STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding

(Course A – True Position)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr James Yu.

RACE 1 (R1235) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GLORIA MARIS (S Ruzaini) bounded in the air at the start, losing ground. When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that the mare had been fractious in proceeding to the start attempting to buck, and after fly-jumping, he believed that GLORIA MARIS had again attempted to buck. In the straight, although making some ground, he felt that the mare was resentful of racing, throwing its head and racing erratically. In light of this, Trainer SY Lim was advised that GLORIA MARIS will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the starting stall tests) before being declared to race again.

At the 625M, ANDRE (App WW Cheah) eased off the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Muniandy).

MACHUNG STAR (KC Wong) laid inwards over the final 200M.

RACE 2 (R1236) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

D’GREAT SONG (KC Wong) hung inwards on jumping, bumping FIGHTING WARRIOR (J Low).

BIG SUPER (S Anandan) and L’KEN (App R Nuqman) bumped at the start.

In the early stages, MAJOR GREEN (S Muniandy) raced wide. Jockey S Muniandy was questioned as to why he sat three (3) deep on the pace. He stated that he had been instructed to lead but had been unable to do so, and was reluctant to restrain MAJOR GREEN to attempt to take cover. In assessing his riding, the Stewards advised Jockey S Muniandy that in their opinion, he had erred in persisting in his attempt to lead.

IPOH DASH (C Goon) lost ground when steadying on the inside of BORN A FIGHTER (HS Gill) passing the 600M. When questioned, Jockey C Goon advised that IPOH DASH had a history of racing reluctantly but after jumping well, he had settled the gelding but it had been uncomfortable racing on the inside rail at the first turn, and it checked on its own accord near the 600M. He had thus recommended that the gelding be raced in head-gear in future.

L’KEN was blocked when attempting a run on the inside of BIG SUPER near the 300M.

FIGHTING WARRIOR laid outwards over the final stages.

Jockey KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT SONG, reported that the saddle on his horse slipped backwards at the 1000M.

NOVA FALCON raced fiercely in the early stages.

Near the 1600M, VAIN TYCOON (App CK Khaw) which was pulling hard, shifted out quickly causing OUT OF NOWHERE to be restrained. App CK Khaw, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, R Lines, was advised that a repetition of this form of riding would lead to suspension.

Passing the 900M, PREMIUM STARS (B Pinheiro) which was racing fiercely, shifted out causing NOVA FALCON to be restrained.

SHOWBOY raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 400M, EL TORDILLO (S Anandan) which was making ground quickly, had to be steadied when D’GREAT CONQUEROR (J De Souza) rolled out.  AFFLECK rolled out at the 250M and brushed TANNHAUSER. TANNHAUSER (App CK Khaw) and SHOWBOY then bumped on several occasions over the final 200M.

When questioned, Jockey S Anandan reported that EL TORDILLO was unable to match the early pace given the rising class and when starting to make ground in the straight, had been impeded for a clear run.

SATELLITE GENIUS (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly, striking the hind quarters of IMMORTAL LEGACY (App M Lukman), losing ground.

SMIDDY BYRNE (KC Wong) which was sitting back when the start was effected, lost ground. SMIDDY BYRNE was then obliged to race wide throughout.

Passing the 1250M, SATELLITE GENIUS shifted in, causing SUPER EIGHT (O Chavez) to be steadied.

Near the 350M, SUPER EIGHT stumbled for no apparent reason. Jockey O Chavez explained that SUPER EIGHT was reluctant throughout the race, and was inclined to shy from the kick back.

When questioned, Trainer WC Lim (IMMORTAL LEGACY) advised that after studying the race, he believed IMMORTAL LEGACY could race in a prominent position although having drawn the outside barrier. He had instructed App M Lukman to ride for pace but was surprised that he had led so easily. Whilst accepting that App M Lukman had ridden IMMORTAL LEGACY diligently to secure the lead, the Stewards suggested to Trainer WC Lim that he educate App M Lukman with regards to the pace and tempo he applies in races.

