 2017, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (11.50 am).

RACE 1 (R520), CLASS 5 – 1100M, 23RD APRIL 2017, SUNDAY, 2ND DAY, PENANG APRIL MEETING 2017

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on 30th April 2017, Jockey Lou Ho, the rider of IKTO, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

i. Shortly after the start, he failed to take advantage of an inside barrier draw and failed to maintain a mid-field position as per his instructions when it was reasonable to do so;

ii. He failed to make up ground on the inside from approximately the 800M to the 500M when there was an opportunity to do so;

iii. The Stewards also believed that on the home turn, his horse IKTO raced wider than was necessary and he steadied back to last position for no apparent reason.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey Lou Ho’s points of mitigation and his riding record. Jockey Lou Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months with immediate effect from Sunday, 30th April 2017 and to expire on Tuesday, 29th August 2017, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (11.10 am).
