SUPREME SUCCESS (SU Lim) was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

SHANGHAI CAPTAIN (App Z Syafifie) shifted in from the whip in the straight.

App R Nuqman and Jockey J Daniel, the riders of EKRAAR PHOENIX and MASTER JIANGMEN respectively, both reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of EKRAAR PHOENIX and MASTER JIANGMEN revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of SUPREME SUCCESS revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that TAIWAN CAPTAIN (A Suriya) returned having cast its off hind plate.

SOON YOU THINK (App Z Syafifie) jumped awkwardly, throwing its head up and was slow into stride.

JJ STAR (App A Nazir) was slow into stride.

Emergency acceptor YES BOSSY was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

NINGALOO (AK Lim) was slow into stride.

KING POWER (L De Souza) and SECRET AGENT (App A Nazir) raced wide in the early and middle stages, entering the home straight wide.

LUCKY STAR (App H Haikal) finished the race wide.

A post-race veterinary examination of SECRET AGENT revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 4 (R0343) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200m (lc) 1960 WHO KNOWS HANDICAP

GOLD SKY EXPRESS, a course scratching as it had wound injury on near hind tendon, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Trainer P Lee was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to remove the cross-nose band and special bit on BRANDENBURG within the stipulated time.

The Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MISS MICHELLE (App R Nuqman) at 2.36pm when the mare was unable to be boxed. MISS MICHELLE will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

LIM’S HOPEFULLY (Y Aify) jumped awkwardly and stumbled, losing some ground.

At approximately the 100M-mark, KIPEH (J Daniel) was racing tight between JAPAN CAPTAIN (App Z Syafifie) and BRANDENBURG (L De Souza) and then, KIPEH switched out over the heels of BRANDENBURG.

Prior to the ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Jockey J Daniel, the rider of KIPEH placed 2^ndagainst BRANDENBURG being declared the winner on grounds of alleged interference at about the 100M-mark. After considering all the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the Judges’ results stood.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S HOPEFULLY revealed no obvious abnormality.

TRAFALGAR, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised off fore tendon, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

CHIEF OF ARMY (KC Tham) jumped awkwardly.

Approaching the turn at the 800M-mark, DISCRETELY RED (AK Lim) rolled inwards slightly, pressuring LOOKS GOOD (App Z Syafifie) who in turn, carried FIREWORKS (M Lerner) inwards, resulting in BEIHAI TURBO (Y Aify) becoming crowded and having to steady. Jockey AK Lim, the rider of DISCRETELY RED was shown the video of the incident and he was warned to give sufficient room to runners on its inside under similar circumstances in future.

DISCRETELY RED and STARHARMONY (S Hafis) were obliged to race wide on the turn.

ONE MILLION (App H Haikal) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 7 (R0346) CLASS 4 (A) – 1100m (lc) 2024 JRA TROPHY

INHERIT, GIFTED and PEER GYNT were all course scratching. INHERIT had sustained swollen near fore cannon, GIFTED was sore back and PEER GYNT had sustained a bruised right knee. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

STORM TO WIN which was up 23kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

Trainer NM Selvan was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to remove the ear-muff on TORNADO PEGASUS within the stipulated time.

DR KARDO dislodged Jockey Y Aify enroute to the start. He was being attended by the Club Medical Officer and was sent to hospital for observations. DR KARDO was withdrawn at 3.57pm and the gelding will be required to pass one starting stall test (to be ridden unaided to the start) before being declared to race again.

At approximately the 1000M-mark, ARION SUCCESS (L De Souza) and STORM TO WIN (SU Lim) became crowded and had to steady when TORNADO PEGASUS (App A Azizi) rolled inwards. App A Azizi, the rider of TORNADO PEGASUS in the presence of his master Trainer NM Selvan was shown the video of the incident and was warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of MYSTERIOUS CAPTAIN (AM Aizat) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 8 (R0347) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400m (sc)1950 INDIAN HEATHER HANDICAP

Emergency acceptor FIRE AWAY was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

As there is no suitable jockey available, the Panel of Stewards permitted App P Haris to replace Jockey Y Aify as the rider of MAGIC THE ZHU.

