Following a four year hiatus from the Malaysian racing calendar, the 2000m G1 Perak Derby returns for the first time this Sunday since D’Great Timing posted back to back Derby victories in 2019 and 2020.

The Bulk of entries comes from Selangor Based Trainers.

Frank Maynard has won the Derby three times and will saddle up three runners, including last start winner.

LEOPARD ECLIPSE (App A Nazir),

SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (AK Lim) and

BLACK THORN (SU Lim), which raced in the Derby back in 2020.

HY Cheng’s GOLDEN KING with R Shafiq in the saddle is nearing a group victory however after finishing runner up in both 2000m group one races at the other turf clubs in December last year.

Former Singapore performer, Lawson Moy trained TRUMPY will be ridden by visiting French jockey M Lerner is one of only two candidates to score over 2000m and looks well placed following his fast finishing 2nd behind LEOPARD ECLIPSE over 1600m.

TELLER from the stables of BT Lim will be ridden by App R Nuqman is coming off some moderate form lines but the 2022 G1 Piala Emas winner has scored three times over the staying trip and is a likely improver while RAGNAR  ridden by AM Aizat and trained by CC Ooi, placed in the G1 Penang Gold Cup last year, is bred to stay and could provide the value.

Also in the field is the Peter Lee trained Golden Ocean ridden by App H Haikal , Hearts Of Gold, trained by William Looi and ridden by Brazilian L De Souza & Arthur Pegasus, trained by N Selvan and ridden by Ap A Azizi.
