KUALA LUMPUR:  Feb 2, 2022

It’s now five wins from five starts for AWESOME STORM since he started his campaign in Malaysia, and the son of Phenomenons has won these races with a combined margins of 22 1/4 lengths.

In his last start  which was his first real test according to his trainer Simon Dunderdale – the Australian gelding set a new course record time of 1 min. 12.4 secs. in winning a Supreme A event over 1250m on the short course on this track just over two weeks ago.

AWESOME STORM backed up that performance today when he again ran his rivals off their feet in the Year Of The Tiger Stakes, also a Supreme A event but over 1200m.

The four-year-old covered the distance in a time of 1 min. 8.7 secs, which was just 0.4 second off the course record first set by CAPTAIN OBVIOUS in 2011 and equalled by both FORSCA ECLIPSE and WAR DRAGON in 2019.

AWESOME STORM was never really tested when he cruised home by 3 1/4 lengths, the same margin as in his last win.

“He has stepped up to yet another level,” said jockey Jose De Souza who has partnered him in his last four runs.

“He switched off behind the leaders very nicely and has shown great class by winning unchallenged.”

“It was an Awesome win. He just keeps on improving,” said Dunderdale.

AWESOME STORM landed in Malaysia with a record of one win (at Wodonga) from five runs at three in Australia.
