PERAK MAY MEETING 2017 – 2nd DAY, SATURDAY, 20th MAY 2017
STATE OF TRACK: Good

RACE 1 (R644) CLASS 5 – 1200m (lc) – CAPTAIN OBVIOUS HANDICAP
CHINESE SILHOUETTE, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near fore
knee, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
PEGASUS GENIUS (M Yusri) hesitated and was slow to begin.
At the start, LUCK TREASURE (J Chuah) had to be steadied when DRAGON WALK (J
Low) jumped awkwardly inwards and HAPPY AMIGO (App KC Wong) jumped awkwardly outwards.
UNCLE GLORY (S Anandan) was trapped wide on the turn and entered the straight wide.
From the 500M, PEGASUS GENIUS had a tendency to hang in and had to be
straightened on a number of occasions.
Passing the 200M, ZAC GALLANT (S Sandana) shifted outwards over the heels of
LEE’S MELODY (SS Vanan) to obtain clear running and passing the 100M, had to shift
outwards again over the heels of DRAGON WALK for a clear run.
Passing the 150M, GREAT GERONIMO (CK Tan) laid in under the whip.
Post-race veterinary examinations of UNCLE GLORY and LEE’S MELODY revealed no
obvious abnormality.
A post-race veterinary examination of PEGASUS GENIUS revealed that the gelding had
returned with respiratory distress and had cast its off fore plate. PEGASUS GENIUS will
be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that TAVAN BOGD (F Yap) had returned lame
near fore and as such, the gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being
declared to race again.
When questioned regarding his ride in the straight over the last 200M, Jockey S Sandana,
the rider of ZAC GALLANT stated that gelding was not fast enough to take the run on
the inside of LEE’S MELODY and he had to shift out over the heels of LEE’S MELODY
for clear running. Shortly thereafter, when he anticipated to take a run on the inside of
DRAGON WALK, the gap closed and he had to shift out again over the heels of
DRAGAON WALK for a clear run. His explanation was noted.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of GREAT GERONIMO,
Assistant Trainer Mr. Mohamed Morli bin Baharu stated that the gelding had resumed
from a spell and had pulled-up well from its last start on the 14th May 2017. His
explanation was noted and was reminded of his obligations under MRA Rule 117(3)
regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

RACE 2 (R645) CLASS 5 –1200m (lc) – GRIN HANDICAP
FOX TREASURE, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near fore foot, will be
required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
MAL’S DAD (WK Yan) and PRINCE ISLANDER (S Sandana) were both slow into
stride and showed no early pace despite being urged.
BLAZING STEED (CK Tan) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped BULL AND
BEAR (J Low) heavily onto SILENT DREAMS (M Yusri) and CUTTING TORCH,
resulting in CUTTING TORCH (Y Aify) becoming unbalanced. Shortly thereafter,
BLAZING STEED dipped.
Passing the 1000M, BULL AND BEAR steadied inwards to avoid the heels of BAIL
OUT (App AM Aizat) which was laying in. THE PROFESSIONAL (App S Saddam)
which was following, had to steady when BLAZING STEED shifted out in this incident.
From the 400M, BULL AND BEAR had a tendency to hang out under the whip, resulting
in Jockey J Low having to change the whip to his right to straighten his mount.
Passing the 400M, BAIL OUT had to shift out over the heels of SILENT DREAMS for clear running.
Post-race veterinary examinations of MAL’S DAD and PRINCE ISLANDER revealed no
obvious abnormality, whereas BLAZING STEED had returned with a cut to its near hind.
BLAZING STEED will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being
declared to race again.

RACE 3 (R646) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200m (lc) – MY DIAMOND STAKES [WEIGHT-FOR-AGE]
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that MASTER OF SUCCESS suffered from a
colic and subsequently died, despite treatment.
Shortly after the start, SUPREME STAR (TM Wan) had to steady when SANDY’S
PRIDE (App T Krisna) ducked out sharply and D’GREAT SPIRIT (J Low) shifted
inwards. SUPREME STAR lost ground in this incident.
SANDY’S PRIDE and NAPOLEON (App KC Wong) both raced greenly throughout the race.
Post-race veterinary examinations of ARCHAEOLOGY (App S Rosmizan) and
HANDSOME BOSS (J Chuah) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 4 (R647) CLASS 4 – 1100m (str) – KIM BAY HANDICAP
BIG TSUNAMI, which was up 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by
the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
D’GREAT VULTURE (App KC Wong) was slow to begin.
SING ENERGY (HS Gill) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet)
before being declared to race again.
Jockey CK Tan, the rider of MESSI reported that his mount showed no interest in the
race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that no obvious abnormality.
Post-race veterinary examinations of BIG TSUNAMI (App S Rosmizan) and SING
ENERGY revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 5 (R648) CLASS 4 – 1100m (str) – SECRETARIAT PRINCE HANDICAP
YOU ARE GENIUS (M Yusri) jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride.
CLASSIC KING (App J Daniel) steadied when the gates were released and was slow to
begin.
Post-race veterinary examinations of SAM THE MAN (J Low), CLIP THE TICKET
(App SU Lim) and WINGED FOOT (App KC Wong) revealed no obvious abnormality.
Prior to the declaration of the ‘All Clear’, the Racing Stewards and the Stipendiary
Stewards reviewed the start of this race. It was established when the Starter released the
field, Barrier 1, SAM THE MAN’s gate (J Low) did not open simultaneously with the
remainder of the field and as a consequence, SAM THE MAN was unable to jump with
the field and hit the barrier resulting in SAM THE MAN stumbling, almost dislodging
Jockey J Low in the incident. After considering the evidence from Jockey J Low and
Trainer PS Kumaran, the trainer of SAM THE MAN, the Racing Stewards declared SAM
THE MAN a non-starter under MRA Rule 115 and all bets on SAM THE MAN was
refunded.
When questioned, the Starter confirmed that there had been a malfunction of Barrier 1.
As the necessary maintenance were unable to be carried out in time, Barrier 1 would be
vacant for the remainder of today’s races.