ZAC ACE baulked repeatedly after the start. Jockey AM Aizat felt something amiss and dismounted. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. ZAC ACE will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) from the barrier before being declared to race again.

READY TO ROCK (App A Nazir) was slow into stride.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of GALAXY LAW reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of GALAXY LAW revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that MAGIC GENERAL (App R Nuqman) had bled and as such, the gelding will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of BIG MONKEY (KC Tham) revealed that the gelding had returned lame off fore and HARDCORE (App H Haikal) revealed no obvious abnormality. BIG MONKEY will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 9 (R0348) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400m (sc) SUNGEI WANG II HANDICAP

TRIPLE ONE STAR and POWER EXPRESS are both course scratching as they had sustained a bruised off fore fetlock and a bruised near hind fetlock respectively. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

ISLE OF SKY (AK Lim) was examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

Jockeys SU Lim and AK Lim, the riders of ADIRA PEGASUS and ISLE OF SKY respectively, both reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of ADIRA PEGASUS and ISLE OF SKY revealed no obvious abnormality. ADIRA PEGASUS which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that ADIRA PEGASUS returned having cast its off fore plate.

A post-race veterinary examination of MEWTWO (M Lerner) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 10 (R0349) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200m (sc) 1961 FROGGIE HANDICAP

NATUREISSPEAKING, YOU ARE SPECIAL and PURE PERFECTION are all course scratching. NATUREISSPEAKING had sustained a bruised near fore cannon, YOU ARE SPECIAL had sustained a bruised near fore sole whilst PURE PERFECTION had a bruised near fore tendon. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there is no suitable jockey available, the Panel of Stewards permitted App H Haikal to replace Jockey Y Aify as the rider of HEX MARK.

Approaching the 800M-mark, GOLDEN SHOW (App A Azizi) and NIMBUS COURAGE (App P Haris) brushed on a number of occasions. Shortly after this incident, JAZZ BAND (L De Souza) was crowded for galloping room and had to steady.

Approaching the 200M-mark, GOOD WARRIOR (AM Aizat) drifted out and finished the race wide.

ASIAN JET (App R Nuqman) and LEEDSTHEWAY (KC Tham) which both raced poorly, will each be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockeys AM Aizat and KC Tham, the rider of GOOD WARRIOR and LEEDSTHEWAY reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of GOOD WARRIOR, LEEDSTHEWAY and MY MONEY (SU Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.

Acting on veterinary advice that SUPREME JUSTICE (App H Haikal) was lame off fore, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1.42pm and the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet exam) before being declared to race again.

MAGICAL PARK (AM Aizat) was slow into stride.

At approximately the 1400M-mark, FIRST SUCCESS (How Yang) rolled inwards, resulting in PENANG GENERAL (S Ruzaini) becoming crowded and clipping its heels.

FIRST SUCCESS was hanging in, in the straight.

CIRCUIT STAR (AK Lim) shifted out from the whip in the later stages.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of SILVER JOY reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no obvious abnormality.

THE BOSS (KC Tham) finished the race wide.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of HARVEST reported that this mare could not handle the going.

SUNNY FIGHTER and BRISTOL DIAMOND, both course scratching as they had sustained a bruised off fore foot and a bruised off fore fetlock respectively, will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

USA CAPTAIN (App SN Shiva) was slow into stride.

In the concluding stages, LANKARAN (S Ruzaini) shifted in, making contact with SHANGHAI CAPTAIN (AM Aizat) shortly before the line. An objection was lodged by Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of SHANGHAI CAPTAIN, placed 2^nd against LANKARAN (S Ruzaini), being declared the winner on grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages. After considering all the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were satisfied that this incident had not affected the results of the race and as such, the objection was overruled and the Judge’s results stood.

At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of LANKARAN pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding LANKARAN at about the final 50M-mark till the winning post, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, resulting in SHANGHAI CAPTAIN (AM Aizat) having to check.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, disciplinary record and mitigating factors. Jockey S Ruzaini was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days, effective 25^th March 2024 and to expire on 7^th April 2024, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (5.10pm).

