SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Course B

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon), Dr James Yu & Dr Edwards Samuel.

RACE 1 (R1068) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

RED SAPPHIRE (App L De Souza) and GLORY KID (App A Suriya) were both slow into stride.

NASI LEMAK (S Salee) was slow to begin.

TALISMAN (Y Aify) was obliged to race wide from the 1000M.

In the early stages, EMPEROR WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) raced fiercely.

Near the 500M, POLO GAGA (B Pinheiro) commenced to lay out, bumping MUSANG KING (AK Lim) near the 350M. POLO GAGA continued to shift outwards brushing MUSANG KING. Jockey B Pinheiro was warned that he must straighten his mount when they shift inwards in future.

RED SAPPPHIRE was impeded when attempting a marginal run on the inside of READY TO STRIKE (KC Wong) at the 250M and then bumped with READY TO STRIKE at the 50M.

A post-race veterinary examination of ELITE GUSTAVO (App CK Khaw) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned, Jockey S Salee stated that NASI LEMAK was sitting back on the stalls and he appealed to the Starter. NASI LEMAK had then laid outwards for several strides after jumping. NASI LEMAK will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

An inquiry into the improved performance of MUSANG KING (AK Lim) will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 2 (R1069) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

Acting on veterinary advice that YES BOSSY (Y Aify) had sustained multiple injuries to its both hind legs, the gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

After jumping awkwardly, UNION JAC (HS Gill) raced wide in the early stages.

ELF’S DREAM (J De Souza) jumped with its head in the air and was then tightened, and after being blocked in the straight, was carried wide when CHAMPION FACE (App CK Khaw) shifted out. App CK Khaw was warned that he must straighten more quickly in future.

At the 800M, CHAMPION FACE rolled in causing D’GREAT WALL (AK Lim) to be steadied.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of ELF’S DREAM, stated that he had been forced to race further back than he wished after jumping awkwardly and crowded at the start. He also explained that although in a rearward position on straightening, he was impeded when carried wide in the straight.

RACE 3 (R1070) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

SOON SEEKER (Y Aify) and BORN A FIGHTER (KC Wong) brushed near the 60M.

SOON SEEKER was slow into stride.

In the early stages, SMART MASTER (SU Lim) was obliged to race wide.

SCORPION KING (AK Lim) raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 500M, BORN A FIGHTER steadied when GREENSTONE (J Low) which had clipped the heels of SEGAR THE BEST, rolled in

BORN A FIGHTER was blocked for a clear run from the 450M to the 300M, and again over the final 75M.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of ARLO, Jockey S Ruzaini advised that the gelding had raced uncompetitively from the beginning, and was off the bit early in the race. He also stated that over the final 250M, ARLO had commenced to shorten stride.

When questioned, Trainer C Leck stated that ARLO had considerable history of leg problems having had many starts, and he believed that at its previous winning start, the gelding had been advantaged by the “yielding” state of track, and that it had not performed well on “good” surface. The Stewards informed him to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding during the week. A post-race veterinary examination of ARLO revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of SONG KID (App CK Khaw) revealed no significant finding.

RACE 5 (R1072) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

Trainer MW Teh was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for presenting ARC CARA (Y Aify) with blinkers/pacifiers which were not declared.

CONDADO (S Salee) dipped shortly after the start.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App CK Khaw, the rider of SATELLITE BOY, in the presence of his employing trainer, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that over the final stages, he shifted out crowding D’GREAT VULTURE (J De Souza) which had to be restrained. ROC THAT (SU Lim) which was following, was impeded.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App CK Khaw’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 26 August 2019 and to expire on 8 September 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:26pm).

RACE 6 (R1073) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

TILSWORTH FREDDIE (App A Suriya) was slow into stride.

STAR INVINCIBLE (S Ruzaini) was impeded near the 500M when attempting a run on the inside of BAKUTEH (S Salee).

When questioned as the reason I AM THE BOSS (App CK Khaw) had led as opposed to its previous two (2) starts, Trainer S Siva stated that I AM THE BOSS had been trapped wide on both of those occasions. He advised that today, he instructed that I AM THE  BOSS be ridden in handy position, however, App CK Khaw advised that had been left in front when nothing else wished to lead. Trainer S Siva was of the opinion that I AM THE BOSS which was back to its racing weight, was best suited when ridden for pace.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of FIRST PASSTHEPOST, was warned to moderate his whip use in future.

RACE 8 (R1075) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE B)

POWERFUL AS WIND (HS Gill) raced fiercely and was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned, Jockey HS Gill advised that after jumping well, he attempted to ride POWERFUL AS WIND to be positioned handy and with cover, however, he had been unable to restrain the gelding and found himself trapped on the outside of BEAUTIFUL ONE (B Pinheiro) racing in a wide position until straightening where POWERFUL AS WIND had tired markedly in the straight. He was of the opinion that the 1600M first up was unsuitable for POWERFUL AS WIND as he had been unable to ride it as instructed.

NOVA SPIRIT (S Ruzaini) drifted out in the straight, finishing wide on the track.

WHAT (AK Lim) was slow to begin.

FLY HIGH (HS Gill) raced wide throughout.

SMOOTHLY (S Ruzaini) raced fiercely in the early part of the race.

Jockey HS Gill was questioned as to why he had ridden FLY HIGH wide in the middle stages, he advised that he had been instructed to ride FLY HIGH on the pace from a wide barrier, the gelding had shown insufficient pace and he had been trapped wide and then had been forced wider when READY TO SMILE shifted out passing the 700M. Jockey HS Gill was reminded of his obligation to exercise his initiative to ensure that each of his mount be given full opportunity to be best placed.