Due to the delay, NOVA DASHING (KC Wong) and BLUE EYED BOY (K Eirwan) missed the start by a considerable margin.

SMOOTHLY (S Ruzaini) raced wide throughout.

GREENSTONE (J Low) veered outwards from the 750M, crashing through the outside running rail at the 575M, dislodging its rider. GREENSTONE was determined to have expired. Near the 1000M, COMMODORE LINCOLN struck the heels of EXCALIBUR (R Shafiq) and blundered, dislodging Jockey B Pinheiro. GOLD POWER (J Low) and NORMAN which were following, were inconvenienced. Jockey B Pinheiro was subsequently taken to hospital for further observation. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

COMMODORE LINCOLN (B Pinheiro) and ELF’S DREAM (J De Souza) both raced wide in the middle stages.

When leading, SEGAR THE BEST (App R Nuqman) threw its head and raced fiercely.

The Stewards inquired into Jockey R Shafiq’s riding of EXCALIBUR, in particular his whip use in the straight. Trainer S Ellis advised that when EXCALIBUR ran second in mid-July, Jockey R Shafiq had advised him that the gelding was inclined to resent being struck with the whip, as such he had instructed at subsequent starts (including this one), that the riders use the whip sparingly on EXCALIBUR.

In accepting this, the Stewards advised Trainer S Ellis and Jockey R Shafiq that there was an expectancy that a horse to be ridden in a consistent manner and made a notation that EXCALIBUR would be ridden in future with a moderate whip use.

STAR INVINCIBLE (Y Aify) raced wide in the middle stages.

D’GREAT TIMING (J Low) threw its head shortly after the start. When questioned, Jockey J Low said that it had been his intention, after being instructed to ride the gelding in a rearward position, from a very wide barrier, he had steadied D’GREAT TIMING in an endeavour to come across behind the field, however, the gelding had overreacted and threw its head.

Near the 275M, MOZART ECLIPSE (O Chavez) shifted out off the heels of CALVADOS (KC Wong) and in doing so, made contact with MAYBE (J De Souza). MOZART ECLIPSE was then inclined to lay out from the 175M to the 50M. Jockey O Chavez was reprimanded for shifting out at this stage. Jockey KC Wong was warned that he must keep his mount straight in future.

When questioned, Jockey KC Wong, the rider of CALVADOS, stated that the gelding had pulled hard throughout and he had been left sitting on the outside of the leader, THAI BAHT (S Anandan) and although he had wished to be half-a-length behind THAI BAHT from the 750M, he had been exposed when racing in front of that gelding. Jockey KC Wong was advised that he must make a more positive effort to ride diligently in future.

SACRED SURFER (App M Akmazani) brushed the running rail near the 1050M.

D’GREAT VULTURE (App L De Souza) raced wide from the 1000M until straightening.

Passing the 300M, HIGH COUNCIL shifted in abruptly, inconveniencing ARROGATE ACHIEVER. App A Suriya (HIGH COUNCIL) was warned that he must straighten his mount when they shift.

OUT OF NOWHERE (Y Aify) veered inwards over the final 50M.

Near the 125M, SACRED SURFER had to be checked on the inside of DAZZLING SPEED (J Low), and when taken outwards, inconvenienced BAHAR.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider of DAZZLING SPEED, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that when he rode DAZZLING SPEED, he permitted his mount to shift inwards in the final 125M causing SACRED SURFER to be restrained.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 16 September 2019 and to expire on 22 September 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:35pm).

When questioned, Jockey R Shafiq stated that CALL IT had shorten stride at the first turn and then in the straight, dropped his head. He subsequent eased the gelding down.  Trainer S Dunderdale advised that he could offer no explanation other than he considered the gelding might require further distance as it had been training well but highlighted that CALL IT was having its first start in KL. CALL IT which was beaten 20 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

BALBOA (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

In the middle stages, DEE MAJULAH (J De Souza) was forced to race wide.