Post-race veterinary examinations of DISCRETELY RED (J Daniel) and HELLO MONDAY (KC Tham) revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that VAIN TYCOON (Y Aify) returned broken-winded and as such, the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

In the concluding stages, WINNING SMILE (J Daniel) was momentarily inconvenienced when racing tight between SAGE WARRIOR (App P Haris) on its inside and STYLE OF DRAGON (KP Lim) on its outside.

POWER EXPRESS (App H Haikal) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

GOLDEN HORSE and BALL AND CHAIN were both withdrawn due to a capacity field.

BRUTUS which was up 23kgs and STORM TO WIN which was down 16kgs in body weight since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and were passed fit to start.

CROWN GIFT (AK Lim) jumped awkwardly outwards, making contact with STRETCHY FOUR (App H Haikal).

LIMITLESS VENTURE (App P Haris) jumped awkwardly and was awkward for a number of strides thereafter.

STRETCHY FOUR and LIMITLESS VENTURE were slow into stride.

At approximately the 800M-mark, HAPPY THIRTYNINE (KP Lim) ran up to the heels of HARVEYWALLBANGER (S Ruzaini) and steadied.

Post-race veterinary examinations of BRUTUS (J Daniel) and STRETCHY FOUR revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey KP Lim, the rider of HAPPY THIRTYNINE was fined the sum of RM1,000/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 121(7) in that he returned 1kg over the weight that he weighed out.

PERAK TURF CLUB FEBRUARY RACE MEETING 2024 – RACE 1 (MRA0204) CLASS 5 (A)

At the conclusion of the above Inquiry today, Saturday, 23^rdMarch 2024, Jockey How Yang, the rider of SACRED GALAXY was warned that in future, he must make greater attempt to ride to instructions and furthermore, he was warned to ride all his mounts out in such a manner, so as to leave no room for query.

PERAK TURF CLUB FEBRUARY RACE MEETING 2024- RACE 5 (MRA 0208) ENRICH STAKE A 1300M (lc) – SUNDAY, 25^TH FEBRUARY 2024

At the conclusion of the above Inquiry today, Saturday, 23^rdMarch 2024, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of WAR DRAGON in the above race, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(7) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) to ensure that WAR DRAGON be ridden on its merits.

The particulars of the charge are:

In that upon jumping from the 1300M-mark, Jockey J De Souza immediately took hold of and restrained WAR DRAGON until approximately the 700M-mark, resulting in WAR DRAGON throwing its head up on several occasions, thereby losing momentum and he has thereby committed an offence under MRA Rule 44(7) and punishable under MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to ride WAR DRAGON on its merits.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s riding records and mitigating factors. He was disqualified from riding in races with immediate effect for a period one (1) year, effective from 23^rd March 2024 and to expire on 22^nd March 2025, both dates inclusive. In addition, he was fined the sum of RM30,000/-. He was advised of his right of appeal (12.05pm).

Trainer Lawson Moy, the trainer of WAR DRAGON which ran in the above race, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 35(5) in that he gave an extremely vague instructions of “to sit where comfortable” which may have resulted in Jockey J De Souza, failing to ride WAR DRAGON on its merits. Trainer Lawson Moy was fined the sum of RM5,000/- and he was advised of his right of appeal (11.35am).

At approximately the 700M-mark, AMORE AMORE (App SN Shiva) was momentarily inconvenienced when RULE THE WORLD (KC Tham) rolled inwards.

Shortly before straightening, STRONG N POWERFUL (S Anandan) dipped.

Passing the 500M-mark, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of THOUSAND MILE EYE had his whip struck off from his hand by Jockey S Anandan, the rider of STRONG N POWERFUL.

A post-race veterinary examination of STRONG N POWERFUL revealed no obvious abnormality.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, Trainer HY Cheng, the trainer of THOUSAND MILE EYE pleaded guilty to a contravention of MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(2)(b) for negligence, in that he had failed to ensure that THOUSAND MILE EYE, which finished third placing was presented to the post-race samples collections area immediately after the running of this race, as required. He was fined a sum of RM2,000/- and was informed of his right of appeal (3.35pm).

