Jockey Z Khairil explained that on at least 2 occasions in the straight, he committed to run only to have another horse to that racing line. This resulted in him being unable to fully test DIAZ for the majority of the straight. The Panel noted his explanation.

Jockey O Chavez appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his tactics on SILVER SAMURAI. In this regard, he explained that he did not intend to set such a fast pace, however, after jumping better than STORM TO FINISH, he attempted to obtain the lead outright. However, STORM TO FINISH kicked up on his inside and as he already committed his horse forward, he was unable to restrain his mount without causing more severe prejudice.

Jockey R Nuqman (STORM TO FINISH) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding whether he had an opportunity to avoid the speed duel between himself and SILVER SAMURAI. In this regard, he explained that when SILVER SAMURAI moved alongside him, he attempted to restrain to obtain cover, however, commenced to race fiercely and pulled itself through on the inside of SILVER SAMURAI. He further explained that he was of the view that the least prejudicial option from that point would be to allow this horse to stride. The Panel noted his explanation.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey CK Khaw, the rider of STRONG DRAGON, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding STRONG DRAGON, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to STAR NORTH at the 250M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey CK Khaw’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Malaysian race day, to be deferred, with effect from 29 September 2025 and to expire on 4 October 2025, both dates inclusive.  In lieu of one (1) Malaysian race day, he was also fined RM2,000/-. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The report dated 11 September 2025 (V25/138) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 35 coded urine and 37 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 6 September 2025, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.


JOCKEY URINE SAMPLES:

The report dated 11 September 2025 (V25/139) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 3 coded urine samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 6 September 2025,  for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected except for sample coded J-5165 which indicates the presence of “Methamphetamine.”

Upon decoding, it was established that the abovementioned sample belonged to App M Akmazani. On 11 September 2025, App M Akmazani and his Employing Trainer, J Tan, were advised with regards to the contents of this report. App M Akmazani was stood down from riding in trackwork and races with immediate effect. An Inquiry into this matter will be held at a date to be fixed.
