STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

PENANG JANUARY MEETING 2022  

SATURDAY, 29TH JANUARY  2022

RACE 1 (R136) CLASS 5(B) – 1700M 

 

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of GOLDEN CRAFTSMAN, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  • after having had a good jump at the 1700M, he took hold of his mount from approximately the 1500M-mark to the 1000M-mark and unnecessarily restrained his mount, resulting in it losing its position and placing it where it could not race to its best advantage;
  • he shifted out at approximately the 700M-mark when there was a clear run ahead of him.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey HK Cheng’s points of mitigation and his riding record.  Jockey HK Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months with effect from Monday, 31st January 2022 and to expire on Monday, 30th May 2022, both days inclusive. In addition, he was fined a sum of RM10,000/- (Ringgit Malaysia Ten Thousand).  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6.10pm).

RACE 3 (R138)  CLASS 4(B) – 1100M 

 At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App AR Aiman, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, S Hamilton, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SACRED SURFER, he permitted his mount to shift inwards from the start, carrying POLO BOY inwards onto ALCATRAZ, resulting in UNDER OATH (R Rueven) being crowded and having to check.  App AR Aiman was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days with effect from Monday, 31st January 2022 and to expire on Saturday, 19th February 2022, both days inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3.05 pm).  

SUNDAY, 30TH JANUARY  2022

RACE 6  (R149)   RAPID STAKES  A  –  1200M  

 

 At approximately the 900M-mark, SACRED TONIC (CK Khaw), LIM’S DASHING (AM Aizat) and MOONGATE LIGHT (L De Souza) suffered varying degrees of interference when RELAU STAR (S Saddam) shifted inwards.  At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey S Saddam pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) and was suspended for two (2) race days with effect from Monday, 31st January 2022 and to expire on Saturday, 19th February 2022, both days inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5.15pm).
