RACE 1 (R1415) CLASS 5(B) – 1400m(lc)    BELVIDERE RIDGE CHAFF HANDICAP

JETSTAR EAGLE (HK Cheng) was slow to begin.

GLORY AGE (App J Daniel) had to be steadied passing the 800M to avoid the heels of GET THE LOTSKI (KC Wong) which rolled in.

LION CITY GOLD (R Shafiq) was difficult to settle in the early and middle stages of the race and as a result, Jockey R Shafiq elected to let the mare stride forward.

Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of GRAND SHOW reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of GRAND SHOW revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of GLORY AGE revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 2 (R1416)      CLASS 5(A) – 1400m(lc)       MITAVITE HANDICAP

BUTCH CASSIDY, GOOD TASTE and MR DREYFUSS, all course scratching as they had sustained bruised near fore cannon, bruised right eye and bruised off fore fetlock respectively, will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

LUCK SUCCESS (Z Khairil) jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride.

CHERISH (J Low) was slow to begin.

The saddle on QUEEN FORCE (App J Daniel) slipped backwards at about the 400M, placing him at a disadvantage.

Passing the 75M, ELITE ROCKET (C Goon) rolled out and as a consequence, took QUEEN FORCE wider on the track.

Jockey J Low, the rider of CHERISH reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of CHERISH revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of ALASAMO (App S Rosmizan) revealed that the gelding returned with respiratory distress and NATION THEATRE (AK Lim) returned lame off fore.  Both these geldings will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) each before being declared to race again.

NAPOLEON, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near fore sole, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

JEFFREY (Z Khairil) stood when the gates were released and was slow to begin.

ARTEMISTER (App P Mogun) had to be steadied and lost its position racing to the 800M, when EMPIRE BAY (HK Cheng)  rolled out and at the same time, SING DARCI (HS Gill) rolled in.

App S Saddam, the rider of BALL AND CHAIN dropped his whip at about the 400M and he was warned that a repetition may lead to a penalty being imposed.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Trainer S Shanmugam into the improved performance of BALL AND CHAIN today.   Trainer S Shanmugam explained that the gelding is better-suited by the going today and the extra distance, as against its last start.  His explanations were noted.

Post-race veterinary examinations of GOLD COAST CAPTAIN (KC Wong), JEFFREY and RACING MAN (Y Aify) revealed no obvious abnormality and ARTEMISTER returned with respiratory distress.   As such, ARTEMISTER will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

OUR RIVER DANCER, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised left hip, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

DOCTOR GINGER and DICAPRIO, which were both up18kgs in body weight since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

POWERFUL STAR (KC Wong) jumped away awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start, when DICAPRIO (M Yusri) shifted out.

ASIAN JET (App R Lingarajan) had to be steadied shortly after the start.

EASY LOVER (App SN Shiva) showed no early pace, despite being urged and thereafter, raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Trainer PK Leong into the improved performance of DON’T FORGET THIS (R Rueven) today.   He could offer no explanation other than the gelding is better-suited by the going today and also the distance of 1000M.  His explanations were noted.

Jockey CK Tan, the rider of PEACH BOWL reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of PEACH BOWL revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of FLYING SHADOW (SU Lim), HEAVENLY GIFT (Z Khairil), POWERFUL STAR, ASIAN JET and DICAPRIO  revealed no obvious abnormality.

SHREDDER (S Salee) was slow into stride.

INVICTUS WARRIOR (KC Wong) had to be steadied racing to the 1300M, when bumped by D’GREAT LOVE (App L De Souza) which was taken in by OSCAR ECLIPSE (J Low) due to NOT USUAL PRINCE (HS Gill) shifting in.  Jockey HS Gill, the rider of NOT USUAL PRINCE was shown the video of the incident and advised to exercise greater care under similar circumstances in future.

The breastcheck on INVICTUS WARRIOR broke passing the 1200M and as a consequence, the saddle slipped back, placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of SHREDDER reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of SHREDDER revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Jockey SU Lim, the rider of INDOMITABLE SPEED in the presence of Trainer Evert van Breukelen, into his ride.  Trainer Evert van Breukelen explained that his instructions were to be midfield and in his opinion, INDOMITABLE SPEED is better-suited in firmer going and longer distance.  Jockey SU Lim explained that after the incident at the 1300M, he was unable to carry out his instructions and passing the 800M, he came back and shifted in to avoid being caught wide and that in the straight, INDOMITABLE SPEED had a tendency to shift ground outwards.  He also explained that the gelding only responded to his whip-riding fairly.  After considering all evidence and reviewing the video, the Panel of Stewards advised Jockey SU Lim that he must ride all his mounts so as to leave no room for query.  Trainer Evert van Breukelen’s explanations were noted.

Emergency acceptor OK KID was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

SUN LION which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

GOLDEN SWORD (App P Haris) was slow to begin.

App S Hafis, the rider of SILVER WIND lost the use of his off side irons for a short distance on jumping away.

ASPREY (App CK Khaw) brushed the outside barrier gate on jumping away.

Jockey R Rueven, the rider of CELERITAS reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of CELERITAS revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of RELAU STAR (App S Saddam), GOLDEN SWORD, SUN LION (SU Lim) and ASPREY revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that SILVER WIND returned having cast its off fore plate.

EQUINE NUTRITION AUSTRALASIA HANDICAP

The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey R Rueven to replace Jockey S Muniandy as the rider of RUN THE DAY, as the latter was certified unwell.

PACHELBEL’S CANON (Z Khairil) was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and passed fit to start.

PACHELBEL’S CANON which was fractious in the barrier, jumped away awkwardly and threw its head about shortly after the start.

DISCRETELY RED (App S Rosmizan) and PENTAGON (CK Tan) were both slow into stride.

PENTAGON was held up for clear running from the 150M to 100M.

The saddle on DEADLINE DAY (App P Mogun) slipped backwards during the running.

Post-race veterinary examinations of NOVA RANGER (Y Aify) and TOTALITY (AK Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RUSSELL THE CROWE (R Shafiq) and ASTRA (R Rueven) jumped away awkwardly.

LUCK HAPPY (App R Lingarajan) was slow to begin and thereafter, showed no early pace despite being urged.

D’GREAT SPEED (KC Wong) had to be steadied passing the 1100M to avoid the heels of ASTRA and for some distance thereafter, raced greenly.

RUSSELL THE CROWE raced wide from the 700M until entering the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT SPEED revealed no obvious abnormality.

GENERAL REPORT – PRTC

APPEAL BY APP R RUWAIDY AGAINST THE SEVERITY OF THE RM20,000/- FINE IMPOSED BY THE PANEL OF STEWARDS UNDER MRA RULE 44(10) IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING AND HANDLING OF “REWARDING SMILE” IN RACE 7 (R1039), CLASS 5(B) – 1200M(sc) – 1st  DAY, SATURDAY, 17th AUGUST 2019 – PERAK AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Appellate Panel of Stewards heard the above appeal on Tuesday, 5th November 2019.   

After hearing submissions from App R Ruwaidy, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Mr. C Robert and the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward, Mr. Philip Anderson,  the Appellate Panel dismissed the appeal, however, the fine of RM20,000/- was reduced to RM10,000/- and App R Ruwaidy’s deposit forfeited.

PENANG TURF CLUB OCTOBER/NOVEMBER MEETING 2019

The report dated 7th November 2019 (V19/138) from the Chief Analyst of USains Biomics Laboratory stated that 26 bottles of coded urine samples and 28 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 29th October 2019 for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations.  No prohibited substances were detected.
