RACE 2 (R425) CLASS 5 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE A)

ACE SURPRISE (SS Vanan) and BLACK AHEAD (App KC Wong) bumped on jumping.

D’GREAT BATTALION (S Thai Yang) had to be eased off the heels of CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE (F Yap) shortly after the start and as a result, lost some ground.

SPARKLER (App S Zulfikri) was caught racing wide in the early and middle stages before gaining a position outside the leader at the 600M.

CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE and BLOOD ROYAL (J Low) were caught racing wide throughout the event.

At the 400M, ACE SURPRISE shifted out to gain clear running and ran home strongly.

Approaching 300M, CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE shifted in and as a result, BLACK AHEAD was taken in onto LITTLE JUMBO (App SU Lim).

MR EPIC (D Chong) had a tendency to lay in from the 200M resulting in the rider having to be straightened and ran home strongly.

Upon returning to scales, Jockey S Anandan, the rider of GHOST ACE, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout the race. GHOST ACE which distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey D Chong into the tactics that were adopted on MR EPIC throughout the event. Jockey D Chong reported that his instructions were to try and gain a midfield position, however, informed the Stewards that prior to mounting the gelding, he was informed to try and be in a more handy position.

Jockey D Chong reported that after beginning well from a wide barrier, he attempted to improve his position, however, it failed to respond to his riding and as a result, found himself further back than he had anticipated. Jockey D Chong stated that he placed the gelding under pressure shortly after entering the front straight where it ran home strongly into 3rd position.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films, advised Jockey D Chong that in future he would be expected try and improve his position in the middle stages in an endeavour to get closer to the leaders and he would have been able to finish better than 3 ½ lengths. The Stewards were satisfied with his explanation and noted his comments for future reference.

RACE 3 (R426) OPEN MAIDEN – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

NOVA GENERAL (App A Zaimuddin) reared as the gates opened upon jumping.

MASTER OF SUCCESS (App S Saddam) shifted outwards and bumped STEERING (Lou Ho) and as a result, STEERING, having received the bump, shifted outwards and inconvenienced NOVA DASHING (App WK Lee) and RUSH-MORE (J Shankar).

Making the turn at the 1000M, WAWA MASTER (M Zairi) which was over-racing, had to be eased off the heels of SEMIFREDDO (S Ruzaini) which rolled in at this point.

NOVA DASHING had a tendency to over-race at the rear of the field and had to be continuously checked off the heels of runners in front.

Approaching the 200M, RUSH-MORE had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure when being struck with the whip.

Leaving the 200M, STEERING rolled in marginally and as a result, NOVA GENERAL shifted in and away from that gelding and brushed the running rail resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and losing some ground.

Upon returning to scales, App WK Lee, the rider of NOVA DASHING, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout the race. NOVA DASHING which was beaten 21 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

GREENSTONE (M Ganeesh) jumped awkwardly.

METEOR GARDEN (S Ruzaini) was restrained at the start, then shifted abruptly towards the rail to gain a trailing position.

SATELLITE KING (M Zairi), HAPPY SIXTYSIX (S Sandana), FLAMING FIREHEART (App KC Wong), MISTER MIYAGI (S Anandan) and POLO BOY (App SU Lim) were all caught racing wide throughout the event.

The Stewards questioned Jockey M Ganeesh into the tactics that were adopted on GREENSTONE in particular why in the last 300M, he failed to continue his use of the whip as the gelding was improving its position. Jockey M Ganeesh stated that at this point, he had to gather his reins in an endeavour to shift outwards to gain a clear run and as a result, lost minimum momentum, however, once in the clear, the gelding ran home well. He also added that GREENSTONE may have suited further distance than today’s 1400M.

The Stewards were not fully satisfied with his explanation, however, took no action on this occasion given the circumstances. His explanation was noted for future reference.

RACE 6 (R429) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Upon jumping, LUCKY DAPPER (S Sandana) shifted outwards and as a result, SPIN FIRE (L Sofhan) was taken out onto SACRED KLASS (App T Krisna).

TOTALITY (F Yap) jumped awkwardly.

SPIN FIRE, LUCKY DAPPER, RED SAPPHIRE (Lou Ho) and D’GREAT EMINENCE (J Low) were all caught racing wide in the early and middle stages from wide barriers.

TOTALITY had a tendency to race ungenerously throughout the event.

Approaching the 450M, D’GREAT EMINENCE had to shift out over the heels of MAZANDARAN (S Anandan) in order to gain a clear run.

LUCKY DAPPER had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure approaching the 200M.