MR WOLFF (Y Aify) was inclined to hang inwards from the 250M, crowding KING COBRA (AK Lim) near the 75M.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of DEE MAJULAH, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of DEE MAJULAH revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 4 (R1109) CLASS 5 (A)– 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GHOST BAY (K Eirwan) had to be resaddled at the start when it was ascertained that its girth was too long. Trainer BT Lim was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 35(1) for negligent in saddling GHOST BAY.

AUDACIOUS (B Pinheiro) veered inwards at the start, crowding SATELLITE GOLDEN (S Ruzaini) which in turn contacted D’GREAT ERA (J De Souza) tightening TAKE A BOW (Y Aify) and MAJOR GREEN (S Anandan).

App L De Souza, the rider of I AM MIDAS, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. of A post-race veterinary examination of I AM MIDAS revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockeys J De Souza and KC Wong, the riders of D’GREAT ERA and BORN A FIGHTER respectively, were questioned as to why they had sat approximately five (5) lengths behind the leading division mid-race.

Jockey J De Souza advised that at no stage was D’GREAT ERA striding well and that although wishing to be running midfield, had found himself further back with the mare fading badly. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT ERA revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey KC Wong, when questioned, advised that he had wished to be running midfield but had to push BORN A FIGHTER from shortly after the start with the gelding being unable to match what he considered was a fast early pace.

Whilst accepting these explanations, the Stewards reminded Jockeys J De Souza and KC Wong that they were expected to ensure their mounts were ridden in a positive manner at all stages.

Jockey K Eirwan (GHOST BAY) was questioned as to why he had taken so long to put GHOST BAY under pressure in the straight. He advised that he had limited race riding exposure recently, and believed he had exerted effort on GHOST BAY on straightening.

RACE 5 (R1110) CLASS 4 (A)– 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

TWENTYSIXTWELVE (App CK Khaw) jumped with its head in the air, losing ground.

RACE 6 (R1111) COMBINED CLASS 1 & 2 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

WHIRLWIND was slow to begin. When questioned regarding this, Jockey B Pinheiro stated that in its previous start, WHIRLWIND had commenced slowly and he had pushed the gelding vigorously. WHIRLWIND had then commenced to pull very hard and he had difficulty controlling the gelding. As such, he had decided to allow WHIRLWIND to jump at its own accord without pushing it in order to have the gelding settle into stride.

Between the 1000M and the 900M, TANNHAUSER (App CK Khaw) and SHOWBOY (S Ruzaini) bumped on several occasions.

When blocked near the 200M, BUENOS AIRES (KC Wong) shifted out, bumping the hind-quarters of TANNHAUSER. Shortly after this incident, SHOWBOY shifted in causing TANNHAUSER to be restrained. On inquiry, it was established that although SHOWBOY had shifted in at this stage, this incident was compounded by the bump to TANNHAUSER by BUENOS AIRES. However, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey S Ruzaini relating to his interference in this incident.

Jockey B Pinheiro (WHIRLWIND) dropped his whip at the 250M. He was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

A post-race veterinary examination of SEBAS revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that HIP HIP HOORAY (S Anandan) returned with a laceration over the off hind heel bulb. The gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 4 (R1071) CLASS 4 (A) – 1800M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 1 September 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of Jockey S Salee (THAI BAHT). Further evidence was taken from Jockey S Salee and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of THAI BAHT respectively.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of THAI BAHT, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards whilst riding THAI BAHT in the straight in the above race. The particulars of the charge were that his riding of THAI BAHT in the straight with the whip failed to satisfy the Stewards for the particular reason that several whip actions failed to make contact.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Salee’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Jockey S Salee was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 2 September 2019 and to expire on 1 October 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (12pm).

