SUPREME JUSTICE (SU Lim) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to start.

EKRAAR PHOENIX (J Daniel) jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride.

GOLDEN LIGHTNING (AK Lim) raced wide on the turn, entering the home straight wide.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of MULTIBLUE SHARK reported that he felt something amiss with his mount at the running.  A post-race veterinary examination of this gelding revealed no obvious abnormality and it was impounded.

A post-race veterinary examination of SIR ELTON (App SN Shiva) revealed no obvious abnormality. 

Trainer R Lines was questioned with regards to the improved performance of KING OF GLORY (S Saddam) today.   He stated that in his opinion, the distance today was more favorable for the gelding, coupled with a weaker field.   His explanations were noted, however his attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

SOON YOU THINK which was up 19kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

BLACK TAIPAN (S Ruzaini) and DREAMS CAN BE REAL (AK Lim) were examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and were passed fit to start.

THE JEWELLER (How Yang) and BLUE EYED BOY (S Saddam) were slow into stride.

At approximately the 1400M-mark, INTROIT (App P Haris) was inconvenienced and had to be steadied, when BULL RUN (J Daniel) rolled in, resulting in THE JEWELLER which was following, having to steady off its heels.

App SN Shiva, the rider of SOON YOU THINK was shown the video of his ride in the straight.   He was warned against the practice of using his whip when his mount is clearly out of contention.

Jockey How Yang, the rider of THE JEWELLER reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of THE JEWELLER revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of TRIPLE ONE STAR (KP Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that BULL RUN returned having cast its near hind plate.

CANDY RAIN, CHERISH and RAISE YOUR GLASS, all are course scratching. CANDY RAIN had sustained bruised near fore foot. CHERISH had sustained sole bruised near fore, whilst RAISE YOUR GLASS had sustained a bruised near fore fetlock, Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

TRAFALGAR (KP Lim) and BEIHAI TURBO (J Daniel) were slow into stride.

GOLDEN CUP (S Ruzaini) was hanging out in the straight.

Approaching the 400M-mark, KIPEH (AK Lim) was inconvenienced when PURE PERFECTION (SU Lim) rolled out.

RACE 4 (R016)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1300m (lc)     

MAGICAL PARK, a course scratching as it had sustained sole bruised near fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there was no suitable rider available to the connections, the Panel of Stewards acceded to a request from the trainer to withdraw BITCOIN KING at 2.08pm, when Jockey How Yang was medically stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

I’M THE MAN (S Ruzaini) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockey J Daniel, the rider of ROSES FOR ME reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of ROSES FOR ME revealed that the mare had returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Trainer K Coetzee was questioned with regards to the improved performance of ULURU (App P Haris) today.   He explained that ULURU raced on a hard track at its previous start as today, raced on yielding track which it prefers.     His attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry into the running and handling of LOOKS GOOD today, evidence were taken from Jockey S Saddam and Trainer KF Wong, the rider and the trainer of LOOKS GOOD respectively.  Jockey S Saddam, the rider of LOOKS GOOD was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that LOOKS  GOOD was given a full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.

The particulars of the charge are that:

  • Having had a good jump and obtaining a mid-field position as instructed, he failed to follow his instructions from the 800M-mark to maintain and thereafter to improve his position as instructed, resulting in his mount being in the last position at the 600M-mark;

  • From the 600M-mark to the finish, he failed to ride LOOKS GOOD with sufficient vigour and determination when his mount was running on strongly.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Saddam’s riding records and mitigating factors.   He was disqualified from riding in races for a period one (1) year, with immediate effect, i.e. from 6th January 2024 and to expire on 5th January 2025, both dates inclusive.  In addition, he was fined the sum of RM30,000/-.   He was advised of his right of appeal (6.35pm).

As there was no suitable rider available, the Panel of Stewards permitted App A Azizi to replace Jockey How Yang as the rider of ZAC ACE, when the latter was medically stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

SPIDERMAN (KC Tham) jumped awkwardly.

STAR GLORY (J Daniel) was slow into stride.

OCEAN LAW (S Ruzaini) was hanging out in the straight.

ZAC ACE (App A Azizi) shifted in from the whip in the concluding stages and had to steady outwards off the hind quarters of SPIDERMAN to continue its run.

A post-race veterinary examination of STAR GLORY revealed that the gelding returned with respiratory distress and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Trainer P Lee was questioned with regards to the improved performance of SPIDERMAN today.   He stated that SPIDERMAN enjoyed the track today and its distance.    These in his opinion had accounted for its improved performance.   His attention was drawn of his obligations under MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

RACE 6 (R018)         CLASS 5(A)  –1100m (sc)      

LISBOA STAR which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

HARVEYWALLBANGER was withdrawn by order of the Panel of Stewards at 2.28pm, as the gelding’s status for Japanese B Encephalitis is not current.   Trainer R Lines was fined RM1,000/- in terms of MRA Regulation 20.2(b) as read with MRA Regulation 20.6.