A post-race veterinary examination of BANGKOK BOY revealed that the gelding had returned broken-winded and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of DISCRETELY RED revealed no obvious abnormality.

Trainer R Lines was questioned with regards to the improved performance of HARVEST today. He explained that HARVEST was normally very slow but today, it jumped better and was not as bad as previously. This in his opinion may have accounted for the improved performance. His explanations were noted and his attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

CLARTON TREASURE and STAR TALENT, both are course scratching. CLARTON TREASURE had sustained a bruised near fore cannon, whilst STAR TALENT had sustained a bruised near fore suspensory ligament. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

STRETCHY FOUR (AM Aizat) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was certified fit to race.

Over the concluding stages, STRETCHY FOUR attempted to savage SUSPICIOUS MIND (S Anandan).

Prior to the ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Jockey S Anandan, the rider of SUSPICIOUS MIND, placed 2^nd against STRETCHY FOUR (AM Aizat), being declared the winner on grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages. After considering all the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were satisfied that this incident had not affected the results of the race and as such, confirmed the decision of Judges. The objection was overruled and the results stood.

A post-race veterinary examination of SPIDERMAN (App SN Shiva) revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that LAGO DE COMO (SU Lim) collapsed after the running of this race and was humanely euthanized.

The Appellate Panel of Stewards resumed the hearing of the above appeal today, Sunday, 25^th February 2024.

After hearing the submissions of Apprentice Jockey Z Syafifie and his master Trainer K Coetzee and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, and after due consideration, the Appellate Board, acting in terms of their powers under MRA Rule 168(1)(c), decided to substitute the original charge and finding of a contravention of MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a), which carried a mandatory one year disqualification imposed by the Inquiry Panel, to a contravention of MRA Rule 44(10).

Apprentice Jockey Z Syafifie was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months, backdated to 4^th November 2023 and to expire on 3^rd March 2024 (both dates inclusive). In addition, he was fined the sum of RM10,000/- (Malaysian Ringgit Ten Thousand Only) and his deposit is refunded.

Acting on veterinary advice that SHENG PROISIR had sustained bruised both fore cannon, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 12.59pm. The gelding will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SOON YOU THINK (App P Haris) jumped awkwardly and stumbled on jumping.

Shortly after the start, SOON YOU THINK stumbled, as a result of JJ STAR (App S Shazmin) shifting in. At a subsequent inquiry, App S Shazmin, the rider of JJ STAR in the presence of his master Trainer EP Tan pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA 44(9)(a)(ii), in that he shifted in when insufficiently clear of SOON YOU THINK, which clipped its heels and stumbled.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration App S Shazmin’s riding record and mitigating factors. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days, effective from Monday, 5^th February 2024 and to expire on Monday, 12^th February 2024, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (1.40pm).

Approaching the 1000M-mark, LINCOLN MOONLIGHT (HS Gill) broke down, fracturing its off hind leg, dislodging Jockey HS Gill. MAJESTIC WAY which was following, was inconvenienced, dislodging App R Nuqman. Both riders were exempted from weighing-in and were sent to hospital for observations.

QIJI DIAMOND (App A Azizi) shifted in away from the whip and was further inconvenienced from BLAZING KID (App N Shahronnizam), which was also shifting in away from the whip in the straight.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that LINCOLN MOONLIGHT had fractured its off hind cannon and as such, the gelding was humanely euthanized. MAJESTIC WAY returned having cast its near fore plate.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey KP Lim, the rider of AUSSIE EAGLE pleaded guilty to a charge for incompetent riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(b)(iii) in that having jumped slightly awkwardly, he took hold of his mount and continued to steady, resulting in his mount getting further back than necessary.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey KP Lim’s riding record and mitigating factors. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, effective from Monday, 5^th February 2024 and to expire on Monday, 4^th March 2024, both dates inclusive. PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2024, SATURDAY, 27^TH JANUARY 2024 – RACE 1 (R098)

The Stewards concluded an investigation into POWER EXPRESS’s (App SN Shiva) bridle becoming adrift during the race. It was established that the bridle of POWER EXPRESS flipped over when the horse put its head down as the start was effected, resulting in App SN Shiva swinging on the reins throughout the race, placing him at a severe disadvantage. The Stewards examined the bridle and it was not defective, however Trainer K Coetzee was advised to ensure that the gears on his runners are properly-fitted to avoid similar situation in future. No further action was taken.

