SUNDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 6), upgraded to “Good” after Race 6.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Philip Anderson (Senior Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1137)       CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

BULL AND BEAR (F Yap) was slow to begin.

At about the 800M, ACME (SS Vanan) had to steady to avoid running onto the heels of D’GREAT NIMBUS (J De Souza).

At about the 200M, SATELLITE KING (SU Lim) was forced to take a check as MYSTIC WARRIOR (App AM Aizat) shifted out. The Stewards took evidence from App AM Aizat, the rider of MYSTIC WARRIOR, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard. After reviewing the films and considering the evidence tendered, App AM Aizat was reprimanded and warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

RACE 2 (R1138)       CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

The saddle on BLACK THORN (S Anandan) and the tongue-tie on SUPER BONUS (G Pereira) were readjusted behind the barriers.

D’GREAT WALL (SU Lim) was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to race.

D’GREAT WALL was fractious in the barrier and jumped away awkwardly.

CHAMPAGNE ROSE (F Yap) and SURPRISE SURPRISE (App W Faizal) were both slow into stride.

DRAGON WALK (J De Souza) was unable to obtain cover and raced wide in the early part of the race.

Racing to the 300M, BLACK THORN raced greenly resulting in LIM’S RANGER (App A Zaimuddin) having to be steadied to obtain a clear run. BLACK THORN continued to race greenly at about the 200M resulting in Jockey S Anandan having to stop riding momentarily to straighten the gelding.

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines and Jockey J De Souza into the disappointing performance of DRAGON WALK. Trainer R Lines stated that his instructions were to be handy to midfield and this was confirmed from the Trainer’s Instruction Form. He explained that from Barrier 12, DRAGON WALK was unable to secure a forward position with cover causing the gelding to over-race and weaken badly in the straight as a consequence. He further stated that DRAGON WALK has been working well and could not offer any further explanation on the disappointing performance. Jockey J De Souza made similar comments.

The Stewards informed Trainer R Lines to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding on returning to his stable. The Stewards noted their explanations.

FLIGHT OFTHE SAKER (TK Barnabas) was slow to begin.

LIM’S INVINCIBLE (App A Zaimuddin) jumped away awkwardly.

METEOR GARDEN (S Anandan) was slow into stride.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, App L De Souza, the rider of D’GREAT RICH, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(6) in that he failed to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The particulars of the charge were that in the last 30M, he rode with insufficient vigour. App L De Souza admitted to the Stewards that he was unaware of SPLENDOR (App W Faizal) closing on his inside. He was fined RM2000/- and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

GAZOO (L Sofhan) stood still as the barriers opened and was slow to begin.

DELTA WING (G Pereira) was slowly into stride.

App S Zulfikri, the rider of SPIN FIRE, reported that at about the 100M mark, he switched his whip to his left hand and shortly afterwards, dropped his whip when it was knocked by contact with the whip of App A Zaimuddin, the rider of NOVA ACE.

The Stewards questioned Jockey L Sofhan and Trainer LN Danis into the disappointing performance of GAZOO. Jockey L Sofhan stated that the horse had a tendency to go to sleep in the barrier if left in more than a short period of time as it was today. He further stated that after a slow start, the horse raced lazily and he was able to make only moderate progress from the rear division in the straight.

Trainer LN Danis added that he had requested GAZOO to be loaded last but due to the misbehavior of SPIN FIRE, GAZOO had, in fact, been loaded second last. The Stewards noted their explanations.

ZENZERO (C Goon) was slow to begin and required urging to take up a forward position.

Approaching the 1400M, ELEGENT (Y Aify) steadied to avoid the heels of SATELLITE LEGEND (M Zairi) which rolled in. D’GREAT HAWK (SU Lim) was briefly tightened against the rail in the same incident.

At about the 350M, AMI ELEVEN (App L De Souza) shifted out slightly under pressure.

WINNING STAR (S Anandan) which was beaten 23 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

PROHIBITION (A Nawawi) was slow to begin.

