STEWARDS’ REPORT – PERAK JULY MEETING 2022

DAY 2, SATURDAY – 9^th JULY 2022

STATE OF TRACK: GOOD

RACE 1 (R823) CLASS 5(B) – 1200m (lc) FJORD HANDICAP

ULURU which was up 20kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey AM Aizat to replace Jockey AK Lim, as the rider of GOLDEN ROOSTER as the latter encountered heavy highway traffic enroute to the Club.

Acting on a report from the Veterinary Surgeon that PENANG MAN (App R Nuqman) was lame near fore, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 2.12pm. PENANG MAN will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

SPEEDY SWALLOW (S Saddam) jumped awkwardly outwards and was slow into stride.

The saddle on ASIAN JET (CK Tan) commenced to slip to the off side at the 450M-mark, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Jockey CK Tan’s saddle continue to slip, resulting in him being dislodged on pulling-up. He was subsequently examined by the Club Medical Officer and was certified fit to resume riding.

App AR Aiman and Jockey KP Lim, the riders of PROVOCATEUR and ASIA respectively, both reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examination of PROVOCATEUR and ASIA revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of SMART MASTER (SU Lim) revealed that the gelding had returned broken-winded and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 2 (R824) CLASS 5(B) – 1200m (lc) HAFLINGER HANDICAP

LOYALTY’S ANGEL and SO BEAUTIFUL, both are course scratching. LOYALTY’S ANGEL had sustained bruised near fore fetlock whilst SO BEAUTIFUL has sustained a bruised near fore fetlock and tendon. Each will be required to pass veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Jockey AK Lim was fined the sum of RM500/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 107(10) when he was unable to make the declared weight on WASHINGTON. As there was no suitable rider available, the Panel of Stewards permitted App SN Shiva to replace Jockey AK Lim as the rider of WASHINGTON.

STRONG MAN (App R Nuqman) stumbled badly on jumping.

TILSWORTH MALI (AM Aizat) was squeezed out at the start by CHERISH (L De Souza) which jumped awkwardly inwards and WASHINGTON (App SN Shiva) which jumped awkwardly outwards.

LADY BLA BLA (HS Gill) over-raced in the early stages.

Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of TILSWORTH MALI reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of TILSWORTH MALI revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of STRONG MAN revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 3 (R825) CLASS 5(B) – 1400m (lc) SHETLAND HANDICAP

JJ STAR which was down 18kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

RAISE ME UP (SU Lim) was examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

MY FIRST MILLION (CK Tan) jumped awkwardly.

PARISBAS (App R Nuqman) over-raced in the early stages.

Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of YULONG DREAM reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of YULONG DREAM revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of MY FIRST MILLION revealed no obvious abnormality.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, Jockey CK Tan, the rider of MY FIRST MILLION, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) punishable under MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that his mount was given the best opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.

The details of the charge were that:-

after jumping awkwardly, he failed to make any attempt to put the horse into the race as instructed and sat quietly at the back of the field until the 450M-mark;

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey CK Tan’s guilty plea, his riding record and mitigating factors. Jockey CK Tan was disqualified from riding in races for a period of one (1) year, effective from today, 9^th July 2022 and to expire on 8^th July 2023, both dates inclusive. In addition, Jockey CK Tan was fined the sum of RM30,000/-. He was informed of his right of appeal (6.10pm).

RACE 4 (R826) CLASS 5(B) -1400m (lc) WELCH HANDICAP

Jockey AK Lim was fined the sum of RM500/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 107(10) when he was unable to make the declared weight on SILVER SIXTYSIX.

Acting on a report from the Veterinary Surgeon that SING EXPRESS (App SN Shiva) was lame off hind, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3.43pm. SING EXPRESS will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

MYSTICAL STAR (S Saddam) stumbled on jumping, being slow into stride.

QUEEN FORCE (CK Tan) was slow into stride.

At approximately the 1200M-mark, OVERSEER (S Salee) and SILVER SIXTYSIX (AM Aizat) brushed.

At approximately the 1100M-mark, OVERSEER had to steady when SNAGGLE PUSS (L De Souza) rolled inwards. Jockey L De Souza, the rider of SNAGGLE PUSS was shown the video of the incident and was warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of SILVER SIXTYSIX reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SILVER SIXTYSIX, which raced poorly, revealed no obvious abnormality and the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of TRINITY HONOR (SU Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 5 (R827) CLASS 4(B) – 1100m (sc) NEW FOREST HANDICAP

Emergency acceptors CITY OF DREAM and STAGE SHOW were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

GENERAL NIX (App AR Aiman) stumbled badly on jumping, rolling outwards, inconveniencing NO REGRETS (KP Lim).

COLOUR PAINT (App SN Shiva) jumped awkwardly inwards, inconveniencing IPOH DASH (S Saddam).

ASPEN (CK Tan) was slow into stride.

A post-race veterinary examination of CASTLE OCEAN (CC Foo) revealed that the gelding had returned broken-winded and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 6 (R828) CLASS 5 (B) – 1800m (lc) CONNEMARA HANDICAP

FIRST PASSTHEPOST, a course scratching as it had sustained bruised both fore cannon, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

NAPOLEON (L De Souza) jumped awkwardly outwards, inconveniencing STAR CHOICE (AK Lim).

Jockey HS Gill and App R Nuqman, the riders of SING DARCI and GALLANT BLACK respectively, both reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of SING DARCI and GALLANT BLACK revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SING DARCI also reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises.

APPEAL BY JOCKEY C GOON [CALVIN GOON TUCK LEE] AGAINST THE FINDING OF GUILT AND THE 3 MONTHS SUSPENSION IMPOSED BY THE PANEL OF STEWARDS UNDER MRA RULE 44(10) IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING AND HANDLING OF “LOOKS GOOD” IN RACE 2 (R518) – CLASS 5(A) – 1200M (LC) – VENUS HANDICAP – 3^rd DAY, SATURDAY, 30^th APRIL 2022 – PERAK TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2022.

The Appellate Panel of Stewards heard the above appeal today, Saturday, 9^th July 2022.

After hearing the evidence of Jockey C Goon and a video supplied by Jockey C Goon, his witness Jockey HS Gill, and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, and after reviewing the videos of the race, the Appellate Panel dismissed his appeal. Jockey C Goon’s three (3) months suspension will commence today, Saturday, 9^th July 2022 and to expire on Saturday, 8^th October 2022, both dates inclusive. His deposit is forfeited.