RACE 2 (R0033) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200m (sc)

Trainer P Lee was fined a total of RM500/- for scratching TILSWORTH MALI (W326), without an official veterinary certificate under Clause 3.09 of the Perak Turf Club Official Programme.

DESIRE SKY was humanely euthanized due to injuries sustained during an accident which occurred while the horse was being transported to PRTC to race.

LEESTOWN EXPRESS (KC Tham) and ADIRA PEGASUS (App A Azizi) were slow into stride.

ROCK ME EASY (S Salee) was pulling hard in the early and middle stages.

LEESTOWN EXPRESS and BITCOIN KING (J Daniel) were obliged to race wide on the turn.

Post-race veterinary examinations of LEESTOWN EXPRESS and BITCOIN KING revealed that both these horses returned having bled. Each will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will each be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Trainer K Coetzee was questioned with regards to the improved performance of USA CAPTAIN (App SN Shiva) today. He explained that the mare does not act on a yielding and soft track and appreciated the going today. His explanations were noted.

NAGAS KING and LUCKY STAR, both are course scratching. NAGAS KING had sustained bruised off fore fetlock whilst LUCKY STAR had sustained swollen off fore cannon. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

ZAC ACE (S Ruzaini) had a tendency to lay in, in the later stages. Thereafter, the breast-check broke during the running. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of ZAC ACE was warned that he must ensure that his equipment is in good conditions, failing which a penalty may be imposed on him.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of GENERAL NIX reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of GENERAL NIX revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that ZHU CAPTAIN (App SN Shiva) had bled and as such, the gelding will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

INTROIT and CIRCUIT STAR, both are course scratching. INTROIT had sustained sore back whilst CIRCUIT STAR had sustained a bruised near fore sole. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

MAGICAL PARK which was up 30kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

Due to a miscommunication between Trainer Bonny Ng and Jockey S Hafis, the Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey AK Lim to replace the latter as the rider of MYSTICAL STAR.

MYSTICAL STAR (AK Lim) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to start.

LEEDSTHEWAY (KC Tham) was pulling hard and had to be steadied in the early stages.

Passing the 200M-mark, BIG MONKEY (App N Shahronnizam) rolled inwards. App Shahronnizam was shown the video of this incident and was warned to make a greater attempt to keep his mount on a straight course in future.

MAGICAL PARK, a course scratching as it had sustained sole bruised near fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there was no suitable rider available to the connections, the Panel of Stewards acceded to a request from the trainer to withdraw BITCOIN KING at 2.08pm, when Jockey How Yang was medically stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

I’M THE MAN (S Ruzaini) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockey J Daniel, the rider of ROSES FOR ME reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ROSES FOR ME revealed that the mare had returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Trainer K Coetzee was questioned with regards to the improved performance of ULURU (App P Haris) today. He explained that ULURU raced on a hard track at its previous start as today, raced on yielding track which it prefers. His attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry into the running and handling of LOOKS GOOD today, evidence were taken from Jockey S Saddam and Trainer KF Wong, the rider and the trainer of LOOKS GOOD respectively. Jockey S Saddam, the rider of LOOKS GOOD was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that LOOKS GOOD was given a full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.

The particulars of the charge are that:

Having had a good jump and obtaining a mid-field position as instructed, he failed to follow his instructions from the 800M-mark to maintain and thereafter to improve his position as instructed, resulting in his mount being in the last position at the 600M-mark;
From the 600M-mark to the finish, he failed to ride LOOKS GOOD with sufficient vigour and determination when his mount was running on strongly.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Saddam’s riding records and mitigating factors. He was disqualified from riding in races for a period one (1) year, with immediate effect, i.e. from 6^th January 2024 and to expire on 5^th January 2025, both dates inclusive. In addition, he was fined the sum of RM30,000/-. He was advised of his right of appeal (6.35pm).

