SATURDAY, 8 FEBRUARY 2020

 STATE OF TRACK: Good

(Rail at 4M Short Course)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr James Yu.

RACE 1 (R181)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

SUPER EIGHT (App L De Souza) was slow into stride.

Near the 800M, SATELLITE GOLDEN (HS Gill) threw its head up when racing fiercely.

At the 250M, DANE’S ANATOMY (R Rueven) had to be steadied outwards when AIR POWER (App CK Khaw) drifted slightly.

EAGLE SOAR (J De Souza) had to be taken out across the heels of BELIEVE IT OR NOT (SU Lim) to obtain clear running near the 100M.

When questioned, Jockey R Shafiq stated that EMPEROR WARRIOR was sitting back at the start and was slow to begin. Subsequently, he had been further back than anticipated but had tried to improve as he believed the pace to be only moderate. EMPEROR WARRIOR had then commenced to race fiercely, but on straightening the gelding had compounded badly.

Trainer WC Lim advised that EMPEROR WARRIOR was a nervous horse and its racing performance may have been affected by its barrier manners. He stated that EMPEROR WARRIOR had raced consistently for some time and it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell.

App A Zaimuddin, the rider of ELEGENT, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ELEGENT revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

From the outside barrier, MR DREYFUSS (R Rueven) was slow to begin.

WILL BE BETTER (App M Lukman) raced wide throughout.

BUKIT SUBANG (R Shafiq) was inclined to lay inwards and near the 275M, steadied behind DAYFLIRT (S Salee) and had to be taken outwards across the heels of WILL BE BETTER when that gelding shifted in.

Jockeys R Shafiq and HS Gill, the rider of BUKIT SUBANG and NOVA EAGLE respectively, reported that their horses were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of BUKIT SUBANG and NOVA EAGLE revealed that the geldings returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

 RACE 3 (R183)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

Acting on veterinary advice that CLASSIC KING (R Rueven) was lame off hind, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 1:30pm. CLASSIC KING will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

HAPPY GHOST (App A Zaimuddin) which was standing very awkwardly, missed the start and was ridden rearward. The Stewards addressed this issue with the Club Starter.

D’GREAT SONG (R Shafiq) travelled wide in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT SONG revealed no significant finding.

Passing the 250M, SILVER POWER (App M Lukman) was inclined to drift out over the final 100M, carrying JUST DUIT (App CK Khaw) outwards. App M Lukman was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of READY TO RULE, pleaded guilty to a charge of improper riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(b)(ii) in that:

  1. He applied undue pressure to SCORPION KING (SU Lim) near the 850M and continued to pressurize that gelding, bumping with it heavily near the 800M.
  2. Passing the 650M, when on the inside of SCORPION KING, he crossed in quickly when insufficiently clear causing that gelding to check severely and blundered.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey HK Cheng’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight (8) Malaysian race days with effect from 17 February 2020 and to expire on 15 March 2020, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4:30pm).

TOM YAM (C Goon) threw its head and refused to gallop in the early stages. Trainer SY Lim was advised that in light with the mare’s continued manners, TOM YAM will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again.

App M Lukman, the rider of FLASH, reported that his horse was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of FLASH revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

 RACE 5 (R185)         CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

Acting on veterinary advice that SATELLITE PRINCE (App M Lukman) was lame near hind, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 2:29pm. SATELLITE PRINCE will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

D’GREAT OPULENT (R Shafiq) was slow into stride.

On inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of METAGROSS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that running to the 850M, he shifted in, crowding LUCKY JUSTICE (J De Souza) which bumped with BEAUTIFUL ONE (J Low).

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 17 February 2020 and to expire on 23 February 2020, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4:25pm).

TRINITY HONOR (App A Zaimuddin) drifted out in the straight.

METAGROSS was inclined to shift inwards over the concluding stages.

The Stewards questioned App A Suriya (UNSHADOWED GENERAL), in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer C Leck, related to the riding of UNSHADOWED GENERAL in the straight. He stated that after riding to instructions from the rearward position, he had ridden vigourously with the whip in the early part of the straight and UNSHADOWED GENERAL commenced to make ground quickly, however, he had progressed very quickly behind FLASH ONE (R Rueven) when on the outside of BEAUTIFUL ONE (J Low). At this stage, he had to steady UNSHADOWED GENERAL near the 75M as he believed he had insufficient room to go to the inside of that gelding without causing interference to BEAUTIFUL ONE.

After considering this evidence and the fact that UNSHADOWED GENERAL was making ground quickly, the Stewards considered that App A Suriya had not erred in steadying at this stage.

App AR Aiman (BRINGER OF WAR) dropped his whip at the 100M mark. After consideration of this incident, the Stewards deemed that App AR Aiman was inexperience and as such instructed that after the weekend’s racing that he fulfill a training regime related to the use of his whip.

Jockey R Shafiq reported that UNSURPASSED was not striding out freely in the final stages and he eased the gelding at the 200M. A post-race veterinary examination of UNSURPASSED revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

FIRST LIGHT was inclined to lay inwards when struck with the whip over the concluding stages.
