RACE 1 (R290)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE) 

NOVA PHOENIX (SU Lim) shifted inwards at the start, inconvenienced CATCH ME GREAT (J Low).

AIR POWER (L De Souza) was slow into stride.

After jumping moderately, LET’S COME ON BABY (S Ruzaini) had to steady off the heels of WINNING TANGO (App N Varmah) and when restrained, again had to steady FLEDGELING (KC WONG).

Approaching the 800M, WINNING TANGO (App N Varmah) which was pulling hard, eased off ELITE CONQUEROR (App R Nuqman). 

On returning to the paddock, ELITE CONQUEROR collapsed and expired. Samples were taken from ELITE CONQUEROR. 

The Stewards questioned Trainer HY Cheng and Jockey S Ruzaini into the performance of LET’S COME ON BABY (S Ruzaini). Trainer HY Cheng advised that he instructed the gelding to be ridden midfield as it had failed when racing in the lead or prominently. Jockey S Ruzaini stated that he was tightened at the start and then had put him further back than he had wished, and he was then forced wide by AIR POWER. He further advised that LET’S COME ON BABY was inclined to resent the kickbacks and felt uncomfortable in the going. A post-race veterinary examination of LET’S COME ON BABY revealed no significant finding. In light performances, Trainer HY Cheng was advised that LET’S COME ON BABY will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again. 

RACE 2 (R291)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE)

M SEVEN (App M Lukman) was slow into stride.

ICHIKA BACHIKA (R Shafiq) veered outwards, inconveniencing BELIEVER (App A Suriya) which made contact with ALL WHITE (App Clyde Leck).

In the run to the 1000M, WE’RE THE WORLD (App A Zaimuddin) raced fiercely and near the 850M, BELIEVER, when steadied off its heels, shifted in, crowding ICHIKA BACHIKA  

The Stewards opened an inquiry into Jockey HS Gill’s ride on ELITE BEAST in the straight. The inquiry was adjourned to Wednesday, 14 April 2021 at 2pm.

LUCKY TIGER (App AB Riduan) veered outwards at the start, causing LA FAMILIA (KC Wong) to lose ground and bumped with WILLIAM KING (HS Gill).  

A post-race veterinary examination of FIRSTPASSTHEPOST (App WW Cheah) revealed that it was lame off fore and cast its near fore plate. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

 RACE 5 (R294)         CLASS 4 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE) 

LIM’S TORPEDO (App WW Cheah) shifted in at the start, crowding MARTIN VJ (S Ruzaini) which had to be restrained, losing ground and subsequently having to be ridden rearward.  

STARDICE (S Salee) jumped with his head in the air.   

After being slow to begin, MARTIN VJ was obliged to race wide.

In the middle stages, PEARL DANCER (C Goon) and HARVEYWALLBANGER (CK Khaw) raced wide. 

MICHAEL LEARNSTOROCK (J Daniel) raced greenly in the early stages. 

BANG BANG (KC Wong) hung inwards when struck with the whip and near the 100M, bumped LIM’S TORPEDO (App WW Cheah). 

Approaching the winning post, WORLD HARMONY (R Rueven) drifted out at the same time as BANG BANG hung inwards, and shortly after, the geldings bumped. 

A post-race veterinary examination of STARDICE revealed no significant finding.

RACE 6 (R295)         CLASS 4 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

AMANA (J Low) veered outwards at the start, bumping heavily with PEER GYNT (S Ruzaini) which shifted in, crowding HORSEH (HS Gill). FIRST PRECINCT (R Shafiq) was inconvenienced, losing ground.

GAIN ECLIPSE (App A Nazir) jumped with its head in the air.

CHINO DINERO (Y Aify) was forced to race wide in the middle stages.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of PEER GYNT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that running to the 950M, he allowed his horse to shift in and tighten AMANA (J Low) which had to be checked when striking the hind-quarters of HORSEH which also had to be restrained.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 19 April 2021 and to expire on 2 May 2021, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

A post-race veterinary examination of BIG BUS (App A Zaimuddin) revealed that it was lame off fore. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 8 (R297)         CLASS 4  (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE) 

ME NO MARSH MELLOW (J Daniel) threw its head in the air at the start, losing considerable ground.

In the run to the first turn, KITA TEAMWORK (J Low) over-raced and threw its head for a considerable distance.

BLUE HAWAII (App N Varmah) raced wide throughout.

Near the 475M, PERFECT RUN (L De Souza) steadied when FIRST COMMAND (R Shafiq) rolled in.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of EBRAZ (W Faizal). After taking evidence from the Trainer AB Abdullah and Jockey W Faizal, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to Wednesday, 14 April 2021 at 2:45pm.

A post-race veterinary examination of KITA TEAMWORK revealed that the mare returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 9 (R298)         CLASS 4 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE)

BAHAMA MAMA (J Daniel) dwelt at the start, losing considerable ground. Trainer MW Teh was advised that BAHAMA MAMA will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again. 

In the middle stages, STRAP MARKS (S Ruzaini) raced wide. 

The saddle on GRAND CHOICE (App A Suriya) shifted backwards slightly and App A Suriya dropped his off side rein. When questioned, App A Suriya advised that he had attempted to hold GRAND CHOICE inwards, however, the gelding was inclined to lay out. In light of this, App A Suriya was referred to specific retraining. 

Approaching the 100M, HOWL (SU Lim) rolled in and crowded LEO (KC Wong) which in turn made contact with the hind-quarters of BAHAMA MAMA (J Daniel). Jockey SU Lim was warned that he must straighten his mount when they shift. 

