STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

PENANG AUGUST MEETING 2023  

SUNDAY,  20^TH AUGUST 2023

RACE 1 (MRA 0895) CLASS 5 (B) – 1600M 

 Jockey R Rueven, the rider of MERRY BELL, reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of MERRY BELL revealed no obvious abnormality. 

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, Jockey R Rueven, the rider of MERRY BELL, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that after having a good jump and taking the lead, he unnecessarily sat against his mount from approximately the 1400M-mark to the 1200M-mark, thereby making insufficient effort to ride MERRY BELL to the instruction given by the Trainer.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey R Rueven’s points of mitigation and his record.  Jockey R Rueven was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from Monday, 21^st August 2023 and to expire on Monday, 20^th November 2023, both days inclusive.   In addition, he was fined a sum of RM10,000/- (Malaysian Ringgit Ten Thousand).  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6.09 pm).

RACE 1 (R0883)       Class 5B – 1175M (Track II)

On inquiry, App A Suriya (NORTHERN KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip shortly after the start thereby allowing it to shift in, crowding M ELEVEN onto ASIAN TIGER and LET’S COME ON BABY.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Suriya’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 28 August 2023 and to expire on 9 September 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