ZAC ACE (App A Azizi) shifted in from the whip in the concluding stages and had to steady outwards off the hind quarters of SPIDERMAN to continue its run.

A post-race veterinary examination of STAR GLORY revealed that the gelding returned with respiratory distress and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Trainer P Lee was questioned with regards to the improved performance of SPIDERMAN today. He stated that SPIDERMAN enjoyed the track today and its distance. These in his opinion had accounted for its improved performance. His attention was drawn of his obligations under MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

LISBOA STAR which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

HARVEYWALLBANGER was withdrawn by order of the Panel of Stewards at 2.28pm, as the gelding’s status for Japanese B Encephalitis is not current. Trainer R Lines was fined RM1,000/- in terms of MRA Regulation 20.2(b) as read with MRA Regulation 20.6.

SPEEDY SWALLOW (J Chuah) which dislodged its rider on the way to the start and galloped a considerable distance, was withdrawn by order of the Panel of Stewards at 3.43pm on veterinary advice. The race was delayed five (5) minutes due to this incident. SPEEDY SWALLOW will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test (to be ridden unaided to the barrier) before being declared to race again.

BELLA VELOCE (AK Lim) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to start and thereafter, was loaded riderless. As such, BELLA VELOCE will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

PONTIANAK (S Anandan) reared on jumping and was awkward.

BELLA VELOCE was slow into stride.

A post-race veterinary examination of BELLA VELOCE revealed that the mare had returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of PROVOCATEUR reported that his mount dipped on a several occasions during the running. A post-race veterinary examination of PROVOCATEUR revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of BOSSKU reported that this horse was not striding out freely and could not handle the going. A post-race veterinary examination of BOSSKU revealed no obvious abnormality.

As such, YOUARETHEBEST which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of INHERIT (H Haikal) and MICHIKAWA (S Saddam) revealed no obvious abnormality.

A slight altercation happened in the Jockeys’ Room today between Jockey J Daniel and App P Haris. The Panel of Stewards investigated the matter and decided to take no further actions, other than to warn App P Haris and Jockey J Daniel to act in a more professional manner in future.

GENERAL REPORT – PRTC

PERAK NOVEMBER RACE MEETING 2023 – RACE 7 (R1202) FREE SPIRIT HANDICAP CLASS 5(A) – 1200M(sc) – SUNDAY, 5^TH NOVEMBER 2023

An Inquiry was opened on the Friday, 5^th January 2024 into the running and handling of LIM’S HOPEFULLY (HK Cheng). After hearing and considering further evidence on the 6^th January 2024 from Jockey HK Cheng’s witnesses, i.e. Jockeys S Ruzaini (STARDICE), AK Lim (AUTUMN BLISS) and A Suriya (ARROGATE ACHIEVER) and re-viewing the videos, the Panel of Stewards re-evaluated and deliberated on the matter.

At the conclusion of the above Inquiry today, Saturday, 6^th January 2024, the Panel of Stewards found Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of LIM’S HOPEFULLY guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that LIM’S HOPEFULLY was given a full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.

The particulars of the charge are:

He took hold of his mount from the 1000M to 700M when he had the opportunity to follow STARDICE which would have been reasonable to do so;
He took hold of and checked his mount severely between 600M to 400M and in so doing, resulting in LIM’S HOPEFULLY losing considerable ground.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey HK Cheng’s riding records and mitigating factors. He was disqualified from riding in races for a period one (1) year, effective from 6^th January 2024 and to expire on 5^th January 2025, both dates inclusive. In addition, he was fined the sum of RM30,000/- He was advised of his right of appeal (11.55am).

At a subsequent investigation, Trainer HY Cheng, the trainer of LIM’S HOPEFULLY tendered his apology for his misconduct whilst talking to the Chief Stipendiary Steward on the phone. The Panel of Stewards accepted his apology, however he was warned that a repetition may lead to a penalty being imposed.

