The Stewards, on 6 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of GHOST SPIRIT. Evidence was taken from Jockey HS Gill and Trainer BT Lim, the rider and trainer of GHOST SPIRIT respectively.

Jockey HS Gill advised that GHOST SPIRIT had thrown its head down as the start was effected and had lost ground. Further, that the gelding was inclined to shy away from runners and he had again found himself at the rear. Trainer BT Lim stated that GHOST SPIRIT was a rather limited individual and although leading at its past two (2) starts had faded, he had thus considered it better to allow GHOST SPIRIT to race where it was comfortable.

He confirmed that GHOST SPIRIT was a weak horse which was very wary of other runners and as such he had made numerous gear changes. It was his intention to recommend to the owners that GHOST SPIRIT be given the opportunity to race in a less competitive environment.

He denied that he was looking or searching for anything or person in particular.

In accepting his explanation, the Stewards warned Jockey SU Lim that he must concentrate on riding his race and give no ground for suspicion as to wrongdoing.

Trainer L Moy stated that STREET OF LONDON as a 10-year-old had health issues, that the 1200M of the race was too short but he was unable to start STREET OF LONDON after its preferred distance of 1600M.

Jockey Y Aify was advised that he must ride all mounts, so as to leave no doubt as to his purpose in every race.

App WK Lee, the rider of CHAR SIEW, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. In the early stages after the start, he restrained CHAR SIEW and sat in a rearward position causing him to lose ground at the start;
  2. He failed to improve his position when he had an opportunity to do so between the 500M and the 425M; and
  3. He effectively restrained CHAR SIEW from near the 425M turning into the straight until the 350M, thereby letting the race progress when he was restraining.

App WK Lee was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 7 August 2019 and to expire on 6 November 2019, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with another suspension imposed under MRA Rule 44(10) on 6 August 2019. 2. He failed to take a run which presented itself at about the 150M mark between MR WOLFF (B Pinheiro) on his outside and ZHUHAI (SU Lim) on his inside, eventually restraining and taking PALTROW to the outside of MR WOLFF after passing the 100M mark, thereby losing ground on PALTROW.