RACE 8 (R1075) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 27 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the whip use of Jockey S Anandan, the rider of E SUPREME.

After considering the evidence tendered, Jockey S Anandan was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(ii) for continuing to use his whip when E SUPREME was considerably out of contention.

RACE 1 (R1068) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 27 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, continued the inquiry into the apparent improved performance of MUSANG KING (AK Lim) in the above race. Evidence was taken from Trainer SY Lim, the trainer of MUSANG KING.

Trainer SY Lim advised that he had instructed that MUSANG KING be ridden in both races to be handy. At its previous start, the gelding had been tightened slightly at the start and was unable to take up a prominent position. He was of the opinion that this race was considerably weaker and that there appeared to be little pace in the race. Further that MUSANG KING was advantaged by having Jockey AK Lim ride as opposed to App WK Lee. He had also freshened the gelding in his work. Their explanations were noted.

RACE 6 (R836) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 6 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

Jockey SU Lim (SUPER MARIO) who lodged an appeal against his suspension of one (1) month under MRA Rule 44(10), applied to withdraw his appeal. After consideration, his application was acceded to and his deposit was forfeited. His suspension commenced on 26 August 2019 and to expire on 25 September 2019, both dates inclusive.

SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Course B

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon), Dr James Yu & Dr Edwards Samuel.

RACE 1 (R1068) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

RED SAPPHIRE (App L De Souza) and GLORY KID (App A Suriya) were both slow into stride.

NASI LEMAK (S Salee) was slow to begin.

TALISMAN (Y Aify) was obliged to race wide from the 1000M.

In the early stages, EMPEROR WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) raced fiercely.

Near the 500M, POLO GAGA (B Pinheiro) commenced to lay out, bumping MUSANG KING (AK Lim) near the 350M. POLO GAGA continued to shift outwards brushing MUSANG KING. Jockey B Pinheiro was warned that he must straighten his mount when they shift inwards in future.

RED SAPPPHIRE was impeded when attempting a marginal run on the inside of READY TO STRIKE (KC Wong) at the 250M and then bumped with READY TO STRIKE at the 50M.

A post-race veterinary examination of ELITE GUSTAVO (App CK Khaw) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned, Jockey S Salee stated that NASI LEMAK was sitting back on the stalls and he appealed to the Starter. NASI LEMAK had then laid outwards for several strides after jumping. NASI LEMAK will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

An inquiry into the improved performance of MUSANG KING (AK Lim) will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 2 (R1069) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

Acting on veterinary advice that YES BOSSY (Y Aify) had sustained multiple injuries to its both hind legs, the gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

After jumping awkwardly, UNION JAC (HS Gill) raced wide in the early stages.

ELF’S DREAM (J De Souza) jumped with its head in the air and was then tightened, and after being blocked in the straight, was carried wide when CHAMPION FACE (App CK Khaw) shifted out. App CK Khaw was warned that he must straighten more quickly in future.

At the 800M, CHAMPION FACE rolled in causing D’GREAT WALL (AK Lim) to be steadied.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of ELF’S DREAM, stated that he had been forced to race further back than he wished after jumping awkwardly and crowded at the start. He also explained that although in a rearward position on straightening, he was impeded when carried wide in the straight.

SOON SEEKER was slow into stride.

In the early stages, SMART MASTER (SU Lim) was obliged to race wide.

SCORPION KING (AK Lim) raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 500M, BORN A FIGHTER steadied when GREENSTONE (J Low) which had clipped the heels of SEGAR THE BEST, rolled in

BORN A FIGHTER was blocked for a clear run from the 450M to the 300M, and again over the final 75M.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of ARLO, Jockey S Ruzaini advised that the gelding had raced uncompetitively from the beginning, and was off the bit early in the race. He also stated that over the final 250M, ARLO had commenced to shorten stride.

