STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 8 JULY 2018

 STATE OF TRACK: Good

 Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R843)         CLASS 5 – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

The Stewards ordered a veterinary examination to be carried out on BULL AND BEAR (App CK Khaw) on the morning of the race. BULL AND BEAR had finished last of 13, beaten 17 lengths, on its previous start and had subsequently been scratched from two engagements due to injuries on its off fore. No abnormalities were detected at the time of examination by the Chief Veterinary Surgeon.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (J De Souza) was slow to find its stride.

NOVA GENERAL (J Low) over-raced without cover in the early stages and raced wide in the middle stages.

Approaching the 200M, GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim) was shifted outwards to avoid the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (O Chavez). Thereafter, GALLOPY SWIFT laid inwards under pressure in the closing strides causing MONTE CARLO (App KC Wong) to be checked in order to avoid his heels. As a result of this incident, the Stewards reprimanded App AK Lim and warned him to make greater effort to keep his mounts straight under similar circumstances in future.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of GOLDHILL PRINCESS, reported that the mare was slow to find her stride and that he was unable to obtain a forward position as a consequence. He further reported that GOLDHILL PRINCESS produced a disappointing response to pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDHILL PRINCESS revealed no significant finding.

RACE 1 (R641) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

FRENCH VINTAGE (S Ruzaini) slipped backwards as the gate opened, became unbalanced and jumped awkwardly outwards. When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that this incident had prevented him from obtaining a forward position and therefore affected the performance of FRENCH VINTAGE.

SATELLITE GENIUS (App AK Lim) was slow to find its stride.

FLYING NEKO (S Anandan) jumped outwards and crowded MAGIC RANGER (HS Gill) on the inside of SOKOR GEDEBE (App CK Khaw).

In the middle stages, FRENCH VINTAGE and SATELLITE GENIUS were both forced to race wide in order to make progress.

At about the 100M, D’GREAT LEGION (App L De Souza) laid outwards briefly under pressure causing PERCIUS (Y Aify) to be taken slightly outwards.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of ONCE A THIEF (App S Uzair), Trainer L Moy stated that he attributed the improvement of ONCE A THIEF’s performance to the removal of Blinkers on this occasion. He stated that App S Uzair had felt that the gelding was uncomfortable with the gear in his previous start. His explanation was noted.

RACE 2 (R642) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” prior to the running of this race.

App AM Aizat, the rider of ELEGANT DANCER, reported after the race that his saddle slipped backwards from about the 600M.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of HERECOMESMYMONEY (SU Lim), Trainer C Leck reported that HERECOMESMYMONEY is an inconsistent, erratic mare and may have run badly last time due to racing away from her home-base as she is a poor traveller. He further added that the overnight rain would have been in HERECOMESMYMONEY’s favour as she prefers some ease in the going. His explanation was noted.

At about the 250M, OPTIMUS was disappointed for a run on the heels of JUBILATION (S Ruzaini) and was thereafter switched outwards to obtain clear running.

Between the 250M and the 150M, D’GREAT RICH (App AM Aizat) was disappointed for a run on the heels of JUBILATION and WHAT IFF (S Anandan), and was only able to eventually obtain clear running inside the 100M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer W Lim and Jockey SU Lim regarding the tactics that were employed on NOVA WARRIOR. Trainer W Lim stated that it was his intention for the rider to obtain cover on NOVA WARRIOR but due to the slow early pace, Jockey SU Lim decided to go to the front. Jockey SU Lim added that NOVA WARRIOR became somewhat excitable when being attended in the barrier and was difficult to control in the early stages.

Trainer W Lim explained that in future races, he would ask the rider of NOVA WARRIOR to seek cover but allow them flexibility to take the lead if necessary, noting that the horse had previously been successful under forward tactics in Singapore.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 13 MAY 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 4), upgraded to “Good” after Race 4.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward)

RACE 1 (R611) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

RAMZES (F Yap) was slowly into stride and was outpaced in the early stages, and was never competitive. A post-race veterinary examination of RAMZES revealed no significant finding.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of GOOD VIBRATIONS, reported that the gelding stumbled shortly after the start.

ASHQAR (L Sofhan) raced ungenerously and was observed to carry its head awkwardly from about the 400M.

LONESOME ME (SU Lim) laid outwards under pressure from the 200M and bumped ROCK AND STONE after the line.

CHAMPAGNE ROSE (App CK Khaw) was disappointed for a run on the heels of ROCK AND STONE (App J Daniel) at about the 100M and was shifted inwards to obtain clear running.

RACE 2 (R612) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim) jumped inwards and bumped UNION JAC (HS Gill).

NOVA RANGER (S Ruzaini) jumped inwards and crowded JANGO (S Anandan) on the outside of VRAAD (App WK Lee) which jumped slightly outwards.

LIKA TIGER (J Low) was slow to find its stride.

METEOR GARDEN (A Aucharuz) laid outwards in the last strides and brushed with GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim).

When questioned, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of UNION JAC, stated that his instructions were to obtain a forward position from his outside barrier, however, he was unable to move across towards the inside as no appropriate gap presented itself. Thereafter he was caught wide in the middle stages and UNION JAC produced little response to pressure from the 600M. Jockey HS Gill stated that in his opinion, the gelding does not race well when coming under pressure at an early stage. He added that UNION JAC displayed a tendency to lay outwards throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination of UNION JAC revealed no significant finding. The gelding was impounded.

RACE 3 (R613) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer BT Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the removal of visor from ELITE GOLD (Y Aify) within the prescribed time.

Jockey F Yap, the rider of D’GREAT WORLD, reported that his gelding stumbled on jumping. The Stewards observed that D’GREAT WORLD sat back as the gates opened.

LINING TOGETHER (A Aucharuz) jumped awkwardly outwards and continued to hang outwards in the first few strides, causing him to bump HAPPY START (L Sofhan).