Acting on an incident report from PNTC, Trainer F Maynard was warned for ignoring a security guard’s instruction at the Penang Turf Club on 30^th December 2023. He was further warned that a repetition may lead to a penalty being imposed.

As Trainer R Lines was not on course today, he will be questioned regarding the improved performance of STAY THE COURSE (S Ruzaini) at a date to be fixed.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Trainer K Coetzee, the trainer of KRATOS and App P Haris, the rider of KRATOS over the concluding stages. Having noted both their explanations, the Stewards were of the opinion that App P Haris should have made a greater attempt to prevent KRATOS from shifting out and he was reminded to ride all his mounts out in a manner so as to leave no room for query.

Prior to the ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Jockey S Saddam, the rider of 2^nd placed horse MICHIKAWA against SUSPICIOUS MIND (App R Nuqman), being declared the winner on grounds of alleged interference in the straight. After considering all the evidence and reviewing the video, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stands.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of HEARTS OF GOLD was questioned with regards to his ride in the early part of the race. He stated that after getting a good jump, he was crowded and thereafter, was unable to improve his position and further stated that his mount was not striding out. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination of HEARTS OF GOLD revealed no apparent abnormality. His explanations were noted.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of VAIN TYCOON pleaded guilty to a charge for a contravention of MRA Rule 44(6) for failing to ride his mount to the end of the race.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey AM Aizat’s guilty plea, disciplinary record and mitigating factors. He was fined the sum of RM3,000/- (Malaysian Ringgit: Three Thousand only) and was advised of his right of appeal (6.50pm).

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FIRST SUCCESS (App SN Shiva) returned having cast its near fore plate.

When questioned with regards to the improved performance of WHY NOT, Trainer WC Lim stated that he is of the opinion that due to a weaker field today and that the gelding had been working well, may have contributed to its improved performance.

Acting on veterinary advice that GAIN ECLIPSE was lame off hind, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.29pm and the mare will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Acting on veterinary advice that SUNNY STAR (App SN Shiva) was lame near fore, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.58pm and the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

VICTOREM (HS Gill) jumped awkwardly.

Approaching the 800M-mark, NATUREISSPEAKING (KC Tham) clipped the heels of ROCK ME EASY (L De Souza) and stumbled. Jockey L De Souza, the rider of ROCK ME EASY was shown the video of the incident and after consideration, the Stewards took no further action, other than warning Jockey L De Souze that he must exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

The Senior Veterinary Surgeon of Perak Turf Club reported that the follow-up post- race veterinary examination which was conducted at Selangor Turf Club on STRONG N BEST (K378), which ran in Race 4 on Sunday, 5^th November 2023 during the Perak November Race Meeting 2023 revealed that the gelding returned broken-winded and as such, the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/Vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of TIGRESS revealed no obvious abnormality, whilst BELLA VELOCE (AM Aizat) returned lame off fore. As such, BELLA VELOCE will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

NOVA FALCON (App H Haikal) was slow into stride.

At approximately the 800M-mark, Jockey J Low felt something amiss with GALAXY LAW which duck outwards sharply and at approximately the 700M-mark, still feeling something amiss, Jockey J Low eased his mount up and dismounted. A post-race veterinary examination of GALAXY LAW revealed that the gelding had bled and as such, will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again. Jockey J Low was exempted from weighing-in and he was subsequently examined by the Club Medical Officer and was certified fit to continue riding for the remainder of the day.

THE BOSS (App SN Shiva) trialed the field and a post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled. As such, THE BOSS will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of MASTER RYKER (App Clyde Leck) revealed that the gelding had returned lame near fore whilst STYLE OF DRAGON (KP Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality. MASTER RYKER will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

As Jockey MM Firdaus was not on course to fulfil his engagement, as there was no suitable jockey available, the Panel of Stewards permitted App R Nuqman to replace him as the rider of GOLDEN SHOW. The matter will be investigated at a date to be fixed.

Acting on veterinary advice that LAGI BOLEH (App R Nuqman) had sustained a swollen left neck (haematoma) due to pre-race blood collection, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.06pm. The colt will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there were no suitable riders available, the Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of VICTOREM at 4.19pm and THAI BAHT at 5.09pm.
