Selangor Meeting – 30 September

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 30 SEPTEMBER 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1206) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Jockey R Shafiq was nominated to ride ELITE EMPEROR in this race but was unavailable, having already been suspended by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing when riding in that jurisdiction. The Stewards received a submission from Jockey R Shafiq that he was mistaken about the dates of his suspension. They fined him RM250/- for a breach of MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he was guilty of negligence. Trainer BT Lim made an application to the Stewards that App A Zaimuddin, a 3kg claiming rider, was the most suitable replacement for Jockey R Shafiq in the circumstances. This was allowed and permission was given for App A Zaimuddin to be substituted.

AMAZING (L Sofhan) reared leaving the barrier and on landing, laid awkwardly inwards and brushed with PLATINUM TYCOON (SU Lim).

VELLENEX GENERAL (S Ruzaini) jumped inwards and crowded KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL (App L De Souza).

TEEN ANGEL (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

FRENCH VINTAGE (App A Suriya) got its head up at the jump and was slightly slow to begin as a consequence. In order to obtain a forward position having missed the jump, App A Suriya was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned, App A Suriya reported that his instructions were to obtain a handy position and preferably to sit in second place. However, FRENCH VINTAGE commenced to over-race approaching the 600M and he took the lead earlier than he had intended.

Jockey S Sandana, the rider of SATELLITE GENIUS, reported that when crossing behind horses at about the 1100M, SATELLITE GENIUS clipped the heels of FRENCH VINTAGE.

App L De Souza, the rider of KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip at about the 250M.

RACE 2 (R1207) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

MARIO ATTILA (App W Faizal) was slow to begin and raced ungenerously in the early stages.

GOLD KIDS (App WK Lee) was slow to begin.

At about the 1000M, PHANTASOS (S Ruzaini) shifted inwards causing LIM’S RANGER (App A Zaimuddin) to be crowded to his inside. The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini about this incident and accepted his explanation that he was trapped on the inside of DRAGON WALK (App CK Khaw) which was eased back, causing him to be short of room

Approaching the 200M, BEIJING STAR (S Sandana) commenced to shift inwards under a right-hand drive and took DRAGON WALK (App CK Khaw) inwards. Shortly after, PHANTASOS shifted outwards causing DRAGON WALK to be checked.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of PHANTASOS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift outwards across DRAGON WALK when not clear.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 October 2018 and to expire on 14 October 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:40pm).

App CK Khaw was late to arrive at the Stewards’ room for the above inquiry. He was questioned in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, after which the Stewards accepted App CK Khaw’s apology and his evidence that he misunderstood the instructions given by a Stipendiary Steward. App CK Khaw warned that a recurrence of such behavior will likely lead to a fine being imposed.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of JUST DUIT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 200M, he shifted inwards causing ALIEN (App AM Aizat) to be crowded on his inside and AMI ELEVEN (App WW Cheah) to be crowded on the inside of ALIEN.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Z Khairil’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 1 October 2018 and to expire on 7 October 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:50pm).

In the last 100M, BEIJING STAR continued to shift inwards and took PHANTASOS inwards onto ALIEN which shifted outwards. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of PHANTASOS, lost his whip in this incident and had to ride without it for the last 50M.

Jockey S Sandana, the rider of BEIJING STAR, was shown the vision of the last 300M and warned by the Stewards to take greater care to keep his mounts straight under similar circumstances in future.

LOVE GOES AROUND (App A Suriya) threw its head up at the jump.

NOVA SPIRIT (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 900M, TOTALITY (Z Khairil) laid inwards, causing LOVE GOES AROUND to check to avoid his heels.

Inside the last 100M, POWERFUL FIGHTER (J De Souza) laid outwards when not clear of MACHUNG STAR (SU Lim) causing the rider to check in order to avoid his heels and in doing so, become unbalanced. An objection was lodged by Jockey SU Lim, the rider of MACHUNG STAR, placed second against POWERFUL FIGHTER (J De Souza) being declared the winner, on the grounds of crossing him inside the final 100M. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled. The Stewards warned Jockey J De Souza that he should exercise greater care to keep straight under similar circumstances in future.

CHAMPION FACE (SU Lim) broke through the front gate after becoming upset by the behavior of PERFECT DJ. The gelding cantered for approximately 100M before returning to the starting position. At this point, Jockey SU Lim reported that the horse was calm and tractable. The gelding was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to race.

Acting on veterinary advice that LAW BY LAW (App A Zaimuddin) was lame near hind and had sustained a cut to its near hind leg due to the kicking out in the gate, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 2:01pm. LAW BY LAW will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

CHAMPION FACE jumped awkwardly inwards and bumped NOVA ACE (HK Cheng).

SUPERWISE (App W Faizal) was slow to begin.

At about the 1200M, NOVA ACE (HK Cheng) had to be eased as he threatened to run onto the heels of CHAMPION FACE (SU Lim).

After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Approaching the 400M, SANDY MIGHT (App WW Cheah) laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty.
