SELANGOR TURF CLUB

SATURDAY, 17 FEBRUARY 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward)

RACE 1 (R208) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GOLDEN PROSPERITY STAKES

VAGABOND (App L De Souza) was slow to find its stride.

MYSTIC WARRIOR (HS Gill) threw its head up on jumping and had to be corrected. MYSTIC WARRIOR continued to carry its head high throughout the race.

RACE 2 (R209) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

BEST OF LUCK STAKES

TAIL SPIN (J Mallyon) knuckled leaving the stalls and was slowly away as a consequence.

GOLDEN DRAGON (Lou Ho) was slow to find its stride. At about the 350M, GOLDEN DRAGON switched inwards to obtain a clear passage.

GHOST AFFAIR (App P Haris) raced in a mid-to-back position, was shifted wide to challenge in the straight and finished wide out. A post-race veterinary examination of GHOST AFFAIR revealed no significant finding.  The Stewards will open an inquiry into the running and handling of GHOST AFFAIR at a date to be fixed.

RACE 3 (R210) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

LUCKY STAR STAKES

FAST RICH (S Sandana) was slowly away.

ORIENTIAL SPIRIT (Lou Ho) was slow to find its stride.

CHIPS (App AM Aizat) raced without cover in the early stages and got its head up.

At about the 900M, ORIENTAL SPIRIT was taken wide in order to make progress and was thereafter trapped wide on the track. ORIENTAL SPIRIT compounded badly in the last 300M.

DROUGHT (Z Khairil) raced in rear before making late progress. When questioned, Jockey Z Khairil reported to the Stewards that DROUGHT had been outpaced when the tempo of the race increased at about the 800M and had then finished strongly, passing beaten rivals. He added that DROUGHT is better suited by a longer distance and showed a tendency to lay in under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of DROUGHT revealed no significant finding.

From the 200M, ECLIPSE DANCER (S Ruzaini) commenced to shift out under pressure.

BEST WISHES STAKES

D’GREAT NIMBUS (J De Souza) and NOVA ACE (Lou Ho) were both slowly away.

AUSONE (HS Gill) shifted out under pressure from about the 250M and shifted across FLYING AHEAD (App W Faizal) at about the 150M when just barely clear. After taking evidence from Jockey HS Gill and reviewing the vision of the incident, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey HS Gill for failing to respect the “two-length” standard when crossing his rivals.

D’GREAT NIMBUS had a tendency to shift in under pressure causing the jockey to correct and ride with hands and heels only in the last few strides.

SKYHAWK (S Ruzaini) displayed an inclination to race with her head up. Trainer C Leck reported to the Stewards that this represented the mare’s normal racing manners and appears to be a fixed tendency

RACE 6 (R213) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

OVER FLOWING WEALTH STAKES

LISBOA STAR (App L De Souza) shifted out at about the 150M and brushed CELERITAS.

At about the 100M, MR WOLFF (App S Uzair) laid in and brushed the rails causing the rider to change his whip to the left hand at about the 50M.

At about the 50M, CELERITAS commenced to lay in under pressure and in the last few strides, JERAM VILLAGE (S Sandana) shifted outwards, causing LISBOA STAR to be tightened between them on the line.

RACE 7 (R214) MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

HAPPINESS & LONGEVITY STAKES

SPECIAL LUCK (SU Lim) jumped inwards causing FIREPUBLICGAME (M Ganeesh) to be taken inwards which in turn caused BULL SPUR (App P Haris) to be eased to avoid the heels of FIREPUBLICGAME and lose its position as a consequence.

KING OPERA (S Ruzaini) and ASHQAR (O Chavez) bumped on jumping. Shortly afterwards, WHAT (App W Faizal) rolled inwards despite the rider’s efforts, causing KING OPERA to be awkwardly placed on its heels. As a consequence, KING OPERA was eased and lost its early position.

At about the 300M, ROGER (Z Khairil) laid out causing HAPPY DAYZ (App KC Wong) to be eased in order to avoid his heels and then to be switched inwards to obtain clear running. ROGER thereafter continued to carry his head to the right side. The Stewards reviewed the incident and determined that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

In the last 200M, BULL SPUR laid out under pressure and finished wide.

RACE 10 (R217) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

CHINESE NEW YEAR STAKES

DEE MAJULAH (S Anandan) jumped outwards and bumped D’GREAT MAGIC (App KC Wong). As a consequence, DEE MAJULAH lost his position and was unable to take the lead as instructed.

When questioned, Jockey S Anandan stated that DEE MAJULAH was held in the barrier for a long time and just gave an ordinary jump. Thereafter he found himself on the heels of D’GREAT MAGIC which shifted inwards and crowded him. He was eventually able to obtain a handy position in fourth but was rather disappointed by DEE MAJULAH’s response in the straight. He added that DEE MAJULAH may have been unsuited by the rain-affected going. A post-race veterinary examination of DEE MAJULAH revealed no significant finding.

SPARKLER (App CK Khaw) was disappointed for a run between the 300M and the 200M, and was switched out to obtain clear running at about the 200M.

LIM’S RANGER (HS Gill) was switched outwards to obtain clear running at about the 200M but was unable to do so, and had to be slightly eased at about the 75M to avoid the heels of EAGLESHAM (Lou Ho).
