On inquiry, App A Suriya (NORTHERN KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip shortly after the start thereby allowing it to shift in, crowding M ELEVEN onto ASIAN TIGER and LET’S COME ON BABY.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Suriya’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 28 August 2023 and to expire on 9 September 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

10	MARTIN VJ (S Hafis)	Slow into stride. Inclined to lay inwards in the straight and shifted in markedly, struck with the whip with the rider having to stop and straighten on several occasions. Crowded runner near the winning post.

1	DRAGON SANDS (App I Fikri)	Proved difficult to load. In light of this, the gelding will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again. Badly blocked when attempting a run near the 200M and had to be restrained, eventually obtained a clear run in the final 100M.
2	SKYSCRAPER (O Chavez)	Had to be taken outwards when attempting a run near the 350M.
3	XIONG FONG (AK Lim)	Bumped heavily at the start.
5	GUILTY PLEASURES (App A Suriya)	Slow into stride. Dipped near the 1000M. Obliged to race wide in the middle stages.

6	IPOH KAIGEH (S Ruzaini)	Rider questioned as to the reason he did not take a run which presented itself at about the 250M. He advised that the gelding was racing greenly prior to this and he had taken it outwards in an endeavour to obtain a clear passage. Vet inspection: Lame off fore – 1000M/vet (2 weeks embargo)

Prior to being loaded, it was noticed that the Blinkers on FLAMING PHOENIX (J Low) had come undone, they were subsequently replaced, necessitating a delay.

6	VALERIE PEGASUS (Z Khairil)	Fly-jumped at the start and was subsequently slow into stride, then raced greenly. Rider (Dead heat 4^th) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the finish.

RACE 9 (R0891) Metro A – 1275M (Track II)

2	KIRIN (App I Fikri)	Tended to hang out at the turn near the 700M. Vet inspection: Lame off fore. In light of its soundness history, Trainer BT Lim was advised that the gelding will not be permitted to race for a period of 1 month and will be required to undergo a full veterinary examination prior to passing a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
4	TOP KNIGHT (App M Seelan)	Bumped on jumping.
5	SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (R Rueven)	Bumped on jumping.
7	XENA (App AB Riduan)	Carried out at the start then raced wide and took the turn into the straight wide. Rider’s whip and rein became entangled with the rider dropping his near side rein near the 50M. As such, Apprentice will be referred for retraining.

10	QIJI ACHEEVA (Z Khairil)	Whilst being loaded, rider struck his left foot at the stalls. After being examined by the Club Doctor, he was declared unfit to ride for the remainder of the race today. The gelding was subsequently withdrawn at 4:49pm. This necessitated a delay of several minutes.

Jockey O Chavez (FAMOUS NAME) was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1/2kg overweight.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 11 (R847) Class 5 – 1200M (A sc), SUNDAY, 6 AUGUST 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2023

The Stewards, on Thursday, 10 August 2023, inquired into running and handling of QUASAR in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey Z Khairil and Trainer NM Selvan, the rider and trainer of QUASAR respectively.

Trainer NM Selvan stated that he had instructed that QUASAR be ridden in a midfield position as was customary over the 1200M. Whilst he believed the gelding was best suited by racing on a softer track, he was comfortable with the state of the track as being suitable.

Jockey Z Khairil confirmed the instructions and advised that after jumping well, he had been in a nice position midfield, given that the leaders had gone very hard. Running to the 800M turn, he had been outside PACIFIC ARMANI (App R Nuqman) (placed second) and in advance of MARTIN VJ (App A Suriya) (winner) when he attempted to take up a better position closer to the fence but had received an appeal from App A Suriya who he believed was being crowded slightly. He had thus stayed in his three (3) wide position until straightening where he had struck QUASAR back handed on two (2) occasions. He had then ridden in his consistent manner using the whip on numerous occasions. He was of the opinion QUASAR had neither stopped nor progressed finishing a well beaten seventh (7^th).

The Stewards advised Jockey Z Khairil that they had concerns related to his true purpose when he had remained in three (3) wide position early in the race. He was advised that he must ride every mount in a purposeful and diligent manner.

Trainer NM Selvan was advised that it was expected that QUASAR be ridden in a similar fashion at its next starts.

RACE 10 (R846) Open Maiden – 1200M (A sc), SUNDAY, 6 AUGUST 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2023

In review of races from 5^th and 6^th August 2023, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey KP Lim for continuing to use his whip on MAGIC TURBO in the above race, when the gelding was clearly winning.

RACE 7 (R843) Class 4B – 1100M (A sc), SUNDAY, 6 AUGUST 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2023

App H Haikal who rode his 10^th winner on MR HANKS in this race, would only be entitled to claim 3kgs allowance as from Monday, 7 August 2023.

WITHDRAWAL OF APPEAL BY JOCKEY Y AIFY AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF SIX (6) MONTHS AND FINE OF RM20,000/- FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE PANEL OF STEWARDS RELATED TO HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “TORNADO PEGASUS” IN RACE 5 (R662) ON SUNDAY, 18 JUNE 2023 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2023

Jockey Y Aify (TORNADO PEGASUS) who lodged an appeal against his suspension of six (6) months and fine of RM20,000/- under MRA Rule 44(10), applied to withdraw his appeal on 15 August 2023. Pursuant to MRA Rule 149(1)(h), the Appeal Panel acceded to his request and his deposit shall be forfeited. His suspension commenced on 16 August 2023 and to expire on 15 February 2024, both dates inclusive.