Shortly after the start, CAPTAIN CLASSIQUE (M Zairi) commenced to shift inwards despite the rider’s efforts and bumped ROYAL ACE (App L De Souza) inwards which caused DING LIK (I Saifudin) to be crowded between ROYAL ACE and D’GREAT WORLD. As a result, DING LIK lost its position and was forced to check. Thereafter DING LIK commenced to over-race and laid outwards approaching the 1000M.

At about the 1000M, HAPPY START was forced to check to avoid the heels of LINING TOGETHER and BIG BUS (J Low) was forced to ease to avoid the heels of HAPPY START. As a result of this incident, Jockey A Aucharuz was warned to show greater awareness of runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

KING ROULETTE (SS Vanan) laid outwards at about the 400M, raced wide in the straight and finished wide out. The gelding was distanced and will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

LINING TOGETHER shifted abruptly outwards at about the 100M, and had to be corrected and eased.

BIG BUS raced greenly throughout the race.

RACE 5 (R615) METRO A – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer F Maynard was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 105(2) for requesting a change of rider when one was already declared on COMMANDO ECLIPSE. He explained that Jockey Y Aify had been declared in error, and that he had intended to declare Apprentice AM Aizat. The Stewards accepted that the mistake was due to a clerical error and therefore authorized the change at 4.55pm on Tuesday, 8th May 2018. In determining the level of the penalty the Stewards noted that this was Trainer Maynard’s second breach of this particular rule in the last three months. COMMANDO ECLIPSE was a course scratching as it had a bruised back and will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Trainer S Dunderdale was fined RM1000/- under MRA Regulation 20.3.2 as read with MRA Regulation 20.6 for failing to ensure the vaccination status of PALTROW (S Sandana) for Japanese B Encephalitis was current. PALTROW was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:20pm.

GOT LUCK (SU Lim) jumped inwards, causing SATELLITE MAN (App AK Lim) and NOBLE LIAISON (HS Gill) to be taken inwards. NOBLE LIAISON lost its early position as a result.

Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of LISTEN, reported that shortly after the jump, he received pressure from NOBLE LIAISON on his outside causing him to shift inwards and bump the hindquarters of D’BUFFALO MAN (I Saifudin) which was turned outwards as a consequence. LISTEN was then badly crowded between NOBLE LIAISON and D’BUFFALO MAN causing Jockey Z Khairil to lose his irons. Thereafter LISTEN was positioned well-back in the field before making late progress.

Approaching the 500M, D’GREAT EFFORT (HK Cheng) was eased away from the heels of AUD DOLLAR (M Ganeesh) which threatened to roll in.

At about the 500M, GOT LUCK negotiated the bend with difficulty and had to be eased to avoid the heels of D’BUFFALO MAN.

Approaching the 400M, D’BUFFALO MAN was checked to avoid the heels of TIDAL WAVE (J De Souza). LISTEN was then shifted inwards to obtain clear running on the inside of D’BUFFALO MAN.

GOT LUCK which was beaten 25 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards observed that at about the 400M, App S Saddam, the rider of GLORY KID, got his whip entangled with his reins and took some time to free it.

Jockeys Y Aify and S Ruzaini, the riders of COLD WAR and FASTLANE respectively, reported that their horses raced greenly throughout the race.

RACE 8 (R618) SAFAR GEMILANG CUP – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

D’GREAT LEGEND (HK Cheng) jumped outwards and bumped D’GREAT TIMING (A Aucharuz) which was crowded on the inside of TARZAN (Y Aify). At the same time, FIREPUBLICGAME (App WK Lee) jumped inwards and bumped MULTIBLUE EAGLE (App P Mogun) twice causing that horse to be carried inwards, crowding GASSUR (S Ruzaini) and TARZAN on his inside. RACE 10 (R620) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

LIM’S BATTLE (HS Gill) was slow to begin.

I’M COMING BABY (App A Suriya) was slow to find its stride.

From the 800M, D’GREAT BLESS (App KC Wong) persistently laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

Approaching the 400M, GOD HELPS ME shifted slightly inwards causing CRAZY CLUB (J Low) to be eased and switched outwards in order to avoid his heels.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT BLESS, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer BT Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 400M, he allowed his horse to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of WINNING TANGO (M Ganeesh), causing that horse to be taken inwards when not clear of GOD HELPS ME (A Aucharuz) which was shifted inwards and bumped MAZANDARAN (Z Khairil).

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App KC Wong’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App KC Wong’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 21 May 2018 and to expire on 2 June 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:25pm).

When questioned, Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of MAZANDARAN, reported that the gelding had been unable to establish himself in the lead in today’s race, due to the fast early pace.  He added that MAZANDARAN received a bump at about the 300M, which put him out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of MAZANDARAN revealed no significant finding. MAZANDARAN which was beaten 19 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. The gelding was impounded.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 6 (R606) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 12 MAY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 13 May 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of CONDADO. Evidence was taken from Jockey F Yap and Trainer PS Kumaran, the jockey and trainer of CONDADO respectively.

Jockey F Yap stated that his instructions were to race forward but that CONDADO threw his head up on jumping, began awkwardly and laid outwards. As a consequence, the gelding was slowly away and had no opportunity to recover his position in the early stages.

Jockey F Yap added that he did not feel to make progress on the inside between the 800M and the 600M as he was concerned about being caught on the heels of MIA (App L De Souza) which rolled in briefly. Approaching the 400M, he elected to shift to the outside of MIA as he felt that this would give him the best chance of a clear run in the straight. However, the opportunity to obtain clear running did not present itself until the final 100M, whereupon CONDADO responded to pressure and finished strongly.

The Stewards warned Jockey F Yap that under similar circumstances in future, he must be seen to take sufficient measures to improve his position in the middle stages, and attempt to develop a run in the straight rather than waiting for a clear run to present itself.

