STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 2), upgraded to Good before Race 3.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1126) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE A)

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of WILL BE BETTER, was fined RM1000/- under MRA Rule 121(7) in that he weighed in 1.2kgs over his declared weight. He admitted that he had consumed fluids after weighing out.

WILL BE BETTER (O Chavez) was slow to begin, raced ungenerously and was soon distanced from the field. Jockey O Chavez reported that WILL BE BETTER showed no response to pressure other than to lay inwards, and thus he feared for the gelding’s well-being. He added that he allowed WILL BE BETTER to come home in his own time.  A post-race veterinary examination of WILL BE BETTER revealed that it was lame on both fore legs and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Approaching the 1000M, SEE FOR YOURSELF (S Sandana) laid in and briefly crowded MEGUSTO (J De Souza) which was over-racing, causing the rider of MEGUSTO to ease in response. MEGUSTO continued to race keenly in the middle stages and laid outwards approaching the 400M.

Approaching the 200M, MACHUNG STAR (SU Lim) shifted inwards under pressure when not fully clear of SATURDAY’S DELIGHT (J Mallyon) which was briefly eased as a consequence. The Stewards showed the vision of the incident to Jockey SU Lim and warned him that he must take all measures to control his mounts under similar circumstances in future, and not rely on the whip to steer.

STREET CHAMP (S Ruzaini) raced ungenerously in the middle stages and showed no response to pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of STREET CHAMP revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

RACE 2 (R1127) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE A)

RED EASTERN (Y Aify) showed reluctance to proceed to the start position before the race, and was then slow to begin and forfeited several lengths. RED EASTERN will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall, to be ridden unaided to the start) test before being declared to race again.

LIM’S CHARGE (HS Gill) jumped outwards and bumped TILSWORTH MALI (L Sofhan) outwards onto ELEGENT (App WK Lee) and as a result, TILSWORTH MALI was unable to obtain a forward position in the early stages. When questioned, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of TILSWORTH MALI, stated that his instructions were in fact to settle the mare in a mid-to-back position.

Trainer SY Lim was questioned by the Stewards about the apparent change of tactics. He stated that TILSWORTH MALI had jumped well on her previous start and obtained a forward position without being urged, although it was his intention for her to race mid-to-back on that occasion.

The Stewards warned Trainer SY Lim that he must take greater care to attend his responsibilities under MRA Rule 35(8) regarding notification of tactical changes prior to the race. They informed him that if he wishes TILSWORTH MALI to be ridden prominently next time, he must notify the Stewards accordingly. A post-race veterinary examination of TILSWORTH MALI revealed no significant finding.

AMAZING (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

ZENZERO (App N Varmah) jumped awkwardly outwards, causing POWERFUL FIGHTER (J De Souza) to be taken wider after the jump.

Approaching the 1000M, TILSWORTH MALI was crowded between ARCHER COMPANY (R Rueven) which laid inwards and LIM’S CHARGE (HS Gill).

At about the 350M, AMAZING was shifted inwards to avoid the heels of ARCHER COMPANY.

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” prior to the running of this race.

PREMIUM STARS (S Ruzaini) jumped outwards and brushed with GORDON G (J De Souza).

HERO CHAMPION (HS Gill) jumped awkwardly inwards causing SCRAT (C Goon) to be shifted inwards in response.

STREET OF LONDON (App W Faizal) was slow to begin.

D’GREAT SPIRIT (HK Cheng) raced wide in the early and middle stages in an attempt to maintain a forward position.

At about the 350M, BLOOD ROYAL (App CK Khaw) laid inwards causing PREMIUM STARS to be taken inwards and to be awkwardly placed on the heels of GORDON G.

Approaching the 200M, PREMIUM STARS shifted outwards causing SYMPHONY ECLIPSE (Y Aify) and D’GREAT SPIRIT to be shifted slightly outwards and CHAR KWAY TEOW (L Sofhan) to be briefly eased and shifted outwards to avoid the heels of D’GREAT SPIRIT.

SYMPHONY ECLIPSE persistently laid inwards from the 200M and Jockey Y Aify was unable to use his full vigour.

When questioned, Jockey C Goon, the rider of SCRAT, stated that the Trainer had instructed him to sit in a forward position behind the leaders. However, due to having been installed for a long time before the start, the mare jumped slowly and was thereafter crowded by HERO CHAMPION on her outside and unable to obtain a forward early position. Jockey C Goon added he was able to make some progress between the 600M and the 400M but approaching the 300M, the gap narrowed behind SYMPHONY ECLIPSE on his inside and D’GREAT SPIRIT on his outside and he was obliged to switch inside to obtain clear running. Jockey C Goon also informed the Stewards that SCRAT responded just fairly to pressure in the last 200M. A post-race veterinary examination of SCRAT revealed no significant finding.

Approaching the 200M, TARZAN (A Aucharuz) commenced to shift abruptly inwards causing REAL MEAN (J De Souza) to be eased at about the 200M to avoid the heels of TARZAN. Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of TARZAN, was shown the vision of the incident and was warned that he must take all measures to control his mounts under similar circumstances in future, and not rely on the whip to steer.

An objection was lodged by Jockey J De Souza, the rider of REAL MEAN, placed fourth against TARZAN (A Aucharuz) placed third, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 200M. An inquiry was opened into the running and handling of LEON (Z Khairil). The Stewards adjourned the matter to a date to be fixed.
