Jockey R Nuqman (STORM TO FINISH) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding whether he had an opportunity to avoid the speed duel between himself and SILVER SAMURAI. In this regard, he explained that when SILVER SAMURAI moved alongside him, he attempted to restrain to obtain cover, however, commenced to race fiercely and pulled itself through on the inside of SILVER SAMURAI. He further explained that he was of the view that the least prejudicial option from that point would be to allow this horse to stride. The Panel noted his explanation.

13

GOOD STAR

(Z Khairil)

Jockey was examined by the Club Doctor who stood him down from his riding engagement for the remainder of the races today. *(See Report)

At the 900M, PLATINUM EMPEROR mistrode which resulted in this horse losing its action, becoming severely unbalanced and dislodging Jockey M Lerner. Thereafter, PLATINUM EMPEROR galloped loose and collided with GOOD STAR and VALOIS which caused both Jockeys to be dislodged.  As a consequence of this incident, DREAM ALLIANCE, ANTIPODEAN, GOLDEN PEGASUS, CHEVAL BLANC and LUCKY MAGIC were inconvenienced in the running.

An inquiry was convened and evidence was taken from Jockeys O Chavez, AL Da Silva, KA Bewer, R Nuqman, Clyde Leck and Z Khairil. In this regard, it was established, in particular from the testimony of Jockey M Lerner, who was specifically questioned whether Jockey M Zaki (RAISING SIXTY-ONE) had tightened him on the turn that, PLATINUM EMPEROR racing line was not compromised and RAISING SIXTY-ONE had not interfered with PLATINUM EMPEROR. Therefore, the Panel of Stewards could not attribute blame to any individual rider for this matter and deemed it to be a racing incident.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AL Da Silva, the rider of LUCKY MAGIC, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding LUCKY MAGIC between the 1100M and the 900M, he shifted in continually which resulted in initially DREAM ALLIANCE and VALOIS being tightened for galloping room and thereafter, VALOIS having to ease significantly.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey AL Da Silva’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record, the status of the race, the significance of the interference and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 22 September 2025 and to expire on 5 October 2025, both dates inclusive.  Additionally, he was also fined RM4,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by the Jockey M Lerner (PLATINUM HARVEST), the judge’s second placed horse against the judge’s first placed horse, FATE TO WIN (CK Khaw) on the grounds of interference between the 300M and the 200M.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board upheld the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered the extent of the interference and the margin at the finish and was satisfied that without the incident, PLATINUM HARVEST would have finished ahead of FATE TO WIN. The judge’s result was amended to read:

  1. PLATINUM HARVEST (M Lerner);

  2. FATE TO WIN (CK Khaw);

  3. SHOW HAND (B Pinheiro); and

In this regard, he explained that his horse was travelling well and ANTIPODEAN made a quick sweeping run that when ANTIPODEAN raced alongside him, he knew it was the long course, was well positioned and travelling well, therefore he did not feel the need to take his horse outside its comfort zone when that was the bend and the long straight was ahead. He further explained that in the straight, CAVALRY unfortunately did not produce the burst of speed he would have expected from its run in transit and only stayed on into third. His explanation was noted.

In this regard, he explained that it was his intention to allow his mount to stride freely upon jumping into a position where it was comfortable. However, approaching the 800M, his mount became severely unbalanced, which required him to gather his horse together prior to asking it to gain momentum again. He further explained that upon turning for home, he attempted to draw his whip in the right hand, however, he felt his mount became unbalanced and lugged. Consequently, he elected to draw his whip in the left hand and after feeling confident that he had balanced the gelding, he again switched his whip to the right hand, however upon doing so, his horse reacted to the release in pressure and ducked in sharply. 8

MOONGATE HERO

(Z Khairil)

Eased at the 800M.

Jockey O Chavez appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of PACIFIC POWER. In this regard, he further explained that it was his intention to lead in this race, however, after jumping only fairly and observing 3 horses competing for the lead, as in his last start, he was equally satisfied to obtain cover behind runners in a handy position. He further explained that after shifting in behind runners, his horse commenced to race fiercely, hang in and race on to heels. He stated that he was aware that there were 2 other runners on his inside, however, whilst attempting to correct PACIFIC POWER, the horse resented the correction and shifted in anyway. Thereafter, it was his view that despite PACIFIC POWER acquiring a good position behind the speed and settling somewhat in the running, the gelding again became unbalanced going through the 700M. In the straight, PACIFIC POWER commenced to hang in and shifted in away from the whip, which Jockey O Chavez described PACIFIC POWER’s performance as disappointing. His explanation was noted.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Bahauddin’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Jockey O Chavez appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of PACIFIC HERO. In this regard, he explained that his horse was an aggressive horse, which by nature, shows significant early pace and races to the lead. In this race, his PACIFIC HERO had shown early speed, however after being further engaged by YES MAN, took hold of the bit, resulting in it being unable to be restrained and entering an unintentional speed battle with YES MAN. His explanation was noted.

Jockey B Pinheiro appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of YES MAN. In this regard, he explained that he was of the view that with the pattern of racing today, his best opportunity of winning would be to lead. However, whilst attempting to do so, PACIFIC HERO had the same idea which resulted in YES MAN and PACIFIC HERO being positioned alongside each other and dueling for the lead.

When questioned regarding whether there was an opportunity for Jockey B Pinheiro to ease the pressure, he explained that he had attempted to do so, however, he felt his mount immediately resented this action. Therefore, he elected to allow his mount to stride as this was a 1020M race. By the top of the straight, he felt he was travelling better than PACIFIC HERO and attempted to use any advantage he gained to skip away from the field. However in the concluding stages, the early exertions of YES MAN tolled, and he was passed by another runner.  His explanation was noted.