RACE 6 (R649) CLASS 5 – 1800m (sc) – PERFECT PINS HANDICAP
KING FAALCON, a course scratching as it had swollen off fore pastern, will be required
to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
Approaching the 1600M, KIWI MAESTRO (TM Wan) which was pulling, laid in and
brushed BALBOA (HS Gill) and as a consequence, brushed FOREVER BEST (App KC
Wong). Shortly after this incident, BALBOA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of
KIWI MAESTRO which rolled in.
BALBOA raced wide from the 1500M until entering the backstraight.
KIWI MAESTRO raced wide from the 800M until entering the straight.
Passing the 200M, PHILIP (J Low) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FLYING
AHEAD (App W Faizal) which laid out and shifted in for a clear running.
Post-race veterinary examinations of BALBOA and TIME TO SHINE (M Yusri) revealed
no obvious abnormality.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FOREVER BEST (App KC Wong) had bled
and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)
(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a Bleeder’s test before being declared to
race again.

RACE 7 (R650) CLASS 4 – 1400m (sc) – WISEMAN HANDICAP
MAZANDARAN, a course scratching as it was lame off fore, will be required to pass a
test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.
The start of this race was delayed for 5 minutes to commence at 5.10pm.
NOTHING TO LOSE (TM Wan) jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
Post-race veterinary examinations of GET THE LOTSKI (App M Sathiaa), V RESPECT
U (App KC Wong) and JOYFUL (App SU Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that BIG BIT COIN (SS Vanan) had bled and will
be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and
thereafter, will be required to pass a Bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.
When questioned regarding the change of tactics today, as opposed to its last start, Jockey
SS Vanan, the rider of BIG BIT COIN stated that his instructions were to race in midfield
or back, however after getting a good jump, he was unable to find cover and elected
to stride to the front. His explanation was noted.

APPEAL BY JOCKEY J DE SOUZA AGAINST THE 3 MONTHS’ SUSPENSION
IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS UNDER MRA RULE 136(3)(b)
IN THAT A URINE SAMPLE CODED J-6186 SUBMITTED BY HIM ON 18TH
MARCH 2017 AT THE PENANG TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017 UPON
ANALYSIS REVEALED THE PRESENCE OF “EPHEDRINE’ WHICH IS A
PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE UNDER THE MRA RULES
The PNTC Racing Stewards on Thursday, 18th May 2017 heard the above Appeal at the
Penang Turf Club. Evidence was taken from Jockey J De Souza who was assisted by Ms
Magdalene Tan May Ling at his request, and the Penang Turf Club Medical Officer, Dr.
Kalahvathy d/o Tangga Muthu.
After considering submissions by Jockey J De Souza, the Acting Chief Stipendiary
Steward and the Club Medical Officer, the Racing Stewards dismissed Jockey J De
Souza’s Appeal against the 3 months’ suspension from riding in races. As Jockey J De
Souza had not been granted a Stay of Sentence, his 3 months’ suspension which took
effect from Saturday, 6th May 2017 will expire on Saturday, 5th August 2017. His deposit
was forfeited.

RACE 3 (R617) CLASS 5 – 1100m(str) – SPEEDY WIND HANDICAP
PERAK MAY MEETING – 1ST DAY, SUNDAY, 14th MAY 2017
After reviewing the video footage and taking into account all the evidence adduced, the
Stewards concluded the Inquiry into App AM Aizat’s ride on HENNESSY DRAGON
today, Saturday, 20th May 2017. The Stewards advised App AM Aizat in the presence of
his master, Trainer F Maynard that he should ride out all his mounts in a manner so as to
leave no room for query.

RACE 8 (R622) CLASS 4 – 1200m(sc) – GOOD SIGHT HANDICAP
PERAK MAY MEETING – 1ST DAY, SUNDAY, 14th MAY 2017
The Stewards questioned Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of BIG BIT COIN as to his vigour
in the straight. Jockey SS Vanan stated that BIG BIT COIN had not much early pace and
in the straight, he had to shift inwards for a run. The gelding managed to finish the race
well. His explanation was noted, however, he was advised to ride all his mounts in a
manner so as to leave no room for query and use his full vigour on every occasions.