They also informed Trainer PS Kumaran that he may be required in future to give the riding instructions for CONDADO in front of the Stewards’ Panel, in the event that he chooses a rider who is unfamiliar with the horse.

RACE 1 (R601) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

At about the 1150M, SUPER GOOD (SU Lim) brushed with ELEGANT DANCER (App AM Aizat) which crowded LIM’S RANGER (HS Gill) on his inside.

KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL (App CK Khaw) jumped awkwardly outwards and when corrected, brushed with SEA HORIZON (App L De Souza) on his inside.

MR EPIC (A Aucharuz) was slow to find its stride.

In the early and middle stages, SUPER GOOD (SU Lim) was forced to race wide in order to obtain a forward position.

PERCIUS (L Sofhan) was outpaced in the early and middle stages.

Between the 400M and the 300M, ELEGANT DANCER was disappointed for a run on the heels of SUPER JOY (S Anandan).

Approaching the 200M, KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL was disappointed for a run on the heels of SUPER JOY. He obtained clear running when switched inwards but was then further denied a clear run in the last strides.

Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of POLO GAGA, dropped his hands in the final strides and was beaten a short-head for fifth placing. He was reminded of his obligations under MRA Rule 44(6) to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

App AM Aizat, the rider of ELEGANT DANCER, reported that the tongue-tie on his horse came off during running.

RACE 2 (R602) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

HEIRRO (App S Uzair) was restless in the barrier and reared before the gate opened.

WINGED FOOT (J De Souza) was slow to begin.

MUSANG KING (S Sandana) was over-racing in the early stages.

Approaching the 1000M, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of GUILTLESS, restrained his mount in order to take a lead from HEIRRO and in doing so, caused WINGED FOOT which was racing directly behind GUILTLESS to take a slight check. Jockey S Ruzaini was warned as a result of this incident that he must not slow the pace excessively when not clear.

SILVER POWER (App AK Lim) over-raced in the middle stages. Jockey S Ruzaini reported that GUILTLESS over-raced in response to SILVER POWER over-racing on his outside.

At about the 300M, Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of ITS ONLY MONEY, dropped his whip. The Stewards warned him that a repetition in future may lead to a penalty being imposed.

At about the 300M, GUILTLESS was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 200M, WINGED FOOT was disappointed for a run on the heels of SILVER POWER and thereafter was unable to obtain clear running until after the 100M.

RACE 3 (R603) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

D’GREAT STRIKE (I Saifudin) jumped inwards and bumped RAINBOW JAZZ (S Sandana) inwards onto NASI LEMAK (M Ganeesh) which lost its early position as a consequence.

PENDRAGON PRINCESS (S Salee) jumped awkwardly outwards and crowded GHOST SPIRIT (HS Gill) on the inside of NOVA FALCON (O Chavez) which jumped inwards.

D’GREAT STRIKE raced keenly and laid inwards in the early stages.

At about the 1000M, PENDRAGON PRINCESS was over-racing and laid outwards, bumping MISE EN GARDE (J Mallyon) outwards.

In the last 200M, FORTYEIGHT QUEEN (SU Lim) showed a tendency to lay inwards under pressure and had to be corrected to avoid the heels of NASI LEMAK approaching the 100M.

Jockeys M Ganeesh and I Saifudin, the rider of NASI LEMAK and D’GREAT STRIKE respectively, reported that their horses raced greenly throughout.

RAINBOW JAZZ which was beaten 25 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

RACE 4 (R604) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer W Lim was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on IMMORTAL LEGACY (App AK Lim).

GERMANIC (HS Gill) jumped outwards and brushed with LOUEY VELOCE (S Ruzaini).

IMMORTAL LEGACY jumped outwards and bumped BAKUTEH (M Ganeesh).

NOVA CANO (I Fadzlei) raced wide in the early and middle stages, and shifted out under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of NOVA CANO revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Approaching the 600M, LOUEY VELOCE (S Ruzaini) was forced to check off the heels of LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil) which rolled outwards briefly and then rolled back inwards.

IMMORTAL LEGACY, which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned, Jockey F Yap, the rider of AUSSIE EAGLE, reported that he had taken a precautionary check shortly after the start as LUCKY SIXTYSIX drifted inwards from his outside, and that at about the 800M, he had to check again to avoid the heels of RICKIE (J Mallyon).

Trainer WC Lim, the trainer of AUSSIE EAGLE, reported that it had been his intention for Jockey F Yap to ride the race from a handy or midfield position, and he felt that the early interference had left AUSSIE EAGLE too far back and caused the gelding to underperform.

When questioned, Jockey O Chavez, the rider of BAHAR, stated that from his wide draw, he had attempted to drop the horse in and ride for luck, however, he had been forced to switch wide in order to make progress approaching the 900M and had therefore found himself in the rear division. He added that BAHAR produced a disappointing response to pressure in the straight.

RACE 1 (R482) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

MAJOR IMPROVEMENT (S Ipek) shifted inwards on jumping causing CRESCENDO (I Fadzlei) to check and to lose its position in the early stages.  MAJOR IMPROVEMENT continued to shift inwards causing ENDURANCE (App KC Wong) to take a check at about the 1350M. Jockey S Ipek was reprimanded as a result of this incident and warned to ensure that he respects the 2-length standard when crossing in front of rivals in the early stages.

SKYHAWK (S Ruzaini) over-raced in the early stages. The Stewards enquired into the improved running of the winner, EASTERN TOWKAY (F Yap). B Trainer Siva Kumar s/o Subramaniam, Trainer PS Kumaran’s representative, explained that EASTERN TOWKAY’s rider had been unhappy with the gelding’s action after its previous run on 7 April 2018. EASTERN TOWKAY demonstrated signs of soreness in his off fore foot shortly afterwards, leading Trainer PS Kumaran to conclude that the gelding may have been feeling the effects of a stone-bruise during the race.