WINGED FOOT (G Pereira) was slow to find its stride and had to be pushed to obtain a forward position.

DIRAC (SU Lim) raced wide throughout without cover.

EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC (C Goon) was out-paced between the 800M and the 400M, and lost its position. The Stewards questioned Jockey C Goon, the rider of EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC, who stated that he tried his best to gain a handy position but was unable to do so and found himself in the middle of the pack. He was then forced to check and switch out inside the 400M to avoid running onto the heels of SPADE OF ACE (App AK Lim). After that, EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC proved one-paced in the concluding stages. The Stewards noted his comments.

STREET OF LONDON (M Zairi) had to be eased approaching the finish to avoid running onto the heels of SPADE OF ACE.

FORTUNIQUE (Y Aify) was very slow to begin.

LEE BANK (App S Zulfikri) fly-jumped leaving the stalls, raced awkwardly throughout and hung to the outside throughout the race.

TAFFETAS (J De Souza) was briefly eased at the 500M as US DOLLAR (S Anandan) rolled in, had to be switched out repeatedly in the straight to obtain clear running.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri and App S Zulfikri into the performance of LEE BANK. Trainer M Sukri explained that the gelding had a tendency to get onto the wrong lead leg around the bend and hung to the outside. App S Zulfikri stated that LEE BANK was tractable in the straight but proved impossible to handle around the bend. As a consequence of this, LEE BANK will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for a having poor performance. The Stewards informed Trainer M Sukri that he should carefully consider whether it is appropriate to use an Apprentice Jockey on a horse with such awkward racing manners.

RACE 9 (R1145)       CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

MAGICAL TALENT (App L De Souza) was slow to begin.

BATTLE KING (M Zairi) was slowly into stride, raced poorly and finished tailed out. Jockey M Zairi reported that his horse’s bit had slipped through its mouth. In view of the gelding’s poor performance and its long absence from the track before this race, BATTLE KING which was beaten 19 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Approaching the 200M, CLIP THE TICKET (SU Lim) switched out when insufficiently clear which caused MAGICAL TALENT to be taken out to the right onto IDEAL GUIDE (J De Souza).

When attempting to find clear running at about the 200M, ONE FOR ALL (App M Hanif) ran onto the heels of SATELLITE BOY (App AK Lim) causing App AK Lim to switch sharply to the outside. Thereafter ONE FOR ALL finished the race wide.

TAKEAIM was disappointed for a run and switched in at about the 200M.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding of CLIP THE TICKET which finished unplaced. After taking evidence from Jockey SU Lim and Trainer F Maynard, the rider and Trainer of CLIP THE TICKET respectively, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

An inquiry into the whip use of Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of GIBRALTAR PARK, will be held at a date to be fixed.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of LORD OF SHANGHAI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 300M in this race, he switched out for a clear run when insufficiently clear of IDEAL GUIDE (J De Souza) causing that horse to be checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey L Sofhan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey L Sofhan’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 18 September 2017 and to expire on 24 September 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:50pm).

RACE 10 (R1146)     CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

JUBILATION (M Zairi) got cast in the barrier. Acting on veterinary advice that JUBILATION had sustained injury to both of its hind and off fore legs, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 5:05pm. The gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

GRAND SHOW (App AM Aizat) and BIG MOTOR (A Nawawi) were both slow to find their strides.

At about the 400M, TOTALITY (App AK Lim) clipped heels with KING ROULETTE (App M Hanif) causing App AK Lim to be unseated. LIM’S BATTLE (App A Zaimuddin) shied away from the faller and BIG MOTOR was forced to take evasive action at the rear of the field.  App AK Lim was subsequently examined by the Club Doctor and although not seriously hurt, was stood down from his remaining riding engagement for the day.

At about the 300M, GRAND SHOW was disappointed for a run and shortly thereafter, shifted out causing a minor brush with LUCKY SIXTYSIX (SS Vanan).
