When questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of TERMS OF REFERENCE, Trainer S Hamilton advised that she had substituted the visor for the customary blinkers which the gelding had used.  Her instructions to the rider were that from an inside barrier, to attempt to go forward. She was surprised TERMS OF REFERENCE was able to lead so easily and believed the change in equipment was the sole reason as it had worked particularly well during the week in the visor. She further stated that in future, she would instruct TERMS OF REFERENCE to be ridden in a lead or forward manner.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 12 (R065) CLASS 5a – 1700M (E sc), SUNDAY, 15 JANUARY 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2023

 The Stewards, on Tuesday, 17 January 2023 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into App S Shazmin’s riding of MOMENT OF JUSTICE in the above race.

After taking evidence from App S Shazmin, the rider of MOMENT OF JUSTICE, in the presence of Trainer Tan Eng Peow, acting on behalf of Trainer MP Thwaites, App S Shazmin was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that in the opinion of the Stewards, his riding lacked vigour in the straight, and was below the level of vigour and inconsistent with, his normal riding style.

The Stewards took into consideration App S Shazmin’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 17 January 2023 and to expire on 16 February 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.


INQUIRY INTO A REPORT RELATING TO A POST-RACE URINE SAMPLE CODED “32429” TAKEN FROM THE HORSE “DOCTOR GINGER” WHICH FINISHED FIRST IN RACE 9 ON SATURDAY, 26 NOVEMBER 2022 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2022

The Stewards concluded the above inquiry on Tuesday, 17 January 2023 at the Selangor Turf Club, and took evidence from SY Lim, the Trainer of DOCTOR GINGER. Evidence was tendered that the confiscated topical lotion contained no prohibited substance.

Trainer SY Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) for presenting DOCTOR GINGER to race in Race 9 on 26 November 2022, and the post-race urine sample having been found to contain the prohibited substance “diclofenac”.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the type of drug, the nature of the drug involved, Trainer SY Lim’s guilty plea, his mitigating factors and previous record. Under the provisions of MRA Rule 134(7), Trainer SY Lim was fined RM12,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.


REPORT OF ANALYSIS OF CLEARING SAMPLE

A Clearing Sample taken from DOCTOR GINGER, which was received on 1 January 2023 by USAINS BIOMICS [report dated 12 January 2023 (CLS/V22/006)], was analyzed and reported to be negative to prohibited substances and as such, the Stewards cleared DOCTOR GINGER to resume racing under the provisions of MRA Rule 134(12).


REPORT OF ANALYSIS OF CLEARING SAMPLE

A Clearing Sample taken from NICATOR, which was received on 1 January 2023 by USAINS BIOMICS [report dated 13 January 2023 (CLS/V22/007)], was analyzed and reported to be negative to prohibited substances and as such, the Stewards cleared NICATOR to resume racing under the provisions of MRA Rule 134(12).

The report dated 6 January 2023 (V22/202) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 29 coded urine and 31 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 1 January 2023, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