Approaching the 300M, TALISMAN (App S Uzair) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running but whilst doing so, drifted towards D’GREAT RISE (App KC Wong) which shied away and made contact with the hind-quarters of SEGAR THE BEST (HS Gill). As a result, SEGAR THE BEST was turned inwards and shifted left, causing D’GREAT RISE to be crowded on its inside and to bump with TALISMAN.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Uzair, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer SB Tan was reprimanded and warned by the Stewards that he must take more care in future when maneuvering through a tight gap.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of LEE BANK, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 200M, LEE BANK (Y Aify) shifted inwards under pressure and moved across SEGAR THE BEST when insufficiently clear causing that horse to be eased to avoid his heels.

Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 23 April 2018 and to expire on 29 April 2018, both dates inclusive. GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 7 (R439) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 7 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 15 April 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of LIM’S SIGNATURE. Evidence was taken from Jockey Y Aify and Trainer BT Lim, the rider and Trainer of LIM’S SIGNATURE respectively.

Trainer BT Lim stated that this was LIM’S SIGNATURE’s first race under his training and that the gelding had not demonstrated much ability in trackwork and trials. He added that in his opinion, the horse would be better suited by a longer distance than the 1200M of this race.

Jockey Y Aify stated that LIM’S SIGNATURE was crowded at the jump and was placed further back in the field than ideal as a consequence. He tried to get closer to the leaders between the 1000M and the 400M, but LIM’S SIGNATURE displayed a limited response until the straight. Thereafter, LIM’S SIGNATURE finished his race well despite being briefly crowded by MARINI WALTZ (O Chavez) which laid outwards at about the 200M. Jockey Y Aify added that LIM’S SIGNATURE, whose most recent starts in Singapore were on Polytrack, showed an awkward running action with a tendency to climb. He therefore felt it best to keep a tight hold of the gelding’s head with his left hand while using his whip with his right.

The Stewards noted their explanations but warned Jockey Y Aify that in future he must ride his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

AMENDMENT

RACE 9 (R452) M’SIA GROUP 1 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), TUNKU GOLD CUP, SUNDAY, 8 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of MR NEVERMIND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 100M, he crossed VOLCANIC GENERAL when insufficiently clear.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days.

The Stewards acceded to Jockey SU Lim’s subsequent request to commence his suspension with effect from 9 April 2018 and to expire on 15 April 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:10pm).

SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 8 APRIL 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 7), upgraded to “Good” before Race 8.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R444)         CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

AMI ELEVEN (App L De Souza) was fractious in the barrier and had to be urged to obtain a forward position.

MEGUSTO (App CK Khaw) was slow to find its stride and as a consequence, had to race wide in order to obtain a midfield position.

From the 400M to the 100M, RED SAPPHIRE (J De Souza) was persistently denied a clear run on the heels of EXCITING PROSPECT (SU Lim) and EASTWOOD (Y Aify), and was only able to obtain clear running when EASTWOOD was shifted outwards until the final 100M. Thereafter RED SAPPHIRE was angled outwards, but was only able to be fully tested in the last 50M.

From the 250M to the 50M, HAPPY EDDINGTON (App WK Lee) was disappointed for a run on the heels of AMI ELEVEN and EXCITING PROSPECT, and only obtained clear running inside the last 50M.

From the 150M, MESSI (Z Khairil) laid inwards under pressure causing EASTWOOD and RED SAPPHIRE to be briefly crowded on his inside at the 150M. Jockey Z Khairil was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he must make greater effort to keep his mount straight in future.

RACE 2 (R445)         MAIDEN – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

RICH AND SMART (Y Aify) jumped outwards, taking EAGLESHAM (SU Lim) outwards and causing JEFFREY (J Mallyon) to be crowded between EAGLESHAM and BIG MOTOR (HS Gill) which was himself crowded by BRILLIANT STAR in the first few strides.

BRILLIANT STAR (App J Daniel) jumped inwards, causing MAXIM DRAGON (App KC Wong) to be taken inwards shortly after the start. BIG MOTOR was thereafter crowded between MAXIM DRAGON and JEFFREY, and all three (3) horses became unbalanced as a result.

MUSANG KING (S Anandan) was observed to be over-racing in the early stages and was shifted outwards at about the 1400M by CRESCENDO (I Fadzlei) which rolled outwards.

At about the 800M, JEFFREY (J Mallyon) commenced to race greenly, laid inwards and then, in response to his rider’s attempt to correct, shifted abruptly outwards and became awkwardly placed on the heels of MAXIM DRAGON and was forced to check.

Approaching the 400M, MAXIM DRAGON was shifted inwards to obtain clear running but soon found himself crowded by JEFFREY on his inside and awkwardly placed on the heels of BIG MOTOR.

EAGLESHAM laid inwards under pressure in the final 150M.

At about the 100M, JEFFREY was disappointed for a run on the heels of BIG MOTOR.

Jockey I Fadzlei, the rider of CRESCENDO, reported post-race that his horse raced keenly in the stages.

Jockey S Anandan, the rider of MUSANG KING, also reported post-race that his horse raced keenly.

GASSUR (O Chavez) over-raced and got its head up in the early stages. When questioned, Jockey O Chavez reported that he had been unable to obtain cover and was therefore unable to settle the gelding. He added that he had reported to Trainer F Maynard that GASSUR may be better suited by a shorter distance in future.

READY TO ROCK (J De Souza) raced keenly in the early stages.

GHOST EMPEROR (C Goon) laid outwards at about the 550M and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

Approaching the 400M, MOGAN’S PRIDE (App KC Wong) shifted outwards under pressure despite the rider’s best efforts causing DAWN OF THE WORLD (App AK Lim) to be taken outwards in response and REAL MEAN (App CK Khaw) to shy away from DAWN OF THE WORLD.

