RACE 1 (R105) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

At the concluding stages, MURDOCH (O Chavez) was inclined to lay inwards, crowding WIRA SAKTI and brushed with the gelding near the 20M. Jockey O Chavez was reminded of his obligations to straighten his mount when he shifts.

An objection was lodged by Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of WIRA SAKTI, placed second, against MURDOCH (O Chavez), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at the concluding stages. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

App AR Aiman (JEFFREY) who was dislodged when pulling up, was examined by the Club Doctor who passed him fit to fulfill his riding engagements for the remainder of the races today.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of M SEVEN, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of M SEVEN (AK Lim) revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 3 (R107) OPEN MAIDEN – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

Prior to the start of this race, Jockey O Chavez (AMAZING ECLIPSE) reported to the Starter that his lead bag was sitting forward of the saddle, however, AMAZING ECLIPSE was very unruly and proved difficult to reset the saddle. Jockey O Chavez confirmed that he was satisfied to ride the mare with the lead bag in its position, given that it did not pose any risk.

JET TWENTY (App CK Khaw) dipped twice shortly after the start.

After being slow to begin, BANGALORE (App A Suriya) had to be ridden vigourously and to keep in touch.

AMAZING ECLIPSE (O Chavez) was slow into stride, thereafter raced wide from 900M till straightening and laid inwards in the straight. When questioned as to the performance of AMAZING ECLIPSE, Jockey O Chavez stated that the mare was unruly at the start and tended to lay outwards and subsequently missed the start. Although his instructions were to ride mid-to-back, he found himself in a rearward position and in a slow pace, and he had elected to go wide and forward from the 800M. Further, as AMAZING ECLIPSE had raced erratically in the straight, he had to stop and straighten on several occasions. Trainer F Maynard advised that AMAZING ECLIPSE was a very sensitive mare and may have been tested on the 1600M second up.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of FIRST SUCCESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 1050M,  he rolled in and crowded OSCAR ECLIPSE (J Low) which in turn shifted ground causing JET TWENTY to be restrained.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 27 January 2020 and to expire on 2 February 2020, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (7:11pm).

At the 1000M, BANGALORE and ICHIKA BACHIKA (Y Sakito) were buffeted with ICHIKA BACHIKA becoming unbalanced.

Between the 250M and the 100M, GLOBAL ARMY (App A Zaimuddin) and BEAUTIFUL ONE (App S Uzair) drifted in causing GHOST BAY (App R Nuqman) to be blocked and taken outwards to obtain a clear run.
