NAUGHTY KID raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 1000M, D’GREAT JOURNEY (AK Lim) misstrode and became unbalanced.

The Stewards inquired into the running and handling of MR G (Jockey A Zaimuddin). Evidence was taken from Jockey A Zaimuddin and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and trainer of MR G respectively. At the conclusion of the inquiry, Jockey A Zaimuddin, the rider of MR G, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He travelled wide between the 900M and the 600M when there was no need to do so; and
  2. He showed a lack of vigour in his riding in the straight.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey A Zaimuddin’s plea of guilty, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months, to be deferred, with effect from 11 October 2021 and to expire on 10 December 2021, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

SOUTHERN MAN (C Goon) struck the inside gate on jumping, losing considerable ground and was inclined to lay inwards in the straight. Jockey C Goon reported that he had considerable difficulty in riding SOUTHERN MAN properly. Trainer HY Cheng was advised that he must engage a rider who is aware of SOUTHERN MAN’s peculiarities in future.

ELITE WATERGHOST (A Zaimuddin) and GHOST BAY (App AR Raiyan) were slow into stride.

In the early stages, CHER (S Ruzaini) raced wide.

At the 1000M, PRINCE PEGASUS (L De Souza) steadied from the heels of BIG KING (App R Nuqman) causing ELITE WATERGHOST which was following, to be inconvenienced.

ELITE WATERGHOST steadied off the heels of EL TORDILLO (HS Gill) approaching the winning post.

The saddle on BIG KING slipped backwards at the turn into the straight and this placed App R Nuqman at a disadvantage where he shifted in near the 150M, causing EL TORDILLO to steady and continued to shift with PRINCE PEGASUS easing at the 100M.

METAGROSS (S Ruzaini) and THUNDER DRAGON (CK Khaw) were slow into stride.

At the 250M, after travelling wide, SEMANTAN PRINCE (J Shankar) had to be steadied off the heels of SELANGOR STAR (A Zaimuddin) when that horse shifted out.

HAKUNA MATATA (App R Nuqman) drifted in over the concluding 150M and caused FIRST LIGHT (L De Souza) to be steadied near the 50M. App R Nuqman was reprimanded for failing to straighten when his mount shifted.

A post-race veterinary examination of THUNDER DRAGON revealed that it returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RESOLUTE (HS Gill) raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding this, Jockey HS Gill advised that RESOLUTE was having its initial start in Malaysia and he was unsure of that gelding’s characteristics. He had been unable to restrain RESOLUTE in an endeavour to take a sit behind SELANGOR EXPRESS (App R Nuqman) running to the first turn. Jockey HS Gill was advised that he should make a positive effort to ensure that his horses are not ridden wide when there are alternatives available.

GIFTED (KC Tham) brushed the running rail near the 75M, becoming unbalanced.

UPSTART (App A Suriya) returned having cast its off fore plate.

RACE 8 (R733)         SUPREME A – 1100M (SHORT COURSE)

In the early stages, XENA (J Low) raced fiercely.

Jockey S Ruzaini (VOLCANIC GENERAL) was fined the sum of RM500/- under MRA Rule 44(12) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

A post-race veterinary examination of SHOWBOY (Y Aify) revealed that it returned with laryngeal hemiplegia (grade 3) and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Stewards inquired into the manner in which App AB Riduan rode CONSTANT JUSTICE. Trainer HY Cheng stated that he had instructed CONSTANT JUSTICE be ridden forward but not lead, however, App AB Riduan was unable to restrain CONSTANT JUSTICE. The Stewards questioned App AB Riduan as to why he had looked on his inside on 3 occasions at the 800M, 600M and the 475M when travelling on the outside of the leader, VOLCANIC GENERAL (S Ruzaini). He stated that he was concerned as he heard some “calling” from behind and that he did not want to interfere with any other runner. When questioned as to the reason he had shifted out on straightening, he stated that he had been instructed to take CONSTANT JUSTICE to the middle of the track in the straight as it resented any horses around it and any kickback. Trainer HY Cheng confirmed these instructions and reasoning.

The Stewards heard evidence from Jockey S Ruzaini (VOLCANIC GENERAL) and Jockey J Low (XENA). Jockey J Low advised that it was him that called at the 475M but only to encourage XENA. He agreed that it was fortuitous that CONSTANT JUSTICE had shifted out at this stage, as it had afforded XENA an uninterrupted passage.

In considering this matter in totality, the Stewards warned App AB Riduan that he must ride each race individually and with a view in maximizing his horse’s chances, further he ought not to be concerned in other runners’ preferred passage. Further, Trainer HY Cheng was advised that when he had multiple runners, he must instruct that each horse is ridden independently so as to maximize its chances.

SORBETA (J De Souza) and BURKAAN (Y Aify) were slow into stride.

HIGH COUNCIL (App N Varmah) raced wide in the middle stages.

LIM’S PERSHING (App AB Riduan) raced wide throughout, taking the turn into the straight wide.

BURKAAN was blocked for a run near the 250M and had to be steadied when GOD HELPS ME (S Ruzaini) drifted out passing the 150M. Jockey S Ruzaini was advised that he must keep his mounts straight.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza (SORBETA) advised that when crossed at the start by HANDSOME BENZ (HS Gill), he had eased SORBETA but the gelding had thrown its head and was reluctant to stride out resulting in him being at the tail of the field. He also advised that in his opinion, the 1100M was too short for SORBETA. Jockey HS Gill (HANDSOME BENZ) was warned that he must afford horses on his inside sufficient room at the start.

A post-race veterinary examination of LINCOLN MOONLIGHT (J Low) revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
