SUNDAY, 15 DECEMBER 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding

[Course A: Following a track inspection by the Stipendiary Stewards and Track Manager under the provisions of MRA Rule 12(2)(a), it was determined that the distances of 1400M on the long course and 1200M on the short course (starting from the same position), will be approximately 20M shorter to ensure a stable starting point.]

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr Edwards Samuel.

RACE 1 (R1567) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (Approx) (LONG COURSE A)

MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) and LADY LIBERTY (R Rueven) were slow into stride.

In the early stages, SGFIFTY (AK Lim) raced wide. TRINITY DRAGON (SU Lim) was inclined to lay outwards from the 700M, and drifted wide in the straight.

MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) shifted in between 300M and the 150M, causing MUSANG KING (S Anandan) to be steadied.

GOLD POWER (R Shafiq) carried MR CONNERY (App L De Souza) in marginally passing the 200M.

TWENTYSIXTWELVE (C Goon) veered outwards at the start, carrying MY GOODNESS (SU Lim) out onto WINNING TANGO (S Muniandy). Jockey C Goon was reminded of his obligations to straighten his mounts as quickly as possible.

LINCOLN CITY (O Chavez) was slow into stride and then steadied off the heels of SHANGHAI NIGHTS (HS Gill).

ORION (R Shafiq) raced wide in the early stages.

SWEET LODGE (S Anandan) was impeded near the 300M and had to be taken outwards to obtain a clear run and then shifted in near the 50M, crowding ORION. Jockey S Anandan was reprimanded for failing to straighten quickly.

Jockey S Muniandy, the rider of WINNING TANGO, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of WINNING TANGO revealed no significant finding.

When questioned as to why he was so far back. Jockey O Chavez (LINCOLN CITY) advised that he had been instructed to ride the gelding in a rearward position and had found that LINCOLN CITY was disinterested in the race. He had pushed the gelding from the 1000M fearing that he was losing his position.

Trainer AB Abdullah confirmed his instructions and advised that LINCOLN CITY has never shown pace. He was of the opinion that the gelding is now better suited over a longer distance, and he would endeavour to find a suitable longer race.

When questioned as to his riding tactics, Jockey J Low (D’GREAT TIMING) stated that he had been instructed to not use D’GREAT TIMING up in the early stages, and due to his big weight, he had been able to work into the race but found the pace slow from about the 700M and proceeded forward. Although making ground, he had been impeded in the straight.

Acting on veterinary advice that HAYTHAM (Z Khairil) was lame off fore, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding 3:04pm. HAYTHAM will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

BIG BUS (C Goon) fly-jumped at the start.

TAIL SPIN (S Salee) raced wide in the middle stages. When questioned, Jockey S Salee advised that BIG BUS had kicked up on the inside and held him wide and he had been unable to proceed forward or to restrain behind BIG BUS. As such he was obliged to race wide to maintain his momentum.

The Stewards questioned Jockey SU Lim (ASTRO MAN) as to why he had restrained in the early stages, thereby allowing BAKUTEH (S Muniandy) an easy lead. He stated that he had been instructed to ride ASTRO MAN in a forward position and lead if able to do so easily. He had not wished to push ASTRO MAN when BAKUTEH had progressed on his outside and he steadied when crossed by that gelding.

The Stewards advised Jockey SU Lim that they considered he had restrained ASTRO MAN too readily and he was expected in future to ride a more diligent race when presented opportunity to lead easily.

App L De Souza, the rider of HAPPY BOX SIX, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of HAPPY BOX SIX revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of MARTIN VJ revealed no significant finding.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that on straightening, FUSION POWER (J Low) shifted out, bumping PROVOCATEUR (S Salee) outwards which in turn interfered with METAGROSS (App L De Souza).