From the 200M, LA FAMILIA shifted inwards under pressure.

Approaching the 50M, DAVINCI (F Yap) was angled outwards to obtain clear running.

When questioned, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of LIM’S BATTLE, stated that the gelding was outpaced and produced just a fair response to vigorous riding in the straight. He added that LIM’S BATTLE seemed rather flat. Trainer BT Lim stated that in his opinion, LIM’S BATTLE had struggled to cope with the step up in class. He also felt that the gelding may be feeling the effects of a busy schedule. The Stewards noted their explanations. A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S BATTLE revealed no significant finding.

 RACE 5 (R448)         CLASS 5 – 1800M (LONG COURSE A)

Trainer C Leck was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on SPEED CRAFT.

SPEED CRAFT (M Zairi) stood still as the barrier opened and refused to move despite the rider’s urgings. In response to the rider’s attempts to make him start the race, SPEED CRAFT reared and dislodged Jockey M Zairi. The gelding will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the starting stall tests at consecutive weekly intervals) before being declared to race again.

 RACE 6 (R449)         CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

 SUNGEI BESI AUTOWORLD CUP

SWEET LODGE (App WK Lee) was slow to begin,

At about the 1000M, NOBLE LIAISON rolled inwards as METIER STAR laid slightly outwards resulting in both horses making contact.

BADCOE (S Ruzaini) raced wide in the early stages.

LUCKY DAPPER (Z Khairil) raced wide in the middle stages in an attempt to make progress.

At about the 300M, METIER STAR was shifted outwards to obtain clear running between LUCKY DAPPER and GABBAR (O Chavez), however came across GABBAR when insufficiently clear causing GABBAR to ease for several strides.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of METIER STAR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 300M mark, he crossed GABBAR (O Chavez) when insufficiently clear of that horse, causing GABBAR to be eased to avoid his heels.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 16 April 2018 and to expire on 22 April 2018, both dates inclusive.  RACE 7 (R450)         CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

ROYAL EXPLORER (S Ruzaini) jumped inwards and bumped BROWCOW (HK Cheng).

BROWCOW was observed to be over-racing in the early stages. When questioned, Jockey HK Cheng reported that BROWCOW does have a tendency to race keenly and that the Trainer had instructed him not to push the horse to obtain an early position in case it became intractable. He therefore settled the horse in mid-to-back position but was content to do so as he felt that the early pace was fast. Jockey HK Cheng further stated that after several attempts to obtain clear running in the straight, he found himself disappointed for a run and raced in restricted room at about the 100M, and was therefore unable to fully test BROWCOW in the latter stages.

PALTROW (M Ganeesh) was soon outpaced in rear.

At about the 300M, ROYAL EXPLORER was angled outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of GADAWON (O Chavez) which shifted inwards.

At about the 200M, MR WOLFF (Y Aify) commenced to lay in under pressure causing LIM’S SPRINT (HS Gill) to be taken inwards in response.  Jockey Y Aify was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he would be expected to take appropriate measures to keep his horses straight in future.

At about the 150M, TAFFETAS (App L De Souza) laid outwards as THESE STREETS (App KC Wong) rolled inwards causing the tiring LAUS DEO (S Salee) to be briefly crowded between them.

At about the 100M, ROYAL EXPLORER laid outwards under pressure causing BROWCOW to be taken outwards and awkwardly placed on the heels of EN LAUDER (App CK Khaw).

A post-race veterinary examination of LAUS DEO revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

JJ STAR (App KC Wong) jumped awkwardly outwards and lost ground.

D’GREAT STRIKE (SS Vanan) laid inwards and raced greenly in the early stages.

ROYAL ACE (App L De Souza) raced greenly in the early stages causing SAKURA JAPAN (S Ruzaini) to be taken wide and BIG BUS (S Anandan) to shy away from SAKURA JAPAN. ROYAL ACE continued to race greenly with its head up in the middle stages.

TRUDEAU raced keenly in the early stages and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ARAGORN.

At about the 1000M, LISTEN (App AM Aizat) rolled inwards approaching the bend and bumped AL VALORE (App J Daniel). At this point, ORDER OF THE SUN was racing in restricted room on the inside of AL VALORE which was bumped inwards, and awkwardly placed on the heels of BLACK THORN (HS Gill).

Approaching the 100M, MR NEVERMIND (SU Lim) shifted in under pressure and crossed VOLCANIC GENERAL (S Ruzaini) when insufficiently clear causing the rider of VOLCANIC GENERAL to ease in order avoid his heels.

An objection was lodged by Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of VOLCANIC GENERAL, placed second, against MR NEVERMIND (SU Lim), the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 100M. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards determined that the alleged interference had affected the chances of VOLCANIC GENERAL and the objection was upheld. The placings were amended to read:

No. 1 – VOLCANIC GENERAL (S Ruzaini)

No. 2 – MR NEVERMIND (SU Lim)

No. 3 – SHOWBOY (O Chavez)

No. 4 – TIDAL WAVE (J De Souza)

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 1 (R433) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SATURDAY, 7 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 8 April 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into an incident approaching the 100M. Evidence was taken from App L De Souza, the rider ELF’S DREAM, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines who is also the Trainer of ELF’S DREAM.

App L De Souza, the rider of ELF’S DREAM, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of MACHUNG STAR (SU Lim) which was eased and lost momentum.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App L De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 9 April 2018 and to expire on 15 April 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (11:40am).

RACE 11 (R443) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 7 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 8 April 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of SUPER JOY. Evidence was taken from App N Varmah, the rider of SUPER JOY, in the presence of his Master, Trainer C Leck who is also the Trainer of SUPER JOY.

Trainer C Leck stated that before the race, he considered SUPER JOY to have the weakest chance of his three (3) runners. He therefore instructed App N Varmah to move across to take the lead if LONESOME ME (R Woodworth) did not do so, in the hope of stealing the race from the front.