SPEEDY SWALLOW (J Chuah) which dislodged its rider on the way to the start and galloped a considerable distance, was withdrawn by order of the Panel of Stewards at 3.43pm on veterinary advice.   The race was delayed five (5) minutes due to this incident.  SPEEDY SWALLOW will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test (to be ridden unaided to the barrier) before being declared to race again.

BELLA VELOCE (AK Lim) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to start and thereafter, was loaded riderless.    As such, BELLA VELOCE will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

PONTIANAK (S Anandan) reared on jumping and was awkward.

BELLA VELOCE was slow into stride.

A post-race veterinary examination of BELLA VELOCE revealed that the mare had returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

DESIRE SKY, a course scratching as it had sustained injury on off fore heel bulb, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there was no suitable rider available to the connections, the Panel of Stewards acceded to a request from the trainer to withdraw USA CAPTAIN at 2.08pm, when Jockey How Yang was medically stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

Acting on veterinary advice that WINTERFELL (AK Lim) was lame near fore, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4.16pm and the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet exam) before being declared to race again.

BOSSKU (S Ruzaini) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of PROVOCATEUR reported that his mount dipped on a several occasions during the running.  A post-race veterinary examination of PROVOCATEUR revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of BOSSKU reported that this horse was not striding out freely and could not handle the going.   A post-race veterinary examination of BOSSKU revealed no obvious abnormality.

Trainer F Maynard would be questioned with regards to the improved performance of LUCKY THIRTYNINE (KC Tham).

DISCRETELY RED,  a course scratching as it had sustained sole bruised off fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

As there was no suitable rider available, the Panel of Stewards permitted App A Azizi to replace Jockey How Yang as the rider of YOUARETHEBEST.

FIRE AWAY (AK Lim) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to start.

INHERIT (H Haikal) was slow into stride.

COLONEL CHIEF (J Daniel) jumped awkwardly.

App A Azizi, the rider of YOUARETHEBEST reported that this horse is making abnormal respiratory noises and a post-race veterinary examination also revealed that the gelding had returned broken-winded.  As such, YOUARETHEBEST which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of INHERIT (H Haikal) and MICHIKAWA (S Saddam) revealed no obvious abnormality. 

A slight altercation happened in the Jockeys’ Room today between Jockey J Daniel and App P Haris.   The Panel of Stewards investigated the matter and decided to take no further actions, other than to warn App P Haris and Jockey J Daniel to act in a more professional manner in future.

GENERAL REPORT – PRTC

PERAK NOVEMBER RACE MEETING 2023 – RACE 7 (R1202) FREE SPIRIT HANDICAP CLASS 5(A) – 1200M(sc) – SUNDAY, 5TH NOVEMBER 2023

An Inquiry was opened on the Friday, 5th January 2024 into the running and handling of LIM’S HOPEFULLY (HK Cheng).  After hearing and considering further evidence on the 6th January 2024 from Jockey HK Cheng’s witnesses, i.e. Jockeys S Ruzaini (STARDICE), AK Lim (AUTUMN BLISS) and A Suriya (ARROGATE ACHIEVER) and re-viewing the videos, the Panel of Stewards re-evaluated and deliberated on the matter. 

At the conclusion of the above Inquiry today, Saturday, 6th January 2024, the Panel of Stewards found Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of LIM’S HOPEFULLY guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that LIM’S HOPEFULLY was given a full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.

The particulars of the charge are:

  • He took hold of his mount from the 1000M to 700M when he had the opportunity to follow STARDICE which would have been reasonable to do so;

  • He took hold of and checked his mount severely between 600M to 400M and in so doing, resulting in LIM’S HOPEFULLY losing considerable ground.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey HK Cheng’s riding records and mitigating factors.   He was disqualified from riding in races for a period one (1) year, effective from 6th January 2024 and to expire on 5th January 2025, both dates inclusive.  In addition, he was fined the sum of RM30,000/-  He was advised of his right of appeal (11.55am).


At a subsequent investigation, Trainer HY Cheng, the trainer of LIM’S HOPEFULLY tendered his apology for his misconduct whilst talking to the Chief Stipendiary Steward on the phone. The Panel of Stewards accepted his apology, however he was warned that a repetition may lead to a penalty being imposed.


GENERAL REPORT – PNTC

Acting on an incident report from PNTC, Trainer F Maynard was warned for ignoring a security guard’s instruction at the Penang Turf Club on 30th December 2023.    He was further warned that a repetition may lead to a penalty being imposed.
