It has been a long road to get WANTED PAYOUT to the races. And now that he is on the scene, the gelding is rapidly repaying the faith of his connections.

Ridden by Clyde Leck, the son of Proisir completed a hattrick with he captured the Max Two Stakes over 1400m at Sungei Besi here today, the final of racing at the track this season. 

WANTED PAYOUT landed in Malaysia as an unraced two-year-old in 2020 and it took 11 months before he had his first trail last year. After one more trial, he took a long break before he reappeared with few more trials earlier this year before he ran his first race last August.

His best showing in his first four runs were two fourth-place finishes but the way he came home when fourth to GOLDEN SPRINT in an Open novice event over 1400m in October caught the attention of racegoers.

WANTED PAYOUT was subsequently sent out odds-on favourite when he lined up in a Class 5 – 1400m handicap last month and he duly obliged with an easy win. A week later, he made it back-to-backs wins with a 6 3/4-length win over 1275m on the No 2 track. 

Although meeting much stronger opponents today, the four-year-old showed managed to stave off the challenge of XAR, a first-up winner last month to win by half a length.

“My instructions were to ride a forward race because the track is a little chopped up,” said Clyde. “I actually wanted to sit second or third but seeing that no one wanted to take the initiative to lead, I decided to lead.”

“I slowed the pace down to get keep him steady and comfortable. In the straight I wasn’t worried about the other horses because I could feel that he has plenty left in the tank.

“I have won three times on him and each time he kept improving. I am looking forward to how far he can go. I am confident that he has a bright future.”