App N Varmah stated that SUPER JOY had demonstrated sufficient pace to easily take the lead but had thereafter over-raced in the middle stages, resulting in a disappointing response in the straight.

The Stewards noted their explanations.

RACE 11 (R443) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 7 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

The Stewards questioned Trainer C Leck about the apparent improved performance of the winner, ARLO (S Ruzaini). Trainer C Leck reported that ARLO had been badly out of form for some time and had become well handicapped as a result. However, the gelding had displayed recent signs of a revival in his trackwork and a Barrier Practice. He added that ARLO may also have been suited by the rain-affected track and therefore the result did not come as a complete surprise to him, although he had preferred the chance of ARLO’s stablemate, HERECOMESMYMONEY (SU Lim). The Stewards noted his explanation.

ADDENDUM

RACE 9 (R412) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 31 MARCH 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2018

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of ARIEL and evidence was taken from Jockey Lou Ho and Trainer F Maynard, the rider and Trainer of ARIEL respectively.

Jockey Lou Ho stated that the horse habitually finds less than expected at the end of his races, and that he had discussed the possibility of changing tactics in this race with Trainer F Maynard. They had agreed that if TILSWORTH MALI (M Ganeesh) did not take the lead, he would allow ARIEL to do so.

Trainer F Maynard confirmed these instructions, adding that ARIEL has been a frustrating type and that he was willing to try new tactics to help the gelding break his maiden. However, on this occasion he felt that ARIEL had over-raced in the early stages and produced a disappointing response in the straight as a result.

The Stewards noted their explanations.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

AMENDMENT

RACE 10 (R413) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 31 MARCH 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 3 April 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into an incident at about the 250M. Evidence was taken from App W Faizal, the rider of TRUMPS UP, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy who is also the Trainer of TRUMPS UP, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of LEE BANK and App AK Lim, the rider of SMOOTHLY. Initial evidence was also taken from Jockey F Yap, the rider of KUTTNER, on 31 March 2018.

App W Faizal, the rider of TRUMPS UP, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 250M, he shifted inwards under pressure when insufficiently clear of LEE BANK (Y Aify) which was carried inwards, causing KUTTNER to be crowded on the inside of LEE BANK and SMOOTHLY (App AK Lim) to be tightened against the inside rail.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App W Faizal’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) Malaysian race days with immediate effect from 3 April 2018 and to expire on 15 April 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (11:15am).

SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 31 MARCH 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 4), upgraded to “Good” after Race 4.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R394)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

WINNING TANGO (M Ganeesh) jumped awkwardly inwards and almost dislodged Jockey M Ganeesh. After jumping inwards, WINNING TANGO bumped MORALES (Z Khairil) and then shifted further inwards and bumped ELEGANT DANCER (KC Wong) inwards towards SWIFT (S Salee), which brushed with ORION (App CK Khaw). At this point, ORION was turned outwards and crowded SWIFT.

When questioned, Jockey M Ganeesh stated that shortly before the gate opened, WINNING TANGO commenced to lean against the right hand side of the barrier. In attempting to edge his mount inwards, he took his right hand off the rein and attempted to use the framework of the stalls as leverage. The gate opened when he was not fully ready causing him to become very unbalanced as WINNING TANGO jumped forward.

After reviewing this incident, the Stewards accepted that Jockey M Ganeesh’s intention was to straighten his mount and obtain a good jump in order to take the lead, but severely cautioned him and warned him that under similar circumstances in future, he must ask the Starter for assistance and must not take his hands off the reins while in the barrier.

MORALES which suffered interference at the jump, was slow to find its stride.

Shortly after the jump, App WW Cheah, the rider of KARIGARA, attempted to steer his mount inwards from his wide barrier. At this point, KARIGARA laid abruptly inwards and brushed with COLONEL LINCOLN (J Low) and Jockey J Low was forced to take evasive action.

COLONEL LINCOLN was forced wide in the middle stages.

At about the 400M, ELEGANT DANCER laid inwards under pressure and reacted abruptly to one strike of the whip, forcing Jockey KC Wong to ease and correct.

At about the 400M, the whips of App WW Cheah, the rider of KARIGARA, and Jockey J Low, the rider of COLONEL LINCOLN became entangled causing Jockey J Low to drop his whip.

COLONEL LINCOLN, SWIFT and MORALES which were beaten 16 1/4, 16 1/4 and 22 1/4 lengths respectively, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performances.

 RACE 3 (R396)         CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

BELLA VELOCE (J Mallyon) was slow to begin.

PLATOON (HK Cheng) got its head up on jumping but broke on terms.

LIM’S BATTLE (HS Gill) was slow to find its stride.

IDEAL GUIDE (App WW Cheah) raced wide in the middle stages and HIGH TENSILE (App CC Wong) was forced to race wide, and to switch around IDEAL GUIDE in order to commence his run at the 500M.

Approaching the 400M, NEVERSAYNEVER (S Muniandy) was disappointed for a run on the heels of THE JEUNEYMAN (Y Aify).

Between the 400M and the 250M, IDEAL GUIDE was disappointed for a run on the heels of SHOWAR (S Ruzaini).

Approaching the 100M, CUBAN HEEL (App L De Souza) had to be guided into a narrow gap between WILLIAM KING (C Goon) on his inside and NEVERSAYNEVER on his outside.

A post-race veterinary examination of PLATOON revealed no significant finding. PLATOON which was beaten 17 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey C Goon, the rider of WILLIAM KING, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to allow sufficient space for CUBAN HEEL (App L De Souza) to his inside approaching the 500M, causing CUBAN HEEL to be tightened against the rail and unbalanced.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Goon’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 April 2019 and to expire on 14 April 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (1:50pm).

