Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Lee Seng He (Senior Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward)

RACE 1 (R1226)       CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

SHUYING XIAO XIAO (App P Mogun) was slowly away, and thereafter raced wide in an attempt to recover the ground forfeited. App P Mogun, the rider of SHUYING XIAO XIAO, reported to the Stewards that his horse reared leaving the stalls, causing him to become unbalanced and his saddle to slip back.

COLONEL LINCOLN (J Low) raced keenly in the early stages.

FLYING NEKO (J De Souza) which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

From approaching the 100M, COLONEL LINCOLN laid inwards causing the rider to ease and correct to avoid contact with NOVA ACE (HK Cheng). In the last strides, NOVA ACE was eased to avoid the heels of COLONEL LINCOLN, which was taken inwards by MEGUSTO (App CK Khaw), which in turn received pressure from ANAK WARRIOR (S Salee) on his outside.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Salee, the rider of ANAK WARRIOR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift inwards leaving insufficient racing room for the horses on his inside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Salee’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 October 2018 and to expire on 14 October 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2pm).

Approaching the 1000M, ONCE A THIEF (A Aucharuz) was eased for one stride to avoid the heels of D’GREAT SPIRIT (HK Cheng), which crossed in front. Jockey HK Cheng was shown the vision of the incident and was warned to respect the 2 lengths standard when crossing to the inside under similar circumstances in future.

App WW Cheah, the rider of MAGICAL TALENT, reported that at about the 600M, he had to steady to avoid the heels of WINGED FOOT (J Low). After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of D”GREAT SPIRIT, was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 121(1) for failing to obey the provisions of this rule in that he did not immediately dismount and weigh in after pulling up and returning his horse to the winning enclosure, but instead posed for photographs.

Approaching the 400M, MARIO ATTILA (App W Faizal) was denied a clear run and subsequently switched outwards at about the 350M.

At about the 400M, GOLD MOSA (App L De Souza) brushed with ARCHER COMPANY (J Mallyon) causing ARCHER COMPANY to shy away and lose momentum. Jockey J Mallyon reported, when questioned, that his horse had shown a timid attitude. AMONGST THE STARS (A Aucharuz) was also taken slightly outwards in this incident.

App WK Lee, the rider of OD STAR, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of OD STAR revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

LEON (S Sandana) was slow to begin.

At about the 1200M, HIGH COUNCIL (S Ruzaini) ducked abruptly inwards, causing TRUDEAU (App CK Khaw) and BRILLIANT DEAL (App W Faizal) to be crowded momentarily. BRILLIANT DEAL lost ground as a result of this incident causing METIER STAR (J De Souza) which was following, to check and shift outwards to avoid his heels. MR WOLFF (A Aucharuz) was taken outwards in turn.

At about the 350M, BRILLIANT DEAL laid outwards causing MR WOLFF to be taken outwards.

When questioned, Trainer S Cook, the trainer of MULTIBLUE SHARK, reported that the gelding was installed for a long time and did not jump alertly as a consequence. He explained that he had specifically instructed App P Mogun not to forfeit ground by racing wide, and therefore, in order to comply with his riding instructions, App P Mogun had no choice but to remain well-back in the field until the straight.

RACE 8 (R1233)       CLASS 4 (B) – 1600M (SHORT COURSE A)

                                    KOREA RACING AUTHORITY TROPHY

LIM’S STARDOM (App A Zaimuddin) cast its near fore shoe behind the barrier. The gelding was reshod, checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race.

GOOD DEAL (L Sofhan) was slow to find its stride.

KEEP THE JUSTICE (S Ruzaini) was observed to be over-racing in the early stages.

Approaching the 600M, SOON SEEKER (A Aucharuz) was briefly carried wide by GOOD DEAL (L Sofhan).

Approaching the 200M, TARZAN (App W Faizal) was shifted inwards to obtain clear running causing KEEP THE JUSTICE to be eased in order to avoid his heels. At the conclusion of an inquiry, App W Faizal, the rider of TARZAN, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of KEEP THE JUSTICE.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App W Faizal’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 October 2018 and to expire on 14 October 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:55pm).

In the closing stages, MOGAN’S PRIDE (App L De Souza) showed a tendency to lay inwards and the jockey was unable to ride with his full vigour.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of MR CONNERY which was drawn outside, reported that the gelding was trapped wide throughout.

LIM’S STARDOM which was beaten 24 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned, Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of SOON SEEKER, stated that his instructions were to drop the gelding out and to come with a late run. He added that he had the opportunity to improve his position by switching out about the 600M but was concerned that he would be forced to race wide out.

He therefore chose to remain in last place until the straight and that at about the 400M, took the only run available to him between MR CONNERY and LIM’S STARDOM. He explained that he was unable to try a run to the outside at about the 400M due to the presence of MOGAN’S PRIDE as he was unable to switch around that rival without easing back.

