The Stewards inquired into Jockey S Ruzaini’s riding of LITTLE MASTER. He advised that he had been instructed to ride LITTLE MASTER in a mid-to-back position as it was considered to be too short for the gelding. He had achieved this positioning and had ridden LITTLE MASTER vigourously in the straight, however, believed the gelding was awkwardly with its head action and was inclined to hang out over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding his whip action, he explained that he had alternated backhand and a forehand usage and maintained that each “hit” was indeed making contact.

Whilst accepting the manner in which LITTLE MASTER was ridden in the early stages given its prior record, the Stewards advised Jockey S Ruzaini that he must put every horse in a position and ride it in a manner so as to fully test its potential.

RACE 5 (R888)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1800M (LONG COURSE)

BERLINETTA (S Ruzaini) veered outwards at the start, inconveniencing RIDE A WHITE HORSE (App S Uzair).

JARL (App R Nuqman) raced wide in the middle stages.

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini as to the reason he had not led on BERLINETTA. Trainer KP Hoy stated that it was the gelding’s first time over the 1800M in Malaysia. Although BERLINETTA led at its previous start, he had instructed, to give BERLINETTA an opportunity to run out the 1800M, that it be ridden off the pace.

Jockey S Ruzaini advised that the raced developed quickly with early speed from the 2 leaders but he had been unable to secure cover as several runners had pushed up on his inside. He had steadily made ground and was close to the leading pair on straightening, he had put BERLINETTA under pressure in the straight but the gelding had failed to respond and it lost considerable ground. He was of the opinion that BERLINETTA was not suited to distances greater than 1600M. In considering this, the Stewards warned Jockey S Ruzaini that he must ride every horse in a positive manner. Trainer KP Hoy was instructed that given his statement, that he should restrict BERLINETTA’s starts to shorter distance races.
