SUNDAY, 4 NOVEMBER 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 8), upgraded to “Good” prior to Race 9.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1371) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

BEIJING STAR (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly outwards and brushed with the side of the gate. BEIJING STAR was slow into stride as a consequence, and also laid inwards shortly after the start.

RED EMPRESS (C Goon) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, GOLDEN DRAGON (J Low) laid inwards briefly causing PLATINUM TYCOON (SU Lim) to be taken slightly inwards, and HAHA BABE (L Sofhan) and BEIJING STAR to be crowded on the inside of PLATINUM TYCOON. SPARKLER (App CK Khaw) had to be eased to avoid the heels of BEIJING STAR.

Approaching the 400M, PLATINUM TYCOON commenced to lay outwards causing SGFIFTY (App AM Aizat) to be carried outwards at about the 400M. PLATINUM TYCOON continued to lay outwards in the concluding stages and finished wide out.

A post-race veterinary examination of KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL (App L De Souza) revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned regarding the performance of GOLDEN DRAGON, Jockey J Low reported that the gelding did not show its customary speed in the early stages and therefore he was unable to obtain a forward position, and was trapped wide. He added that the gelding’s response in the straight was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDEN DRAGON revealed no significant finding.

SPORTS TOTO 5D STAKES

ACIPENSER (J Low) and THAI BAHT (App WK Lee) were both slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000M, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of HK DOLLAR, attempted to restrain his mount which was racing keenly. In doing so, HK DOLLAR shifted slightly outwards, causing ALIEN (App L De Souza) which was following, to clip heels, stumble and shift inwards when unbalanced. This in turn caused BRILLIANT STAR (A Aucharuz) to be checked to avoid ALIEN’s heels and SOUTHERN HUSSLER (O Chavez) to be shifted inwards to avoid contact. Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of HK DOLLAR, was shown the vision of the incident and warned to exercise greater awareness to horses around him under similar circumstances in future.

UNION JAC (App A Zaimuddin) showed a tendency to lay outwards in the middle stages and raced wide around the bend.

At about the 100M, LIM’S ACTION (HS Gill) had to be checked to avoid the heels of HK DOLLAR which laid outwards under pressure.

ARLO which was beaten 15 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of LIM’S ACTION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted outwards to obtain clear running when not clear of BRILLIANT STAR (A Aucharuz) which was checked for several strides.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey HS Gill’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, good riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 5 November 2018 and to expire on 11 November 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of HK DOLLAR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 100M, he allowed his mount to lay outwards when not quite clear of LIM’S ACTION (HS Gill).

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey L Sofhan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 12 November 2018 and to expire on 18 November 2018, both dates inclusive. RACE 4 (R1374) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SPORTS TOTO 4D STAKES

D’GREAT PERFECT (App CK Khaw) jumped inwards and brushed with TILSWORTH JOSHI (App WK Lee).

JABBAR (O Chavez) jumped awkwardly inwards while being crowded by RUNNING FLAME (S Ruzaini) which also jumped inwards.

In the early stages, JABBAR and LUCKY VICTORY (J Low) which were racing up-sides in a tightly packed field, repeatedly brushed with each other.

At about the 1100M, LUCKY VICTORY commenced to over-race when in restricted room on the inside of JABBAR. When the rider of LUCKY VICTORY attempted to restrain his horse to avoid the heels of KITA TEAMWORK (App AM Aizat), LUCKY VICTORY proved intractable and shifted abruptly outwards, causing JABBAR to be crowded on the inside of SATELLITE GOLDEN (S Sandana). Thereafter JABBAR continued to lay outwards causing I HAVE A DREAM (A Aucharuz) to shift outwards as a precaution.

Approaching the 1000M, LUCKY VICTORY raced fiercely and again buffeted with JABBAR. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

When questioned, Jockey O Chavez, the rider of JABBAR, stated that the early interference had affected his chances in the race.

Approaching the 200M, DONT MIND IFIDO (Y Aify) shifted persistently inwards under pressure when tiring.

D’GREAT PERFECT which was beaten 20 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of I HAVE A DREAM, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of I HAVE A DREAM revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey Y AIFY, the rider of DONT MIND IFIDO, and Jockey S Sandana, the rider of SATELLITE GOLDEN, reported that their horses raced greenly.

Shortly after the start, SIR HENRY (S Ruzaini) was bumped by BIG BUS (App A Zaimuddin), stumbled, became unbalanced and lost ground.

Approaching the 900M, MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) was eased to avoid the heels of CHAR SIEW (L Sofhan) which laid inwards on the bend.

Approaching the 300M, MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) was disappointed for a run on the heels of BIG BUS and CHAR SIEW, and was shifted inwards to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 200M, App A Suriya, the rider of FRENCH VINTAGE, dropped his reins briefly but soon regained them and was able to ride with his normal vigour in the concluding stages.

Approaching the 100M, BIG BUS was shifted outwards to avoid the heels of CHAR SIEW which shifted slightly inwards.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App WK Lee, the rider of IMMORTALITY, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer SY Lim, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that he rode with insufficient vigour and purpose, and did not make sufficient attempt to keep IMMORTALITY in touch with the main body of the field.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App WK Lee’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from 5 November 2018 and to expire on 4 January 2019, both dates inclusive. Approaching the 800M, MAREA NEGRO shifted inwards when not clear and crowded VOLANTE GENERAL and MASTER MINER on his inside causing MASTER MINER to check sharply, and NEVERSAYNEVER to run onto the heels of MASTER MINER, blunder badly, breach the running rail and unseat App S Uzair. App S Uzair was not seriously injured as a result of this incident, however, was stood down from his riding engagements for the remainder of the races today.