Trainer L Moy confirmed these instructions and explained that Jockey A Aucharuz, who is a regular rider for his stable, is well aware that he does not tolerate jockeys racing wide and forfeiting ground. A post-race veterinary examination of SOON SEEKER revealed no significant finding.

Trainer F Maynard was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to present TOOBIGTOOFAIL with tongue-tie as declared.

SRIKANDI (Y Aify) was slow to begin and threw its head up on jumping.

Approaching the 1000M, LION CITY GOLD (SU Lim) was crowded by JUST DUIT (HK Cheng) to his outside which was in turn taken inwards by BARKER ROAD KID (L Sofhan). LION CITY GOLD was forced to check and forfeited ground as a result of this incident.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of BARKER ROAD KID, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 1000M, he allowed his horse to shift inwards when not clear of JUST DUIT which was carried onto LION CITY GOLD.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey L Sofhan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 October 2018 and to expire on 14 October 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:15pm).

Approaching the 800M, SRIKANDI (Y Aify) laid inwards briefly causing KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL (App AM Aizat) to be eased in order to avoid his heels.

KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL was shifted outwards to obtain clear running at about the 300M and finished wide out.

Approaching the 100M, ACME (S Ruzaini) was crowded between SIR HENRY (S Sandana) on his outside and SALAHADDIN (App CK Khaw) on his inside.

App CK Khaw, the rider of SALAHADDIN, reported that he was crowded inside the last the 50M by SIR HENRY and lost his position. He added that but for the interference SALAHADDIN would have been placed.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Sandana, the rider of SIR HENRY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 100M, he allowed his horse to shift inwards away from a right-handed drive causing interference firstly to ACME and then to SALAHADDIN.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Sandana’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 15 October 2018 and to expire on 21 October 2018, both dates inclusive. EAGLE SOAR (App WW Cheah) stumbled leaving the barrier and thereafter App WW Cheah lost his balance causing EAGLE SOAR to forfeit ground. EAGLE SOAR was subsequently forced to race wide in order to obtain a forward position and compounded in the latter stages. Trainer R Lines was advised by the Stewards that they did not consider EAGLE SOAR to be suitable for App WW Cheah at his level of experience, and was reminded that as his Master, it is his responsibility to provide appropriate mounts for his apprentice.

BEIJING STAR (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin and showed no pace in the early stages despite being urged. When questioned, Trainer WC Lim, the trainer of BEIJING STAR, stated that the gelding can be inconsistent and tends to perform best when fresh. He further stated that BEIJING STAR may not have been suited by the quick back-up, having raced with 6 days previously. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

FRIDAY, 5 OCTOBER 2018, SLTC

Trainer SB Tan was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Regulation 17 in that as the receiving Trainer, he was the person responsible for the lodgement of the Transfer Form when RAHEEB (E130) arrived into his stable but the said form was never lodged. Trainer SB Tan was also advised that RAHEEB was not in fact eligible to be transferred to his training, as it had been temporarily exported to Malaysia on 23 May 2018 for spelling only.

RACE 8 (R1213) METRO A (SW) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), NEW ZEALAND READY TO RUN TROPHY, SUNDAY, 30 SEPTEMBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 2 October 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of RISING GLORY. Evidence was taken from Jockey HS Gill and Trainer BT Lim, the rider and trainer of RISING GLORY respectively.

Trainer BT Lim explained that he had instructed Jockey HS Gill that he would prefer the gelding to be ridden with hands and heels as opposed to the whip, citing two examples of races from April 2018 in which RISING GLORY had displayed a green and erratic response to the whip.

The Stewards accepted that the instructions given by Trainer BT Lim were adequate in the circumstances. They informed Trainer BT Lim that if RISING GLORY is partnered by a different rider in the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor on 7th October 2018, he should give his riding instructions in the presence of the Stewards so that they can ensure that he complies with the provisions of MRA Rule 35(5). The Stewards noted that although Jockey HS Gill had justified his limited use of the whip on RISING GLORY, he could have improved his position approaching the 400M when a gap between AUD DOLLAR and JERAM VILLAGE was already available. He was warned that in future he should ride in such a manner as to leave to room for query.

RACE 6 (R1131) STAYER STAKES B – 1800M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 30th September 2018, concluded an enquiry which began on 9th September 2018 into the running and handling of LEON, which raced in a mid-to-back position before coming home well in the above race. Trainer K Coetzee was informed that his presence was not required on 30th September 2018.

Jockey Z Khairil stated that the manner in which he had ridden LEON was no different to the gelding’s normal racing pattern. He added that LEON laid outwards approaching the 500M and negotiated the bend with difficulty. The Stewards pointed out to Jockey Z Khairil that he had not taken an opportunity to make progress between the 800M and the 600M which had also, in hindsight, contributed to LEON being positioned too far back to reach the leaders.

The Stewards therefore warned Jockey Z Khairil that in similar circumstances in future he must take available opportunities to make progress during the middle section of the race.