Post-race veterinary examinations of MAGNUM KING (HS Gill) and HOWL revealed that the geldings bled and will each be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SO THE THING (R Rueven) revealed that it was lame off fore. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 10 (R299)       CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

Trainer T Asogan was fined RM1000/- for failing to ensure the vaccination of STAGE THE STAGE is updated under the provisions of MRA Regulation 20.3 as read with MRA Regulation 20.6. STAGE THE STAGE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4:30pm, when it was ascertained that the vaccination records were incomplete. 

SAND BANK (J De Souza) reared, striking the outside gate on jumping. 

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey CK Khaw, the rider of ASIA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that shortly after the start, he shifted in, crowding VETRI NAMATHE (L De Souza) which in turn caused TRINITY TARZAN (App R Nuqman) to be restrained.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey CK Khaw’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 12 April 2021 and to expire on 25 April 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal. 

Over the concluding 150M, Jockey J Low permitted STRONG N BRAVE to drift out with the whip in his left hand. He was advised that he must straight his mounts more quickly.

Shortly after the start, LEE’S STAR and SUPER LINE (HS Gill) made contact.

LEE’S STAR and THAI BHAT (C Goon) raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 250M, WINDOW OF TIME (App M Lukman) drifted out under the whip, carrying LEE’S STAR wide.

WASHINGTON (S Zulfikri) was impeded for a clear run in the straight.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 9 (R233) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 27 MARCH 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2021 

The Stewards, on 7 April 2021 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into Jockey C Goon’s riding of ATTENTION in the above race. Evidence was taken from the gelding’s trainer and rider, Trainer SY Lim and Jockey C Goon respectively. 

After reviewing the films and considering the evidence, Jockey C Goon was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that he failed to put any pressure on ATTENTION in an endeavour to secure a reasonable position in the early stages, and thereby had to ride ATTENTION wide in a mid-rear position. 

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Goon’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months to be served consecutively with any other current penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal. 

Further, Trainer SY Lim was reprimanded for failing to fulfill his obligations under MRA Rule 35(7) in that he did not report to the Stewards relating to a minor condition which he considered may have affected the performance of ATTENTION in that particular race. 

Trainer SY Lim was also warned that he must adhere to the provisions of MRA Rule 35(8) with regards to the specific instructions given and the time frame for such. 

Jockey C Goon subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a Stay which was granted. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

The report dated 25 March 2021 (V21/014) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 61 bottles of coded urine samples and 73 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 14 March 2021, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

The report dated 8 April 2021 (V21/018) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 66 bottles of coded urine samples and 68 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 28 March 2021, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

The report dated 8 April 2021 (V21/019) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 4 bottles of coded urine samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 28 March 2021, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.


GENERAL REPORTS (PNTC) – FRIDAY, 9TH APRIL 2021 

RACE 8 (R211) RAPID STAKES A (SW) – 1200M, SUNDAY, 21ST MARCH 2021, PENANG MARCH MEETING 2021 

With reference to the report dated 1st April 2021 (V21/016) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory that Sample with Sample Coding No. 35341 revealed the presence of Testosterone and after establishing that this Sample was reported to have been taken from MAGIC CITY (C424) trained by Trainer T Asogan, the Club Veterinary Surgeon on 6th April 2021 confirmed that MAGIC CITY was verified as a “rig”.  

In addition, the Chief Analyst confirmed that their finding was consistent with the Testosterone level associated with a “rig”.. 

The Stewards were satisfied that the levels of the endogenous substance Testosterone in the Post-Race Samples of MAGIC CITY was consistent with the fact that the horse was a “rig”. 

No further action was taken and MAGIC CITY has been cleared for racing.  


INQUIRY INTO TRAINER HS LIM’S APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION AND EMPLOYMENT OF A SYCE   

The Stewards today (9th April 2021) concluded an Inquiry into the above matter.  Evidence was taken from Trainer HS Lim.

Trainer HS Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 152(3)(a) in that on 26th January 2021 he submitted an application (MRA Form SE1) for the registration and employment of Mr. T Jayabala a/l Tannimalai (NRIC 540405-07-5025) as a Syce, in contravention of the said rule and the application failed to meet the criteria as a Syce and in so doing, he had acted in a manner which in the opinion of the Stewards, is prejudicial to the integrity and proper conduct of horse racing in Malaysia.   

When deciding on the penalty, the Stewards took into account Trainer HS Lim’s guilty plea and his mitigating factors.  He was fined the sum of RM1,000/- and informed of his Right of Appeal (2.45 pm).


RACE 1 (R256) CLASS 5(A) – 1600m (lc) JAYA BARU HANDICAP, SUNDAY,

4TH APRIL 2021, DAY 2, PERAK APRIL MEETING 2021  

The Panel of Stewards opened an Inquiry into the riding of Jockey HK Cheng (CLOUD SHADOW)  and trained by Trainer CC Ooi.  After taking evidence from Trainer CC Ooi, the trainer of CLOUD SHADOW, Jockey HK Cheng and reviewing the video of the race, Jockey HK Cheng pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Panel of Stewards, in that from about the1400M to the 600M, he permitted CLOUD SHADOW to race unnecessarily wide when there was an opportunity to get a better position in the race.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey HK Cheng’s guilty plea, disciplinary record and mitigating factors.  Jockey HK was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months, with effect from Monday, 5th April 2021 and to expire on Friday, 4th June 2021, both dates inclusive.   He was advised of his right of appeal (4.40pm).

Jockey HK Cheng subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal against the penalty on 6th April 2021 and applied for stay of sentence.  On 8th April 2021, he sought permission to withdraw the appeal which was granted by the Panel of Stewards and his deposit was refunded.