KING OPERA which was beaten 14 1/4 lengths and MASTER MINER which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performances. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that MASTER MINER returned with a cut on the off hind tendon.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of MAREA NEGRO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 800M, he allowed his mount to shift inwards and did not leave sufficient space for horses on his inside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. STAR TOTO 6/50 STAKES

The State of Track was upgraded to “good” prior to the running of this race.

BACK TO THE TOWERS (S Anandan) and SOUTHERN MAN (S Ruzaini) were both slow to begin.

Approaching the 200M, CRAZY CLUB (J Mallyon) raced in restricted room between CONFOUND (O Chavez) and GORDON G (App KC Wong), and shortly afterwards, had to be eased when the gap narrowed.

IMMORTAL LEGACY (HK Cheng) which was eased in the concluding stages, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Trainer SB Tan, the Trainer of WINNING TANGO, pleaded guilty of charge under MRA Rule 35(8) in that he failed to notify the Stewards that WINNING TANGO was to be ridden in a manner different from its recent start or starts. WINNING TANGO disputed the lead at a fast pace before compounding in the last 200M, having been ridden from midfield or a handy position in recent starts. He was fined RM500/-. A post-race veterinary examination of WINNING TANGO revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

An inquiry into the running and handling of DYNAMIC EAGLE (S Mutaza) which also disputed the lead at a fast pace, will be held at a date to be fixed.

When questioned about the improved performance of the winner, SOUTHERN MAN, Trainer S Ellis stated that the gelding was better suited by the fast pace of today’s race as compared to his last run, which was also his first start after a 4 month spell.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 2 (R1309) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 21 OCTOBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 4 November 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of JUST DUIT in the above race, and took evidence from Jockey HK Cheng and Trainer PS Kumaran, the rider and trainer of JUST DUIT respectively.

Jockey HK Cheng stated that his instructions were to ride JUST DUIT in midfield and in a slightly more conservative fashion than on his previous start, which was over a shorter distance of 1200M. Trainer PS Kumaran confirmed there instructions, adding that JUST DUIT is, in his opinion, more effective at 1200M than the 1400M of this race.

Jockey HK Cheng explained that JUST DUIT had commenced to lay outwards approaching the bend, and had continued to do so around the turn, causing him to slightly check on two or three occasions to avoid being awkwardly placed on the heels of SRIKANDI (Y Aify). He added that JUST DUIT seemed to race with less enthusiasm than previously and that his response to pressure was disappointing.

The Stewards advised Jockey HK Cheng that if he had allowed JUST DUIT to stride forward to take a position slightly in front of SRIKANDI in the space behind FRENCH VINTAGE (App A Suriya), he would have eliminated the risk of contact with SRIKANDI’s heels. He was warned to ride his mounts in a positive manner in the middle stages in future and to leave no room for query.

RACE 1 (R1236) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), NEW DAWN STAKES, SUNDAY, 7 OCTOBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 4 November 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry adjourned from 21 October 2018 into the running and handling of TOTALITY in the above race.

Trainer WC Lim had been unhappy with Jockey S Sandana, who he felt had not carried out his instructions which were to ride a forward race, and had made a report to the Stewards of such.

At the conclusion of the inquiry, the Stewards accepted the explanations tendered by Jockey S Sandana and took no further action.

AMENDMENT

RACE 10 (R1317) CLASS 4 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 21 OCTOBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 2nd November 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, held an enquiry into the running and handling of JUBILATION (App N Varmah) which raced in a detached last place in the early and middle stages of the above race. They took evidence from App N Varmah and his Master C Leck, also the Trainer of JUBILATION.

App N Varmah stated that on jumping, JUBILATION had brushed with BOOSTER on his inside and then did not stride out to his satisfaction in the early and middle stages. He added that the gelding had started to move better in the straight and finished the race well. Trainer C Leck stated that in his opinion JUBILATION had been positioned too far back and that App N Varmah should have attempted to keep in touch with the other runners. However, he added that the gelding has issues with intermittent lameness and that on previous occasions when he has raced poorly, he was subsequently discovered to be lame. He explained that App N Varmah was aware of the horse’s veterinary history.

The Stewards also took evidence from Dr Shri Kanth (Senior Veterinary Surgeon), who had inspected JUBILATION post-race and  Dr Edward Samuel (Veterinary Surgeon), who had treated the gelding the following day for a problem with his off-fore heel. JUBILATION displayed no abnormalities immediately post-race and after viewing the vision of the race, both veterinarians agreed with the observation of the Stewards that there was no discernible change in his stride pattern at any stage.

While acknowledging that App N Varmah is very inexperienced, and that he did express concerns about JUBILATION’s welfare immediately post-race, the Stewards considered his riding to be unacceptable in the circumstances. App N Varmah was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that he rode with insufficient purpose and vigour throughout. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App N Varmah’s mitigating factors including his lack of experience, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended for 2 months with effect from 2nd November 2018 and to expire on 1st January 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (10:55am).
