RACE 2 (R956) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Prior to the race, Trainer S Edwards, the Trainer of RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN (J Mallyon), informed the Stewards that the mare would be ridden with restraint from a wide barrier today. On jumping, RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN threw her head up and then raced greenly in the early stages.

TAIL SPIN (S Anandan) jumped slightly inwards, causing PLATINUM TYCOON (App L De Souza) and D’GREAT WALL (App KC Wong) to be briefly crowded to his inside.

Approaching the 1000M, PLATINUM TYCOON shifted abruptly inwards causing App L De Souza to ease and correct. In doing so, PLATINUM TYCOON was shifted outwards causing NOVA POWER (S Ruzaini) to run on his heels and to be checked.

Approaching the 200M, ACIPENSER (J De Souza) was shifted outwards to take a gap between RED SAPPHIRE (App CK Khaw) and NOVA SPIRIT (SU Lim). Thereafter NOVA SPIRIT commenced to shift persistently outwards away from ACIPENSER and finished wide out. The Stewards showed Jockey SU Lim the vision of the race and warned him that under similar circumstances in future, he should take appropriate measures to keep his mount straight, including switching his whip hand.

When questioned, App KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT WALL, stated that it was his intention to obtain a handy or midfield position but D’GREAT WALL showed no pace in the early stages and then, approaching the 1000M, he had been unable to hold his position on the inside of PLATINUM TYCOON which shifted inwards. Thereafter, he felt that D’GREAT WALL responded fairly to his urgings but stated that the gelding’s lack of early pace had left him placed too far back in the field. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT WALL revealed no significant finding.

SOON YOU THINK (S Anandan) was slow to find its stride.

MAGIC RANGER (HS Gill) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

SAYANG ME (App AK Lim) showed no pace in the early stages but responded fairly to pressure in the straight. App AK Lim reported after the race that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SAYANG ME revealed no significant finding.

At about the 1000M, ZENZERO brushed with NOVA LEGEND (J Mallyon) when attempting to make progress on NOVA LEGEND’s inside. At this point, MR CONNERY became awkwardly placed on the heels of ZENZERO.

At about the 500M, MR CONNERY was disappointed for a run on the heels of HAPPY JOY (A Aucharuz) and was shifted outwards for clear running approaching the 400M.

POWERFUL FIGHTER (App L De Souza) raced wide throughout and finished wide out. When questioned, App L De Souza stated that POWERFUL FIGHTER had got on the wrong lead leg around the bend and thereafter had continued to hang outwards in the straight.

Post-race veterinary examinations of PEACH BOWL (App WK Lee) and MAGIC RANGER revealed no significant finding. PEACH BOWL and MAGIC RANGER which were beaten 19 ¾ and 20 ¼ lengths respectively, will each be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performances.

RACE 4 (R958) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

CHIPS (F Yap) was slow to begin, was forced to race wide around the bend in order to make progress and was pulled up in the straight as the rider had limited control due to the bridle slipping.

CRAZY CLUB (Z Khairil) jumped outwards causing TIGER BAY (S Ruzaini) to be crowded between CRAZY CLUB and TRUMPS UP (A Aucharuz).

TRUMPS UP was observed to throw her head up in the early stages.

Approaching the 1300M, THAI BAHT (L Sofhan) had to be checked to avoid the heels of FEISTY LEO (App L De Souza) which crossed in front of him. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

Approaching the 500M, CRAZY CLUB was disappointed for a run on the heels of MISS STREISAND (App KC Wong).

From the 200M, TRUMPS UP showed a tendency to lay inwards and raced ungenerously, forcing Jockey A Aucharuz to ease and correct on two (2) occasions.

TIGER BAY and LIM’S STARDOM (App A Zaimuddin) which were beaten 19 and 19 ½ lengths respectively, will each be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performances.

Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of THAI BAHT, reported that the saddle on his horse slipped forward during running.

Trainer R Lines was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 35(8) for failing to notify the Stewards that FEISTY LEO was to be ridden differently to its most recent starts. FEISTY LEO was taken back to race in midfield on 21 July 2018 [Race 7 (R900)] and raced further back in the field on its previous three (3) starts, but took the lead in this race.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of TIGER BAY, Trainer F Maynard stated that as TIGER BAY had drawn a wide barrier, it was his intention to race further back in the field than his previous start. However in his opinion, TIGER BAY had resented being restrained in the early stages during which he also received some interference, and thereafter sulked and failed to perform.

On jumping, PRINCE RAVEN (App A Suriya) got his head up, jumped awkwardly outwards and brushed with MULTIBLUE SHARK (App P Mogun).

Approaching the 1200M, App A Zaimuddin, the rider of D’GREAT PRIDE, attempted to ease his mount in order to allow NOVA EAGLE (App CK Khaw) to cross in front of him and at this point, D’GREAT PRIDE threw his head up and became intractable for a few strides.

PRINCE RAVEN laid inwards from the 300M, causing the rider to ease and correct at about the 200M.

He added that he was able to obtain cover behind CHAMPAGNE REIN (S Anandan) and thereafter his mount settled, but again started to race keenly in response to D’GREAT SONG (App L De Souza) making progress on his inside approaching the 400M. He explained that he attempted to delay his challenge as long as possible but that LUCKY DAPPER responded disappointingly to pressure and faded in the closing stages.