When questioned, Trainer C Leck stated that ARLO had considerable history of leg problems having had many starts, and he believed that at its previous winning start, the gelding had been advantaged by the “yielding” state of track, and that it had not performed well on “good” surface. The Stewards informed him to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding during the week. A post-race veterinary examination of ARLO revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of SONG KID (App CK Khaw) revealed no significant finding.

When questioned as the reason I AM THE BOSS (App CK Khaw) had led as opposed to its previous two (2) starts, Trainer S Siva stated that I AM THE BOSS had been trapped wide on both of those occasions. He advised that today, he instructed that I AM THE  BOSS be ridden in handy position, however, App CK Khaw advised that had been left in front when nothing else wished to lead. The Stewards, on 6 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of GHOST SPIRIT. Evidence was taken from Jockey HS Gill and Trainer BT Lim, the rider and trainer of GHOST SPIRIT respectively.

Jockey HS Gill advised that GHOST SPIRIT had thrown its head down as the start was effected and had lost ground. Further, that the gelding was inclined to shy away from runners and he had again found himself at the rear. Trainer BT Lim stated that GHOST SPIRIT was a rather limited individual and although leading at its past two (2) starts had faded, he had thus considered it better to allow GHOST SPIRIT to race where it was comfortable.

He confirmed that GHOST SPIRIT was a weak horse which was very wary of other runners and as such he had made numerous gear changes. It was his intention to recommend to the owners that GHOST SPIRIT be given the opportunity to race in a less competitive environment.

He denied that he was looking or searching for anything or person in particular.

In accepting his explanation, the Stewards warned Jockey SU Lim that he must concentrate on riding his race and give no ground for suspicion as to wrongdoing.

The Stewards, on 6 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into the riding of STREET OF LONDON in the early part of the straight. Evidence was taken from Jockey Y Aify and Trainer L Moy, the rider and trainer of STREET OF LONDON respectively.

Jockey Y Aify advised that STREET OF LONDON had no early pace and he had pushed the gelding on straightening. He stated that he had slapped and shown the gelding the whip but had been crossed by another runner. STREET OF LONDON was then inclined to lay in.

Trainer L Moy stated that STREET OF LONDON as a 10-year-old had health issues, that the 1200M of the race was too short but he was unable to start STREET OF LONDON after its preferred distance of 1600M.

Jockey Y Aify was advised that he must ride all mounts, so as to leave no doubt as to his purpose in every race.

RACE 2 (R969) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 4 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 6 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of RAMZES. Evidence was taken from Jockey HS Gill and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of RAMZES respectively.

Trainer SY Lim stated that this was RAMZES’ first run for him and had not raced for more than 9 months and the 1600M was a hard task from the break.

Whilst accepting the explanations, the Stewards instructed that RAMZES will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

App WK Lee, the rider of CHAR SIEW, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. In the early stages after the start, he restrained CHAR SIEW and sat in a rearward position causing him to lose ground at the start;
  2. He failed to improve his position when he had an opportunity to do so between the 500M and the 425M; and
  3. He effectively restrained CHAR SIEW from near the 425M turning into the straight until the 350M, thereby letting the race progress when he was restraining.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App WK Lee’s poor riding record and his submissions on penalty. App WK Lee was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 7 August 2019 and to expire on 6 November 2019, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with another suspension imposed under MRA Rule 44(10) on 6 August 2019. The Stewards, on 6 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of PALTROW. Evidence was taken from App WK Lee, the rider of PALTROW, in the presence of his employing Trainer, Trainer SY Lim, and Trainer S Dunderdale, the Trainer of PALTROW.

App WK Lee, the rider of PALTROW, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He failed to improve his position between the 550M and the 400M;
  2. He failed to take a run which presented itself at about the 150M mark between MR WOLFF (B Pinheiro) on his outside and ZHUHAI (SU Lim) on his inside, eventually restraining and taking PALTROW to the outside of MR WOLFF after passing the 100M mark, thereby losing ground on PALTROW.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App WK Lee’s poor riding record and his submissions on penalty. App WK Lee was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months with effect 7 August 2019 and to expire on 6 February 2020, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with another suspension imposed under MRA Rule 44(10) on 6 August 2019. Further, he was fined RM30,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (5pm).