RACE 4 (R397)         AINTREE PARK CHALLENGE CUP

– 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Approaching the 1100M, as the pace slowed, D’GREAT RICH (App CC Wong) was eased off the heels of MORE POWER (J De Souza).

CONFEAT (O Chavez) laid inwards under pressure from approaching the 200M.

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” after the running of this race.

The Stewards enquired into the running and handling of CONFEAT (O Chavez). Jockey O Chavez stated that the gelding had raced three times, winning once, and on the other two occasions he was taken to the lead before tiring in the concluding stages. He therefore felt it was imperative to ride CONFEAT with patience and enable him to relax and save his energy, particularly as this race was over the longest distance he has tackled. He communicated this to the Owner, Navaneethasingham a/l A Ratnasingham, in the parade ring just prior to the race. He stated that he did not receive any particular riding instructions from Trainer SB Tan and therefore proceeded to ride CONFEAT in his preferred manner. Trainer SB Tan stated that his intention was for CONFEAT to be positioned in the “box seat” position just behind the leaders, but admitted that he relied on an assistant to communicate these instructions to Jockey O Chavez who did not receive them.

Jockey O Chavez further explained that he had struggled to settle CONFEAT, as there was little cover available in the small field and he felt that it would be unsafe to take the available position between AIR POWER and FULL BET, as he would have put himself in danger of running on to heels. He added that CONFEAT eventually relaxed at about the 900m and finished well when he commenced his effort from the 400m.

Trainer SB Tan pronounced himself satisfied with the ride given in the circumstances. The attention of all parties was drawn to the provisions of MRA Rule 117(4) which specifies that the jockey’s instructions must come from the Trainer, not the Owner. The Stewards otherwise accepted the explanations tendered.

Jockey O Chavez also mentioned that the fitting of a cross-nose band, which was intended to stop CONFEAT over-racing, may have backfired as the gelding seemed uncomfortable with this new gear. Trainer SB Tan was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the use of cross-nose band within the prescribed time.

 RACE 5 (R398)         OPEN MAIDEN – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

MOONSHINE MISTRESS (J Mallyon) and LIGHTNING HERO (App A Suriya) were both slow to begin.

DONT MIND IFIDO (O Chavez) was allowed to settle forward into the lead but over-raced and failed to settle. When questioned, Jockey O Chavez reported that DONT MIND IFIDO was hard to control throughout the race and had tried to run out from the 800M. In the event, he felt it was prudent to ease the gelding in the concluding stages. The gelding which was beaten 16 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having difficult racing manners.

Approaching the 1200M, LIGHTNING HERO commenced to over-race, shifted inwards and brushed with BEAUTIFUL ONE (App S Uzair).

From the 600M, DONT MIND IFIDO laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty causing LIM’S KEYWAY (C Goon), ROMAN WELLS (App N Varmah) and LIGHTNING HERO to be taken outwards in turn and forced wide around the bend.

LIGHTNING HERO was forced to race wide in order to make progress in the middle stages. At about the 200M, LIGHTNING HERO commenced to lay inwards under pressure.

I HAVE A DREAM (S Muniandy) which was beaten 19 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

RACE 6 (R399)         CLASS 4 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

PARISBAS (HS Gill) jumped outwards and brushed with REAL MEAN (J De Souza) which was turned inwards. PARISBAS was bumped back inwards by REAL MEAN and lost its early position as a consequence. Shortly afterwards, PARISBAS ran onto the heels of REAL MEAN, clipped heels and dipped. Jockey J De Souza was shown the vision of these 2 incidents and warned by the Stewards that if bumped by a rival, he may hold his line but must never attempt to retaliate. He was also warned to respect the 2-length standard when crossing rivals.

PARISBAS laid outwards from the 600M and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

Approaching the 500M, SACRED EMPIRE (App CC Wong) was disappointed for a run on the heels of BLOOD ROYAL (KC Wong) and was shifted outwards and forfeited ground.

Approaching the 400M, BLOOD ROYAL had to be angled outwards to obtain a clear run on the outside of BACK TO THE TOWERS (S Anandan) but laid inwards. Approaching the 300M, BLOOD ROYAL commenced to lay persistently inwards and continued to do so until the finish causing Jockey KC Wong to ease and correct on several occasions.

At about the 200M, TURQUOISE KING (S Salee) laid inwards under pressure towards the rail causing M SEVEN (App CK Khaw) which was following, to be shifted outwards for a clear passage.

HERO CHAMPION (S Ruzaini) which was beaten 29 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination of HERO CHAMPION revealed no significant finding.

SUNGAI BESI AUTOWORLD CUP

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of BROTHER WIND, was fined RM1000/- under MRA Rule 121(7) for weighing in 1kg over his declared weight. He admitted that he had consumed liquids after weighing out.

FIRST PRECINCT (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 200M, BROTHER WIND (O Chavez) was angled outwards to progress into a gap between AUSONE (App A Suriya) and SHOQEET (S Ruzaini) but as that gap narrowed approaching the 150M, BROTHER WIND was shifted abruptly inwards to obtain an alternative run against the rail.

SHOQEET laid inwards under pressure between the 200M and the 100M.

When questioned regarding the improved performance shown by SHOQEET, Trainer F Maynard stated that his was the gelding’s second run in this current preparation, having returned from an 8-month spell after transfer from Singapore. He added that SHOQEET was better suited by the longer distance of today’s race as compared to 1200M previously.

HIP HIP HOORAY (S Muniandy) raced wide in the middle stages.

Approaching the 200M, NOVA FALCON (S Ruzaini) commenced to lay inwards away from the whip and in doing so, caused LA FAMILIA (R Woodworth) to be briefly eased at about the 150M.

