Threw its head up at the start, losing considerable ground. In this incident, Apprentice was struck in the face. In light of this, the gelding will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again. Raced fiercely, tending to lay outwards at the turn near the 950M.

Turned its head when the start was effected, putting his nose in the adjoining stall, then jumped awkwardly, losing considerable ground. 1 Starting Stall.

Had to be taken outwards near the 250M in order to obtain a clear run. Vet inspection: Laceration on the near fore arm – Vet exam.

When presented in the paddock, it was ascertained that the surcingle of I’M THE MAN (V Espindola) was omitted from the horse’s equipment albeit that the rider had weighed out with all his gear. However, this was quickly rectified. Trainer HY Cheng was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 35(1) for failing to ensure that I’M THE MAN was properly equipped.

An objection was lodged by Trainer WC Lim, the Trainer of TIN’S MACHINE (App M Lukman), placed second, against KHAN PEGASUS (Y Aify), being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 200M. The Panel of Stewards dismissed the objection.

An objection was lodged by Trainer S Hamilton, the Trainer of SILVER JOY (MM Firdaus), placed fourth, against TIN’S MACHINE (App M Lukman), placed second alleging interference at about the 200M. The Panel of Stewards dismissed the objection.

App K Pavinthran, the rider of ARTEMISIA OF CARIA, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to utilize his claim fully.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of KHAN PEGASUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed KHAN PEGASUS to shift in and tighten TIN’S MACHINE which restrained onto SILVER JOY which checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, with effect from 8 May 2023 and to expire on 14 May 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the 400M, BLOOD ROYAL (App KH Chong) fell and GUILTY PLEASURES (CK Khaw) fell when attempting to jump the fallen horse. CONSTANT JUSTICE (App A Nazir) was severely inconvenienced when avoiding the fallen horses. BAD BOYS (App M Lukman) veered outwards at this stage. Both fallen riders were transported to hospital. An inquiry will be conducted at a later stage.

As both ambulances were required to despatch the fallen riders to hospital, the remainder of the races were subsequently abandoned at 4:35pm.

 GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

INQUIRY INTO A REPORT RELATING TO A POST-RACE URINE SAMPLE CODED “34819” TAKEN FROM THE HORSE “NORTHERN KNIGHT” WHICH FINISHED FIRST IN RACE 8 ON SUNDAY, 2 APRIL 2023 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2023 

The Stewards conducted an inquiry into the above matter on Friday, 5 May 2023 at the Selangor Turf Club. Evidence was taken from Assistant Trainer Nagarajan a/l Supromaniam, Acting on behalf of Trainer MP Thwaites (Trainer of NORTHERN KNIGHT) who was absent, Dr Shri Kanth (Senior Veterinary Surgeon of SLTC) and Dr Chan Sue Hay (Chief Analyst of Usains Biomics). 

Assistant Trainer Nagarajan a/l Supromaniam was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) for presenting NORTHERN KNIGHT which won in Race 8 on Sunday, 2 April 2023 at the Selangor Turf Club, and its post-race urine sample was found to contain “flunixin”. 

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the nature of the drug involved, Assistant Trainer Nagarajan’s mitigating factors and previous record. He was fined RM12,000/- and was advised of his Right of Appeal. 

After considering the evidence, the Stewards disqualified NORTHERN KNIGHT from the race under the provisions of MRA Rule 134(11) and the placings were amended:

APPEAL BY JOCKEY RUZAINI BIN SUPIEN (S RUZAINI) AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF TWO (2) MONTHS FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE PANEL OF STEWARDS RELATED TO HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “EMPHATIC” IN RACE 4 (R212) ON SATURDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2023 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2023 

The Selangor Turf Club Appeal Panel heard the above appeal on Tuesday, 25 April 2023.

After considering submissions from Jockey S Ruzaini and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Appeal Panel dismissed the appeal against the conviction under MRA Rule 44(10). 

On the issue of penalty, the Appeal Panel confirmed the penalty of two (2) months suspension, until the 5th May 2023. 

The deposit was forfeited.


APPEAL BY JOCKEY RUZAINI BIN SUPIEN (S RUZAINI) AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF THREE (3) MONTHS AND FINE OF RM20,000/- FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE PANEL OF STEWARDS RELATED TO HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “INHERIT” IN RACE 5 (R213) ON SATURDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2023 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2023

The Selangor Turf Club Appeal Panel heard the above appeal on Tuesday, 25 April 2023.

After considering submissions from Jockey S Ruzaini and the trainer of INHERIT, Trainer HY Cheng and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Appeal Panel dismissed the appeal against the conviction under MRA Rule 44(10).

On the issue of penalty, the Appeal Panel reduced the suspension to a period of two (2) months and the fine to RM10,000/- and ordered that it be served concurrently with any other penalty, until 5th May 2023. 

The deposit was ordered to be refunded. 


WEDNESDAY, 3 MAY 2023, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL 7

Jockey E Ferreira (QAFILA) and Jockey S Hafis (VIZIER) were reprimanded for failing to present their mounts for the post-trial veterinary trot-up.

SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2023                                                                       

The report dated 20 April 2023 (V23/054) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 37 coded urine and 39 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 16 April 2023, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