App WK Lee subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal against the severity of the penalty related to the fine imposed. The Appeal will be held at a date to be fixed.

Both riders Jockey O Chavez (CONFEAT) and Jockey J De Souza (LARSON) were reweighed and this necessitated a delay of 10 minutes.

On Inquiry, the Stewards were satisfied that the shared Valet of Jockeys O Chavez and J De Souza had inadvertently placed the incorrect saddle cloth numbers with their saddles.

Valet Ismail Bin Salleh (V.11) pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he as a licensed Valet acting on behalf of Jockeys O Chavez and J De Souza in this race, mistakenly add the wrong saddle cloth numbers for CONFEAT and LARSON respectively.

STATE OF TRACK: Good

[Course A (+4M) – Running rails position 4M from the 1800M to the 425M (short course) & to the 625M (long course) & true position in the straight.]

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R959) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

After beginning awkwardly, GREENSTONE (J Low) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Shortly after the start, ELITE ROCKET (HS Gill) was crowded for room.

Approaching the 1000M, SHARON’S STAR (KC Wong) had to be steadied when striding onto the heels of horses in front.

Near the 850M, SATELLITE GENIUS (S Ruzaini) steadied when crossed by TILSWORTH MALI (App WK Lee). Jockey S Ruzaini, when questioned as to his riding in the straight, stated that he had been held tight between TILSWORTH MALI on his inside and PHANTASOS on his outside, eventually bumping with PHANTASOS when tightened for room. Whilst accepting this, the Stewards reminded him of his obligation to ride all his mounts fully to the end of the race in future.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of VICTORY CAT, reported that his horse was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of VICTORY CAT revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 2 (R960) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

After being slow to begin, GHOST BAY (App R Nuqman) raced extremely wide throughout.

ELEGANT DANCER (KC Wong) raced fiercely in the early stages.

Approaching the 850M, KING’S ORDER (S Ruzaini) which was pulling fiercely, shifted out, bumping the hind-quarters of AIR POWER (App CK Khaw).

Passing the 300M, SIX EMPIRE (App WK Lee) rolled out causing SOON SEEKER (Y Aify) to be steadied. App WK Lee was reprimanded for failing to keep his mount straight.

When struck with the whip, GHOST BAY strode onto the heels of AIR POWER near the 25M, and had to be restrained inwards. After considering evidence from App R Nuqman, the rider of GHOST BAY, and his employing Trainer, Trainer BT Lim who is also the Trainer of GHOST BAY, the Stewards instructed that App R Nuqman to perform ten (10) satisfactory Barrier Trials before being permitted to ride in races again.

KING’S ORDER which was beaten 20 ¼ lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of D’GREAT SWIFT, and Jockey S Anandan, the rider of BEIJING STAR, both reported that their horses were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of D’GREAT SWIFT and BEIJING STAR revealed no significant finding.

Post-race veterinary examinations of SOON SEEKER and ELEGANT DANCER revealed that both geldings returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Before straightening, the breast-plate on EXCALIBUR (S Ruzaini) became undone on the near side. Trainer S Ellis was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 35(1) for presenting EXCALIBUR with a breast-plate which came undone. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of EXCALIBUR, was also fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 44(11) for failing to report to the Stewards after the race that his breast-plate had become undone.

Over the final 150M, GRAND SHOW (App S Saddam) was allowed to shift in and near the 50M, caused MR MIURA (SU Lim) to be restrained. After taking evidence from App S Saddam, the rider of GRAND SHOW, in the presence of Trainer S Siva, his employing Trainer’s representative, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

Jockey Y Aify, the rider of LADY LIBERTY, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of LADY LIBERTY revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 4 (R962) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)
