RACE 1 (R434) CLASS 5(B) – 1000m (sc) BALTIC BROWN HANDICAP
The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey J Low to replace Jockey V Espindola when the encounter transport problem enroute to the Club.
I’M THE MAN (J Low) was slow into stride and thereafter, showed no early pace despite being urged.
Shortly after the start, MA BAO BAO (R Rueven) had to steady when tightened for room between SUNTZU (AK Lim) and HERO CHAMPION (S Anandan).
RANT AND RAVE (App WW Cheah) had to steady shortly after the start when TOP TURF (L De Souza) rolled in slightly.
App WW Cheah, the rider of RANT AND RAVE reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of RANT AND RAVE revealed no obvious abnormality.
Jockey J Low, the rider of I’M THE MAN was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding today. He stated that the gelding did not handle the soft going today and showed no response when ridden out and was disappointing. His explanations were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of I’M THE MAN revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 2 (R435) CLASS 5 (A) – 1000m (sc) BIANCO ANTICO HANDICAP
PURPLE RAIN, a course scratching as it had sustained bruised near and off fore fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
BEST BAY which was down 15kgs in body weight respectively since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
SPEEDY DEMON (HK Cheng) jumped awkwardly.
Passing the 800M-mark, SPEEDY DEMON had to steady when DESIRE SKY (App S Shazmin) rolled in. App S Shazmin, the rider of DESIRE SKY in the presence of his master Trainer EP Tan was shown the video of this incident and was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Passing the 250M-mark, DESIRE SKY drifted out under pressure and carried BEST BAY (J Low) out onto YOU ARE GENIUS (AK Lim), resulting in SPEEDY DEMON which was following, had to steady. App S Shazmin, the rider of DESIRE SKY in the presence of his master, Trainer EP Tan was shown the video of the incident and was warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
THE SWAN (S Anandan) and LOYALTY’S ANGEL (S Saddam) brushed passing the 150M-mark.
Jockey R Rueven, the rider of CASTLE OCEAN reported that his mount was not striding out freely and was making abnormal respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of CASLTE OCEAN revealed that the gelding had returned broken-winded and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that YOU ARE GENIUS had bled and as such, the gelding will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

RACE 3 (R436) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200m (sc) BLACK PEARL HANDICAP
The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey J Low to replace M Ewe as the rider of MULTIBLUE SHARK when the latter was certified unwell.
SUPREME JUSTICE (S Saddam) was examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.
CHOCANTE (CK Khaw) which was fractious in the stall, backed out from its gate, was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start. Thereafter, CHOCANTE proved to be difficult to be re-boxed. To avoid unnecessary delay, the Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 3.21pm and will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.
ROSES FOR ME (HS Gill) and I’M SMART GREY (App WW Cheah) were slow into stride.
The saddle on I’M SMART GREY slipped back during the running, placing it at a disadvantage.
Post-race veterinary examinations of GOLDEN QUEEN (S Anandan), ROSES FOR ME and I’M SMART GREY revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 4 (R437) ENRICH STAKES A (SW) – 1200m (sc) ABSOLUTE GALAXY STAKES
YOU ROKK, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near fore cannon, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
RELAU STAR (S Saddam) was examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.
NOT USUAL PRINCE (R Rueven) was slow into stride.
GRAND CROSS (HS Gill) raced keenly and was difficult to settle in the early and middle stages.
STRONG N POWERFUL (CK Khaw) shifted out under pressure and finished the race wide.
Jockey R Rueven, the rider of NOT USUAL PRINCE reported that his mount could not handle the going today and was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of NOT USUAL PRINCE revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 5 (R438) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400m (sc) VOLGA BLUE HANDICAP
HEARTS OF GOLD which was up 24kgs in body weight respectively since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
HEARTS OF GOLD (S Anandan), LUCKY SIXTYSIX (R Rueven), INTROIT (J Low) and METAGROSS (App S Shazmin) were examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and were passed fit to start.
APOLLO ROCK (CK Khaw) jumped awkwardly.
Jockey S Saddam, the rider of LUCK HAPPY and App S Shazmin, the rider of METAGROSS, in the presence of his master Trainer EP Tan, were both shown the video of their rides over the concluding stages. Both the riders were warned against the use of their whip when their mounts were already out of contention.
Jockey R Rueven, the rider of LUCKY SIXTYSIX reported that his mount could not handle the going today and App S Shazmin, the rider of METAGROSS reported that his mount was not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of LUCKY SIXTY SIX revealed no obvious abnormality and METAGROSS returned lame both fore.
Post-race veterinary examinations of APOLLO ROCK revealed no obvious abnormality and INTROIT revealed that the gelding had returned lame near hind. INTROIT and METAGROSS will each be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Approaching the 250M-mark, SECOND CHANCE (R Rueven) switched out over the heels of SING DARCI (CK Khaw) which was laying in to obtain a clear running.
Jockey AK Lim, the rider of QUEEN FORCE reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of QUEEN FORCE revealed no obvious abnormality.
Post-race veterinary examinations of KYO (L De Souza) revealed no obvious abnormality and FIRST SUCCESS (J Low) returned lame off fore. As such, FIRST SUCCESS will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

GENERAL REPORT:
PERAK APRIL MEETING 2023, 2nd DAY, SATURDAY, 15TH APRIL 2023
RACE 4 (R407) CLASS 4(B) – 1300M(lc) CALLISTO HANDICAP
The Panel of Stewards concluded an Inquiry at the Perak Turf Club today, Saturday, 22nd April 2023 into the running and handling of TAUBOSS in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of TAUBOSS and Trainer SY Lim, the trainer of TAUBOSS.
After considering all the evidence and reviewing the videos, Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of TAUBOSS was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) in that whilst riding TAUBOSS in the above race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that TAUBOSS was given full opportunity of winning or of obtaining the best possible placing.
The particulars of the charge are that:

He failed to make sufficient effort to jump TAUBOSS on terms with the field, resulting in TAUBOSS missing the jump and losing considerable ground at the start;

From about the 1000M-mark to the 600M-mark, he did not make an attempt to improve to a midfield position as per his riding instruction when there was opportunity to do so;
-
From about the 600M-mark to the 400M-mark, he unnecessarily restrained TAUBOSS when there was an opportunity to improve his position, which was unreasonable to do so;
-
From about the 300M-mark, he failed to ride TAUBOSS with sufficient vigor and determination when his mount was running on strongly.
In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into account Jockey SS Vanan’s disciplinary records and mitigating factors. Jockey SS Vanan was disqualified from riding in races for a period of one (1) year, with immediate effect, i.e. 22nd April 2023 and to expire 21st April 2024, both dates inclusive. In addition, Jockey SS Vanan was fined the sum of RM30,000/-. He was advised of his right of appeal (1.30pm)
POST-RACE ANALYSIS (EQUINE):
8th APRIL 2023 – PERAK APRIL MEETING 2023
The report dated 20th April 2023 (V23/056) from the Chief Analyst of Usains Biomics Laboratory stated that 30 coded urine and 30 sets of coded blood samples from the above- mentioned race meeting were received on 8th April 2023, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