SPIN FIRE which was beaten 19¾ lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of DANCING TSURU, into the reasons why he appeared to lose some ground at approximately the 1000M mark. Jockey S Ruzaini stated that he had pressure from TAKEAIM (App A Zaimuddin) from his outside and as a result, had to check his horse and lost ground.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films, were of the opinion that approaching the 1000M, MOGAN’S PRIDE (HK Cheng) had a tendency to lay inwards resulting in TAKEAIM being taken inwards which placed DANCING TSURU and HAPPY EDDINGTON (J Shankar) in restricted racing room and as a result, DANCING TSURU lost some ground. It was also noted that DANCING TSURU ran home well into third position.

The Stewards could not blame any rider for this incident, however, Jockey HK Cheng was shown the official patrol films of the incident and reminded of his obligation to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

PERFECT ATTACK (D Chong) had a tendency to over-race in the early stages.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 5
SLTC, Saturday, 1 April 2017

GHOST HANA (App A Zaimuddin), SEA WORLD and THE OMEGA MAN (F Yap) were all caught racing wide throughout the event from wide barriers.

Approaching the 900M, GHOST EMPEROR (Lou Ho) had to be eased off the heels of FORTUNIQUE (L Sofhan) and shifted out to gain a clear run.

PERFECT PEARL (J Shankar) was held up for a clear run entering the front straight behind runners in front and had to be eased by its rider.

Approaching the 350M, CRAZY CLUB (App S Saddam) shifted out to obtain a clear run over the heels of MR ARMSTRONG (TK Barnabas).

Approaching the 300M, LISTEN (App S Zulfikri) shifted in several horses when ridden along with the whip and as a result, SEA WORLD had to be severely checked by its rider and JUSTICE WORLD (S Ruzaini) was inconvenienced.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Zulfikri, the rider of LISTEN, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer M Sukri, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 200M when being ridden forward with the whip, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of SEA WORLD (J Low) resulting in Jockey J Low having to severely check his mount. JUSTICE WORLD was also inconvenienced in this incident.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Zulfikri’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 3 April 2017 and to expire on 9 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:15pm).

Approaching the 150M, CRAZY CLUB (App S Saddam) had a tendency to lay outwards and as a result, MR ARMSTRONG had to be eased off that gelding’s heels. Jockey TK Barnabas, the rider of MR ARMSTRONG, was reprimanded for unnecessarily striking his horse forward of the shoulder.

CRESCENDO which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Shankar, the rider of JP SUMMER, into the reasons why he failed to ride his mount out with the required vigour from the 200M. He stated that he placed the gelding under pressure from the 500M but it failed to respond to his riding and after leaving the 200M, the horse was flat and in his opinion, he did not want to punish the horse.

The Stewards advised Jockey J Shankar that the minimum requirement that is expected by the Stewards is at least hands and heels unless he feels that there may have been something amiss with the gelding. The Stewards did not take any action on this occasion, however, reminded him of his obligations.

RACE 7 (R391) OPEN MAIDEN – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey C Goon, the rider of V FOR THAILAND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 800M, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of MAGIC RANGER (App S Saddam) which was taken in onto ALL SILVER (J Shankar) which had to be severely checked by its rider.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 8
SLTC, Saturday, 1 April 2017

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Goon’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 27 March 2017 and to expire on 8 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:30pm).

SATURDAY, 1 APRIL 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2017

Prior to the running of the first event, the Stewards called the Club Doctor for his opinion on a report submitted by Jockey J De Souza in relation to a course of medication taken by him over the last several days. The Club Doctor informed the Stewards that the medication given to Jockey J De Souza contained several prohibited substances and was concerned for his safety whilst mounted on a horse given some side effects from this type of medication.

The Stewards advised Jockey J De Souza that for this reason, he was stood down from fulfilling his riding engagements at today’s meeting and a clearance certificate must be tendered prior to riding trackwork and races.

……………………….

RACE 9 (R393) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

The Stewards questioned Jockey Lou Ho into the riding tactics that were adopted on ESPERANZA in particular in the home straight as in the opinion of the Stewards, Jockey Lou Ho failed to show sufficient vigour from the 400M as expected.

Jockey Lou Ho stated that racing to the 1000M, the gelding had a tendency to over-race and as a result, had to shift out to gain clear racing room and found himself 4-wide for the remainder part of the event and he believed that he placed the gelding under pressure but it failed to respond to his riding. Jockey Lou Ho agreed with the Stewards’ observations that he may have been able to show a bit more vigour than he did on this occasion.

The Stewards, after giving consideration to the run that ESPERANZA had throughout the event and given the track conditions, did not take any action against Jockey Lou Ho, however, informed him that the Stewards expected him to show far greater effort than he did on this occasion. A warning was issued.

……………………….

SATURDAY, 1 APRIL 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2017

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons why Mr Budin b. Sahamid, an employee of Trainer Anna Scott, and Mr Jefrizal b. Hamid, an employee of Trainer PS Kumaran, were situated behind the barriers prior to the running of Race 7 today. These 2 employees will be stood down from their respective duties until an inquiry into this matter is completed.
