KUALA LUMPUR:  Oct 21, 2023

D’GREAT DUCHESS has been a great money-spinner for Siva Kumar a/l D.Subramaniam since making her debut in 2019, a year after her trainer was granted his MRA licence.

Every season, the daughter of El Roca managed to pick up a win or two for Siva and her owners.

Two months ago, D’GREAT DUCHESS brought her winning tally to double figures when successful in a Class 4 – 1200m sprint.

After two unplaced runs following her promotion to Class 3, the seven-year-old bounced back to winning form with an upset win in the Class 3 – 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.
Partnered for the first time by Lim Kar Ping, D’GREAT DUCHESS settled off the pace on the inside of horses in midfield. At the top of the straight, Lim was looking for a run behind a wall of five horses headed by ZANJABEEL.

The leader soon came under pressure and VULCAN hit the front at the 400m with the favourite ANSU for company. While the pair were battling it out 250m from home, D’GREAT DUCHESS found a split between horses and went after the leaders.

D’GREAT DUCHESS shot to the front 100m out and drew away to win by one and three-quarter lengths from STRONG N POWERFUL who charged home late on the rails. Third was FLYING DURUMI.

D’GREAT DUCHESS paid RM88 for a win.

“She is an honest horse,” said Lim. “I think there will be more wins to come from her.”

D’GREAT DUCHESS was originally purchased by trainer Stephen Cook for A$15,000 as a 2YO at the Horses In Training Sale but has done all her racing for Siva.

“I am happy that she has won 11 times for me,” said Siva. “She has the potential to run in a trophy or cup race in the future.

She won on a yielding track today but she is much better in good going.”
