STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT
SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2017
SATURDAY, 17 JUNE 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Philip Anderson (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R771) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE C)

STREET CHAMP (M Zairi) was slow to begin.

SPARKLER (S Ruzaini) shifted in on jumping away, contacting SEA MASTER (App KC Wong) which was taken in onto CHAMPAGNE ROSE (SS Vanan) which was checked.

SPARKLER shifted in passing the 800M resulting in ESPERANZA (App SU Lim) being taken inwards, causing JUST VITAL (App KP Lim) to be checked and shift outwards abruptly resulting in CHINESE SILHOUETTE (App W Faizal) and CHAMPAGNE ROSE being checked and taken wider on the track. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of SPARKLER, was shown the film of the incident and warned that he would be expected to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

Racing to the 100M, WILL BE BETTER (App AK Lim) was disappointed for a run on the inside of UNCLE GLORY (C Goon) and had to shift out across the heels of that horse to obtain a clear run.

App KP Lim was questioned into why he left the Jockeys’ Room without permission. He was submitted to a Breathalyzer test and was warned not to leave the Jockeys’ area until he has completed his rides.

RACE 2 (R772) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE C)

FULL BET (SS Vanan) jumped away awkwardly and brushed the inside and outside of the gates and was slow into stride as a result.

LONESOME ME (App AK Lim) jumped away awkwardly and bumped HERE COMES THUNDER (App M Hanif).

LIM’S RANGER (App A Zaimuddin) was disappointed for a clear run when racing tight on the inside of HAPPY FAMILY (J Shankar) from about the 150M until approaching the winning post.

The Stewards questioned Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of FULL BET, and he informed the Stewards that the instruction was to be midfield which was confirmed by the Trainer’s Instruction Form. He stated that as reported, he brushed the inside and outside of the gates and as a result, was slow into stride. He elected to settle the mare and improve from the 600M, and in the straight when he put FULL BET under the whip, it failed to respond to his riding. The Stewards also questioned Trainer C Leck, the Trainer of FULL BET, who confirmed the instructions. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination of FULL BET revealed no significant finding.

RACE 8 (R686) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE C), SATURDAY, 27 MAY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2017

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons why Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SEGAR THE BEST, failed to ride his horse out to the finish of the race. He reported that the gelding was not striding out freely and as a consequence, he was concerned with its actions and did not ride it out in his normal manner.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 3
SLTC, Saturday, 17 June 2017

Jockey HS Gill was shown the vision of the race and advised in terms of MRA Rule 44(6) that in future he would be expected to ride all his horses out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. In relation to the Club Medical Officer’s report on that day, he was given a “benefit of the doubt” and warned that in future, action would be taken against him.