Between the 200M and the 100M, SPLENDOR (O Chavez) had to shift outwards to obtain clear passage on the outside of NOVA FALCON.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey R Woodworth, the rider of LA FAMILIA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 800M, he crossed LIM’S CASINO (HS Gill) when not sufficiently clear causing LIM’S CASINO to be checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey R Woodworth’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysia and Singapore race days, with effect from 1 April 2019 and to expire on 6 April 2019, both dates inclusive. Jockeys M Ganeesh and S Ruzaini, the rider of HK DOLLAR and EXCITING PROSPECT respectively, were each fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for supplying the wrong saddle cloth numbers to the Trainers’ representatives when passing the saddles for weighing out. This resulted in HK DOLLAR and EXCITING PROSPECT having to be resaddled and delayed their progress to the start.

SONG KID (App L De Souza) jumped outwards and bumped SEA HORIZON (App KC Wong) which in turn bumped FULL MEANING (Lou Ho).

SEA HORIZON over-raced without cover between the 1300M and the 1000M.

At about the 250M, DEE MAJULAH (S Ipek) edged outwards causing MAGIC RANGER (HS Gill) to be momentarily crowded on the inside of EXCITING PROSPECT (S Ruzaini).

At about the 250M, EXCITING PROSPECT commenced to lay inwards under pressure and at about the 200M, caused DEE MAJULAH to be taken inwards which resulted in JUST VITAL (Z Khairil) being crowded between DEE MAJULAH and NOVA ACE (SU Lim). JUST VITAL was forced to check and was subsequently switched outwards to obtain clear running.

An objection was lodged by Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of JUST VITAL, placed fourth, against DEE MAJULAH (S Ipek) placed third, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 100M mark.

After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had affected the chances of JUST VITAL. The objection was upheld and the placings were amended to read:

No. 1 – EXCITING PROSPECT (S Ruzaini)

No. 2 – NOVA ACE (SU Lim)

No. 3 – JUST VITAL (Z Khairil)

No. 4 – DEE MAJULAH (S Ipek)

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of EXCITING PROSPECT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to drift inwards from the 250M causing DEE MAJULAH to be taken inwards which resulted in JUST VITAL being crowded on his inside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey S Ruzaini’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 19 March 2018 and to expire on 25 March 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:10pm).

FULL MEANING which was beaten 24 ¼ lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of EXCITING PROSPECT, Trainer C Leck stated that he was surprised by the gelding’s performance and could not confidently explain what had caused the improvement. The Stewards noted his explanation.

RACE 3 (R322)         CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE D)

KISS ME (App WK Lee) which dislodged its rider on the way to the start and galloped a considerable distance, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:51pm. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall, to be ridden unaided to the start) test before being declared to race again.

LIM’S GREETING (C Goon) was slow to begin.

SPIN FIRE (M Ganeesh) raced wide from the 1000M to the 500M.

At about the 350M, NOVA RANGER (S Ruzaini) was disappointed for a run as GASSUR (O Chavez) momentarily shifted outwards.

Jockey S Ipek, the rider of SAND BANK, eased his horse in the final 100M, losing fifth place. Jockey S Ipek was shown the film of his ride and was reminded of his obligation  under MRA Rule 44(6) that in future he would be expected to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards, failing which action may be taken against him.

REPORT OF ANALYSIS ON NON-RACE DAY SAMPLE

The report dated 1 March 2018 (NRD/V18/002) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 1 bottle of coded jockey urine sample was received on 19 February 2018, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations and that Sample Coded “J-3495” indicates the presence of “Dextromethorphan.”

Upon decoding, it was established that the abovementioned sample belonged to A Farezul (Muhammad Farezul Bin Aziz) and that it had been produced on 2nd February 2018 when A Farezul was required by the Stewards, exercising their powers under MRA Rule 136(2), to supply a urine sample. The sample coded “J-3495” was stored in accordance with the provisions of MRA regulation 29.5 between 2nd February and the first weekend of the Selangor February meeting, whereupon it was securely dispatched to the Veterinary Forensic Laboratory alongside the race day samples collected over that weekend.

At the time of supplying the sample, A Farezul was a Senior Track Rider registered to Trainer C Leck. However on 8th February 2018 Trainer Leck informed the Racing Office at Selangor Turf Club that Farezul was no longer employed by him. An Inquiry into this matter will be held on a date to be fixed.

RACE 1 (R257) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 11 March 2018 (Sunday) at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of BEIJING STAR (F Yap) which was heavily restrained leaving the stalls and raced in rear before making some late progress.

Jockey F Yap stated that on jumping, BEIJING STAR threw its head up slightly and that he was not expecting this, having never ridden the horse before. As a consequence, Jockey F Yap took a tight grip of the horse’s head to regain his own balance.

Trainer WC Lim stated that BEIJING STAR has a tendency to throw its head up at the start and that he had neglected to inform Jockey F Yap of this.

The Stewards noted their explanations.

RACE 4 (R250) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 24 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 11 March 2018 (Sunday) at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of ASTRO MAN. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and Trainer of ASTRO MAN respectively.

Jockey M Ganeesh stated that although it was his intention to obtain a midfield position, he was distracted by JANGO (J Mallyon) on his outside which threatened to shift inwards and crowd him at about the 1000M. He therefore eased in anticipation, allowing JUST DUIT (S Sandana) to cross to the rail in front of him at the 900M. Thereafter, ASTRO MAN was placed in a mid-to-back position with no opportunity to improve until the straight.

Jockey M Ganeesh further added that ASTRO MAN had changed his legs approaching the 200M, at which point he attempted to shift outwards into a gap between SUNTZU (Z Khairil) and FLYING NEKO (R Woodworth). At about the 150M, ASTRO MAN changed his legs again and so he rode with less vigour for a few strides, for fear that he might become unbalanced and bump another horse.

The Stewards noted these explanations but warned Jockey M Ganeesh that in future he must be seen to take all permissible measures to give his mounts the best chance of obtaining the best possible placing.
