KUALA LUMPUR:  Jul 15, 2023

Apprentice Nuqman Faris Rozi resumed riding after a month-long suspension with a vengeance when he landed three winners at Sungei Besi here today.

This season’s leading rider returned to the saddle to find his lead hardly threatened at 35 wins and he wasted no time to pull further ahead of his nearest rival Rueven Ravindra who had a win of his own in the final race today.

Nuqman kicked off his afternoon when he booted home TARZAN in a Class 5 – 1500m handicap. The veteran gelding has now won nine times in 77 starts.
Nuqman quickly followed up on the next race to score on CHER. It was the mare’s second win in her last three starts and fifth win overall.
Nuqman’s third win came on MIRACLE in a Class 4 – 1200m sprint. Winner of five races on Singapore, the Stratum gelding has now won twice in seven runs since moving to Malaysia.

It’s interesting to note that Nuqman was partnering all his three winners for the first time today. He is nine winners clear at the summit.

“I didn’t expect to ride three winners on my first day back, especially after my long break,” said Nuqman. “The horses just went well for me.”

There also joy for jockey Oscar Chavez who returned to the country after a lapse of three years to score on RUNNING SPIRIT in second last event today.

Chavez was seen at the very best when he won a riding duel with Laercio De Souza on QIJI LOVE before winning by a short head. It was the second win in 11 runs for the Australian gelding.

“It’s good to be back,” said Chavez.

On his winner, he said: “We were squeezed on the first bend and thereafter I reserved him and didn’t make my move so early. That helped him to win in the end.”
