RACE 5 (R261)         METRO A – 2000M (SHORT COURSE A)

SEA WORLD (App L De Souza) over-raced between the 1600M and the 1400M.

At about the 1400M, SEA WORLD attempted to switch outwards to obtain clear running but was unable to find sufficient racing room on the inside of FORTUNIQUE (R Woodworth). There was brief contact between SEA WORLD and FORTUNIQUE, causing SEA WORLD to become unbalanced, losing 2 lengths. The Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

RACE 6 (R262)         CLASS 4 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

CHIPS (App AM Aizat) and CATCH ME GREAT (App AK Lim) were both slow to begin.

CHIPS was urged to recover from his slow start but soon ran onto the heels of THE MILLIONAIRE (S Anandan) and had to be shifted outwards.

SEGAR THE BEST (HS Gill) raced wide from the 900M in order to obtain a forward position.

Jockey TK Barnabas, the rider of HIGH TROJA, dropped his right rein approaching the 300M and although he regained it shortly afterwards, was unbalanced until just before the 200M. As Jockey TK Barnabas attempted to rebalance, HIGH TROJA shifted outwards, causing THE MILLIONAIRE to be crowded between himself and D’GREAT VULTURE (App KC Wong).

At about the 200M, FRANKLY MY DEAR (Y Aify) began to compound and in doing so, shifted inwards causing ARECIBO (App L De Souza) and ASPEN (SU Lim) to be taken inwards in response. Thereafter ASPEN was corrected and shifted outwards which caused ARECIBO to be shifted marginally outwards. The Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

RACE 8 (R264)          CLASS 4 – 1800M (LONG COURSE A)

                                    MYDORA CUP

The start was delayed as ENCOSTA ZONE (Z Khairil) was difficult to be loaded. The mare will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

At about the 1100M, FAST RICH (S Sandana) crossed to the rail in front of ENCOSTA ZONE when not clear, causing ENCOSTA ZONE to check and NOVA POWER (S Ruzaini) which was behind ENCOSTA ZONE, to be checked in turn.

The Stewards enquired into this incident and heard evidence from Jockey S Sandana, the rider of FAST RICH, that his mount was over-racing and that he had taken evasive action in order to avoid running onto the heels of BLOOD ROYAL (App AK Lim). The Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 1600M, NOVA POWER (S Ruzaini) commenced to over-race and refused to settle in rear.

Between the 300M and the 200M, KARIGARA (App L De Souza) laid inwards under pressure, forcing the jockey to ease and correct the drift. KARIGARA subsequently shifted abruptly away from the left hand whip, and shifted out between the 200M and the 100M.

RACE 9 (R265)         CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

HAWAIIAN KING (App W Faizal) turned outwards on jumping, briefly lost its footing, became unbalanced and was slow to find its stride as a consequence.

At the 1300M, BROWCOW (HK Cheng) commenced to over-race and shift outwards whereupon it continued to over-race without cover until the 1000M.

At about the 1200M, LIM’S SPRINT (App P Haris) threw its head up in response to being crossed by MR WOLFF (I Saifudin).

At about the 500M, LIM’S SPRINT began to lay outwards and despite the jockey’s efforts, brushed with LUCKY DAPPER (Z Khairil) at about the 400M, causing LUCKY DAPPER and MR WOLFF to be carried slightly outwards. LIM’S SPRINT continued to lay out under pressure until the finish, on several occasions coming close to LUCKY DAPPER. App P Haris, the rider of LIM’S SPRINT, was shown the vision of the incident and advised by the Stewards that under similar circumstances in future, he should attempt to switch his whip hand.

At about the 200M, HAWAIIAN KING laid outwards under pressure causing the jockey to ease and correct.

At about the 75M, LIM’S SPRINT shifted abruptly outwards when shying away from HAWAIIAN KING. This caused LUCKY DAPPER to be taken outwards and MR WOLFF to be eased to avoid the heels of LUCKY DAPPER.

RED EMPRESS (App P Haris) was slow to begin.

In the early stages, SHARP BLADE (S Ruzaini) was bumped by MUSANG KING (S Sandana) which was carried inwards by FIREPUBLICGAME (R Woodworth). Jockey R Woodworth was shown the vision of the incident and warned by the Stewards to take more care when shifting inwards shortly after the start.

From the 250M, SHARP BLADE commenced to lay outwards under pressure and finished wide out.

At about the 200M, SUPER BUFFALO (I Saifudin) shifted inwards under pressure, causing TARZAN (App S Uzair) to be shifted inwards in response.

SILVER MAN which was beaten 26 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

RACE 11 (R267)       CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

FULL MEANING (Lou Ho) jumped awkwardly outwards and threw its head up. Shortly after the start, FULL MEANING commenced to over-race.

SPEED CRAFT (S Anandan) was very slow to begin.

TAKEAIM (App P Haris) was slow to begin.

At about the 1200M, ONCE A THIEF (I Saifudin) commenced to over-race in response to FULL MEANING over-racing on his outside. These two horses brushed together at about the 1100M and thereafter ONCE A THIEF became unbalanced and raced ungenerously until the 900M.

At about the 100M, TAIL SPIN (J Mallyon) was eased to avoid the heels of NOVA SPIRIT (App AM Aizat) which rolled in.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 5 (R251) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 24 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 25 February 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of GAZOO which raced in a mid-to-back position before making some late progress. Evidence was taken from App AM Aizat, the rider of GAZOO, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard, and Trainer SB Tan, the Trainer of GAZOO.

App AM Aizat explained that he had intended to take a handy position, but the wide barrier made this difficult. He added that the saddle slipped badly on STAR INVINCIBLE (App N Varmah), which was racing directly in front of him from the 900M and he could see that the rider had very little control. He therefore decided not to attempt to pass STAR INVINCIBLE as he feared that it might shift abruptly or that the rider might become unseated.

App AM Aizat stated that when STAR INVINCIBLE was eventually pulled to the outside at about the 600M, he attempted to make progress but by that stage, the race had got away from him.

Having heard his evidence, the Stewards took no further action.

RACE 10 (R256) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SATURDAY, 24 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

At the conclusion of an inquiry on 25 February 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, App S Saddam, the rider of RAINBOW STAR, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer PS Kumaran, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 1200M, he failed to allow sufficient space to the horses on his inside and failed to take all reasonable corrective measures to prevent his horse from drifting in.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Saddam’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App S Saddam’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 5 March 2018 and to expire on 11 March 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (1:05pm).

RACE 1 (R247) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 24 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

Jockey HS Gill (LIM’S RANGER) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was allowed. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of two (2) Malaysian race days will be held at a date to be fixed.

 RACE 5 (R251) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 24 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

Trainer C Leck was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 35(1) for failing to ensure that the surcingle on STAR INVINCIBLE (App N Varmah) was in suitable condition. STAR INVINCIBLE was eased to the outside in an attempt to pull up at about the 800M after the saddle slipped.

Trainer C Leck was also fined RM500/- under MRA Regulation 1.13(d) as he failed to meet his obligation under MRA Regulation 1.13(d) in that having engaged an Apprentice to ride STAR INVINCIBLE, he was the person responsible for ensuring that the Apprentice’s equipment was not defective.

RACE 7 (R253) METRO A – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SATURDAY, 24 FEBRUARY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2018

Trainer F Maynard was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 105(2) for requesting for a change of rider when one was already declared on ROYAL EXPLORER. He explained that Jockey J Mallyon had been declared in error. The change was authorized by the Stewards at 11:30am on Wednesday, 21 February 2018.
