The saddle on STAR CHOICE (App WK Lee) slipped backwards during the running.

Racing to the 350M, WHIRLWIND (App KC Wong) shifted out and bumped THE JEUNEYMAN (Y Aify), unbalancing both horses.

Q NINE MAGIC (App S Saddam) shifted in away from the whip over the final 250M.

Prior to the all ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Trainer K Coetzee, the trainer of Q NINE MAGIC, placed 2nd against WHIRLWIND  being declared the winner on grounds of alleged interference at about the 350M.  After viewing the films and considering all the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race.  The objection was overruled and the Judges’ results stood.

At the conclusion, App KC Wong, the rider of WHIRLWIND in the presence of his acting master, Trainer P Lee pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at the 350M, he shifted out when insufficiently clear of THE JEUNEYMAN and bumped that gelding and as a consequence, Q NINE MAGIC which was following, had to be steadied and shifted in to obtain a clear running.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration App KC Wong’s guilty plea and mitigating factors.  App KC Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days.   Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Panel of Stewards deferred the commencement of App KC Wong’s suspension to take effect from Monday, 15th January 2018 and to expire on Sunday, 21st January 2018, both dates inclusive.  He was advised of his right of appeal (5.30pm).

Post-race veterinary examinations of DROGBA (Z Khairil), STAR CHOICE and LUCK SUCCESS revealed no obvious abnormality.

GENERAL REPORT – SLTC

RACE 7 (R1562) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 17 DECEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on Tuesday, 2nd January 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of PURPLE RAIN LADY (S Sandana) which raced well back in the field before making significant progress in the last 300M to finish sixth. They interviewed Jockey S Sandana and Trainer KF Wong, the rider and trainer of PURPLE RAIN LADY respectively.

Trainer KF Wong stated that he expected PURPLE RAIN LADY to be well suited by the 1400M distance of the race. However, this was the first time she had raced on a “Good” surface and all her previous form had been on “Yielding” or “Soft” going. She was also racing in a higher grade than her previous start, which she won. He explained that the step up in class and the firmer track had exposed the filly’s lack of pace.

Jockey S Sandana stated that PURPLE RAIN LADY had never been able to match the speed of the rest of the field until her rivals started to slow in the last 300M. He felt that although the filly had appeared to finish the race off strongly, it was in fact the case that she had maintained her own pace and passed tiring horses. When questioned on his intermittent use of the whip, he argued that PURPLE RAIN LADY responded well to hands and heels riding. However, he admitted that the filly had surprised him with her late rally on this occasion, the first time he had ridden her in a race.

Having heard their evidence, the Stewards warned Jockey S Sandana that in future he should ride all his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query. With regard to Trainer KF Wong’s opinion on the unsuitability of the “Good” track for PURPLE RAIN LADY, the Stewards reminded him of his obligations under MRA Rule 35(7) to report any matters which may have affected the performance of his horses in a race.
