Following the running of this race, Jockey J Daniel reported that QIJI STAR was not ready for the start and had potentially been impeded by a handler. The Stewards conducted a review into these allegations during the course of which, it was established that QIJI STAR was fractious in its stalls on its own accord, and that there was no clear evidence that this horse had not been afforded an opportunity in order to obtain a fair start. Accordingly, QIJI STAR was deemed a runner.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Daniel, the rider of BALIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding BALIN leaving the 600M mark in this race, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to RHYTHM OF ZEN which had to be eased.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Daniel’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 13 February 2024 and to expire on 18 February 2024, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Trainer S Dunderdale was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the cross-nose band on ANTIPODEAN within the prescribed time.

Jockey J Daniel was examined by the Club Doctor who subsequently stood him down from his riding engagements for the remainder of the races today.

Jockey S Ruzaini appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his riding on LEGACY ROAR in the concluding stages. In this regard, Jockey S Ruzaini was specifically questioned on whether he had the opportunity to push through and take the run on the inside of PACIFIC EMPIRE (App R Nuqman). In this regard, he explained that at the point where he elected to shift out, his horse was not travelling well enough in order to move into the gap ahead of him and hold out the inward shifting PACIFIC EMPIRE. Accordingly, he elected to take his mount, which in his opinion, was building momentum as he attempted to get LEGACY ROAR to change legs to the outside of PACIFIC EMPIRE. However, upon shifting out for clear running, PACIFIC EMPIRE again crossed him and he was forced to shift back to his original inside run. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey S Ruzaini which was supported by the patrol film of the race.
