High five for jockey Andre Da Silva
Andre Luiz Da Silva was at his brilliant best at Sungai Besi today, booting home five winners – including the main event of the afternoon on Sincefoon Hero – from seven rides.
Going into the weekend’s races, the Da Silva was tied with fellow Brazilian jockey Laercio De Souza at 18 winners apiece but led the table with more second placings (26 to 15).
Three times champion jockey in Brazil, Da Silva dazzled local racegoers when he finished “in the money” in all his 10 rides in mid 2024, winning thrice.
Da Silva, who has also ridden by success in Mauritius and Macau, then came back for the long term last October and despite not emulating his earlier strike rate, he did win the Penang Gold Cup on Lucky Magic to wrap up the 2024 season.
Da Silva has been picking up the momentum in recent weeks and was unbeatable in the first four races on the No. 2 track today.
In the opening event, Da Silva brought Charity Gold with a late run to beat Golden Eightyone by a neck. It was the former Macau galloper’s first win in five starts in the country.
Unplaced in Australia, the Churchill gelding managed one win in two seasons in Macau.

Da Silva then took Wins Eight to an all-the-way win in the next event for champion trainer Jason Ong.
Winner of one race in Singapore, the Street Boss has now picked up two wins and a second in four outings in Malaysia.
Da Silva followed up with a well-judged race to score on Thunder Star whom punters sent of a raging favourite (RM6) in the Class 5A – 1020m sprint.
The Fighting Sun gelding had two wins and two seconds in his first four runs in the country after coming over from Singapore with two wins at Kranji. He bounced back quickly after finishing unplaced when well-backed last time out.
Da Silva then drove Northern Star through between runners to spring a surprise in the Class 4B – 1020m handicap with the winner paying RM98 for his first win since notching a double at the tailend of 2023. The Written Tycoon gelding has now five wins overall.
Dal Silva’s fifth win came in the main event of the day on Sincefoon Hero (see separate report).
“I am very happy to win five races today including four in a row,” said Da Silva.
“It is good to be back on top. I used to have a good strike rate so I want to keep up my form.
“I just want to thank the owners and trainers who trrust me every weekend, especially my sponsor (trainer) HY Cheng (Han Yong) who brought me all the way to Malaysia.”
