Vincent’s Star shines brightest in Class 1 sprint

Former Ipoh based galloper Vincent’s Star humbled several big names to notch his first win in the Class 1 – 1100m handicap at Sungai Besi today.
The Epaulette galloper notched six wins in Ipoh when trained by Ismadi Ismail, with the last victory coming in an Enrich Stakes race over 1200m in August last year.
Immediately after the run, Vincent’s Star was despatched to Kuala Lumpur to join Wayne Lim. With that the former jockey-turned-trainer Ismadi bowed out of the scene.
At Sungai Besi, Vincent’s Star found himself outchassed by the likes of Antipodean, Banker’s Smile, Yes Man, Mega Ace and Big Hearted – he was unplaced in his last five starts behind these winners.
But Lim could take some encouragement from Vincent’s Star last outing when he finished fourth to Big Hearted in a Supreme B race over 1300m.
Vincent’s Star found himself up against Pacific Vampire and Mega Ace in the revamped Class 1 sprint over 1100m today.
But Pacific Vampire and Mega Ace did themselves no favour when they fought each other and set a sizzling pace in front.
Arigato tussled with Mega Ace for the early lead but gave up and allowed Mega Ace to stride to the front. Mega Ace was soon joined by Pacific Vampire and the pair broke away to lead by four lengths from Bransom at the 600m. Arigato was fourth and Vincent’s Star fifth of seven runners at this stage.

Mega Ace and Pacific Vampire was well clear of Bransom and Arigato going into the straight. Vincent’s Star was still fifth.
Mega Ace broke away from Pacific Vampire at the 200m with Vincent’s Star looking for a run between Bransom and Arigato.
Vincent’s Star broke from the chasing pack to go after Mega Ace at the 100m. Just then Filial Dragon also came into the picture.
Vincent’s Star collared Mega Ace 50m out to win by 1-1/4 lengths. Filial Dragon beat Mega Ace for second.
“I have faith that he (Vincent’s Star) will run a good race today,” said Lim.
“The horse has been improving with every run, and I’m happy to see him performing well in KL.”
“He (Vincent’s Star) wasn’t as fit in the last few runs,” said jockey Lukman Mohamed who partnered him in his last three starts.
“He was very fit this time so I thought we had a good chance of winning.”
A winner of two races in South Australia before coming to Malaysia, Vincent’s Star paid RM83 a win.
