Furthermore, STARBOY which was positioned on his outside, was running in close proximity and in his view, restricted his ability to use the whip use. The Panel noted his explanation, however, he was reminded of his obligations to report all the circumstances which may have affected his mount in the race.

Jockey XC Liang (SUPER MANJUNG) was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare in this race, specifically the level of restraint he applied after securing a forward position in the early stages. In this regard, he explained that he was conscious today that this horse was stepping up in distance and still needed to finish its race off strongly. Therefore, it was always his intention to obtain cover after obtaining a forward position in the race. Upon acquiring the position on the rail, due to the circumstances of the race, he had to take significant hold in order to allow his mount to obtain cover as he felt that failing to take such a hold would result in his mount being in an unfavourable position and not having the opportunity to finish its race off strongly. The Panel noted his explanation, however, Jockey XC Liang’s tactical choices will continue to be monitored closely by the Stewards.

Jockey M Zaki (WESLEY WONDER) was questioned regarding the vigour of his ride in the straight. In this regard, he explained that due to his mount racing greenly, he attempted to strike a balance between his normal aggressive riding manner and educating the colt in this race as instructed. He explained that his horse was extremely green in the running and in the straight, ducked in away from the whip. He further explained that he had ridden WESLEY WONDER with head gear in trials and stated that racing without head gear in this race may have contributed to the colt racing more greenly than anticipated.

Trainer J Leck was also questioned by the Panel and confirmed the instructions on this horse. He also stated that he had entered WESLEY WONDER to race without any head gear in today’s race despite the colt racing in trials with head gear as this is the colt’s first time racing. The Panel noted his explanation.

Jockey M Zaki was nevertheless cautioned regarding the consistency of his riding, with his attention being drawn to the number of incidents in the recent weeks. He was further advised that should he appear before the Panel regarding a similar occurrence in the near future, more severe sanctions may follow.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 4 (R0798) CLASS 4B – 1020M (Track II +4), SATURDAY, 22 NOVEMBER 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2025

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App PH Seow, the rider of PACIFIC ANGEL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding PACIFIC ANGEL, she failed to ensure that she did not cause interference to STAR EIGHTY THREE which in turn interfered with SANTINO at the 500M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App PH Seow’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and her submissions on penalty. She was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 24 November 2025 and to expire on 6 December 2025, both dates inclusive.  In lieu of one (1) Malaysian race day, she was also fined RM1,500/-.  She was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 11 (R0805) CLASS 5A – 1800M (LC A6), SATURDAY, 22 NOVEMBER 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2025

Trainer CW Choi appeared before the Panel of Stewards and was questioned regarding the instructions and tactics adopted on HENNU STALL and LUCKY TO WIN. In this regard, he explained that for HENNU STALL, he had instructed the rider to obtain a forward position, and for LUCKY TO WIN, he had instructed the rider that the horse was very strong in the running in its last starts and therefore it must be a priority to have control. With regards to the pace of the race, he explained that these longer distance races, can be very inconsistent regarding the pace, so his instruction for HENNU STALL regarding how forward the horse would be placed, were impacted on how fast they could go in the running, however, for LUCKY TO WIN, control in the early part of the race was the priority. He further explained that in the race, his horses were both impacted by the loose horse and that he was of the view that Jockey R Woodworth’s decision not to contest the lead despite his horse being keen, was the correct decision as LUCKY TO WIN does have the tendency to over-race in the running and contesting the lead with it could realize the risk of a speed duel in becoming realistic.

Jockey R Woodworth appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his ride. In this regard, he explained that his instructions were to ideally obtain cover in the event that there was speed in the race. However, upon jumping, he noticed that his stable companion on the inside was very keen in the running and with his horse itself over-racing, he did not want to engage in a speed duel. Therefore, he elected to attempt to settle his mount, despite the pace of the race not being fast. When questioned regarding whether or not he could have gone forward and allowed his horse to stride more comfortably, when considering how difficult his horse was to settle, he explained that in the running, he was concerned that had he done so, it would have been extremely difficult to bring his horse back and settle, particularly due to how keen his horse was in the early part of the race. He was of the view that attempting to obtain cover behind his stable companion, affording his horse a chance to settle, would be the best option in order to outrun LUCKY TO WIN at the finish. The panel noted the explanation of Jockey R Woodworth. However, an inquiry was opened into his riding in respect of the consequences following from his easing of the pace whilst in the one-off line.

In this regard, Jockey R Woodworth, the rider of HENNU STALL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at the 1600M, whilst riding HENNU STALL, he unreasonably slowed the pace which resulted in SHOW HAND (S John) becoming tightened for galloping room which in turn clipped heels with RAGING RABBIT (R Iskandar) resulting in Jockey R Iskandar being dislodged.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey R Woodworth’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 24 November 2025 and to expire on 14 December 2025, both dates inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Jockey XC Liang (LUCKY TO WIN) appeared before the panel and was questioned regarding his decision to adopt a hold which maintained heavy restraint on the gelding in the running. In this regard, he explained that as this horse had a tendency to over-race and the feedback from the Trainer was to settle this horse early as a priority. Despite his mount pulling in the running, he explained that he was satisfied that he had the horse settled enough and was giving it the best opportunity to finish its race off strongly. The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey XC Liang. However, it did draw his attention to the fact that under different circumstances, his ride may not have been as permissible.
