DAWN OF THE WORLD (AK Lim) jumped outwards at the start, bumping heavily with KING OPERA (App N Varmah) which in turn shifted out, crowding WILLIAM KING (J Low).

Over the concluding stages, TAIL SPIN (J De Souza) drifted out and approaching the winning post, caused LUCKY MASTER (App R Nuqman) to be tightened and then steadied, bumping the hind quarters of TAIL SPIN.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of TAIL SPIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) for shifting out and causing this incident.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, his good riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 15 July 2019 and to expire on 21 July 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:32pm).

RACE 8 (R879) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

This race was run in steady rain.

ROCK EAGLE (App WK Lee) jumped with its head in the air, losing considerable ground.

GOLD POWER (App WW Cheah) was slow into stride.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of SHOWAR, reported that his whip was knocked out of his hand by the whip of App CK Khaw, the rider of LINCOLN CITY, near the 75M.

The Stewards inquired into the riding of ROCK EAGLE. Trainer SY Lim advised that the gelding had a bad history of barrier problems and he had instructed App WK Lee to try to jump ROCK EAGLE and be midfield. App WK Lee stated that he was last to be loaded, and was not ready and has not taken hold of his breast-check. The start had taken him by surprise and he lost balance, falling back on ROCK EAGLE’s mouth. Subsequently, the gelding lost ground.

After considering this evidence, the Stewards instructed that App WK Lee perform ten (10) satisfactory Barrier Trials before being permitted to ride in races again. Trainer SY Lim was advised that ROCK EAGLE will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the starting stall tests) before being declared to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of ROCK EAGLE revealed no significant finding.

The Stewards were satisfied that SAHABA had thrown its head and attempted to rear as the start was effected and the efforts of the Barrier Handler in holding SAHABA’s tail at this stage, were in line with normal practice. As such, the Stewards deemed SAHABA to be a starter. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 1 (R841) CLASS 5 (B)– 1100M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 7 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into an interference approaching the 850M in the above race.

Approaching the 850M, ONCE A THIEF crowded BELIEVE IT OR NOT which in turn caused WILL BE BETTER (App M Lukman) to be checked, BARKER ROAD KID (App L De Souza) and POLO GAGA (S Ruzaini) which were following, were severely inconvenienced. On inquiry, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of ONCE A THIEF, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) for shifting in at this stage and causing this incident.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 14 July 2019 and to expire on 21 July 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 6 (R836) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 6 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 9 July 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of SUPER MARIO. Further evidence was taken from Jockey SU Lim and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of SUPER MARIO respectively. The Stewards also took evidence from Dr Shri Kanth, Senior Veterinary Surgeon of SLTC.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of SUPER MARIO, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He failed to take a gap when it presented itself at about the 350M when he was in a position and able to do so; and
  2. Over the final 250M, his whip use and vigour in the absence of his whip use, was not sufficient and failed to satisfy the Stewards.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Jockey SU Lim was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 21 July 2019 and to expire on 20 August 2019, both dates inclusive, to be served consecutively with his current suspension which ends on 20 July 2019. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3pm).

Jockey SU Lim subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal on 10 July 2019 and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was granted. The Appeal will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 4 (R844) CLASS 4 (A)– 1100M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 7 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 9 July 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of CHAR SIEW. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer MW Teh, the rider and trainer of CHAR SIEW respectively.

Trainer MW Teh advised that the gelding shifted badly when ridden with the whip at its last start when winning and as such, he had instructed Jockey M Ganeesh to use the whip more sparingly. He was also of the opinion that CHAR SIEW would not show early pace to be close to the lead.

Jockey M Ganeesh confirmed his instructions and advised that he had attempted to ride CHAR SIEW vigourously but with a moderated whip action.

Whilst accepting this, the Stewards warned Trainer MW Teh that he was obliged under the rules to advise the Stewards any matter or instructions which might affect the performance of any of his runners.

RACE 7 (R837) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 6 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 9 July 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of TEH TARIK. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of TEH TARIK respectively.

Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of TEH TARIK, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He failed to put any pressure on TEH TARIK in the early stages of the race, simply letting TEH TARIK fall out from the start;
  2. He effectively sat and restrained TEH TARIK in a rearward position in effectively 2nd or 3rd last from approximately the 850M mark and the 500M mark when in a position to improve his position and move forward in the field with no effort; and
  3. He rode TEH TARIK in the straight in a manner which did not assist TEH TARIK which hung in on 3 occasions, and when he had an opportunity to change his whip to the left hand or to straighten in a more reasonable fashion.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Jockey M Ganeesh was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months with immediate effect from 9 July 2019 and to expire on 8 January 2020, both dates inclusive. Further, he was fined RM50,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (5:15pm).

Jockey M Ganeesh subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal on 10 July 2019 and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was denied.
