RACE 2 (R1548)       CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

BLADEMEISTER (WK Yan) was slowly away.

UNME (App S Saddam) was slowly away, was urged to make up ground and as a result, began to over-race and clipped the heels of BOWEN BOY (I Saifudin) causing UNME to dip and the rider to be unbalanced.

Approaching the 1100M, UNION JAC (Z Khairil) showed a tendency to over-race on the inside. As the rider attempted to check him in order to take a lead from PISCES JET (App J Daniel), the gelding shifted out, clipped the heels of PISCES JET and blundered badly. As a result, UNION JAC slipped and bumped AUREUS (Lou Ho) on his outside, pushing AUREUS wider and causing EMPEROR WARRIOR (SU Lim) which was crowded between KARIGARA (App L De Souza) and AUREUS, to be badly squeezed and Jockey SU Lim to become badly unbalanced. The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into these incidents to a date to be fixed.

Jockey SU Lim lost his right side stirrup iron as a result of this incident and did not regain it until the home straight, thus was unable to ride EMPEROR WARRIOR with his full vigour and stop him from hanging out.

CAMERA STELLATA (J Mallyon) which had been placed on the heels of EMPEROR WARRIOR, was forced to take evasive action and switch out.

KARIGARA laid inwards in the last 200M.

LEAP OF FAITH (App J Daniel) was slow to find its stride.

AIR POWER (App CK Khaw) over-raced in the first 400M.

FLYING AHEAD (I Saifudin) took a keen hold throughout and over-raced between the 700M and the 400M.

D’ GREAT OPULENT (HK Cheng) shifted in abruptly approaching the 400M, raced awkwardly and lost ground as a consequence.

At about the 300M, LIM’S BATTLE (HS Gill) was switched out to obtain clear running but was briefly disappointed.

RACE 5 (R1551)       CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

MAGICAL BANKER (S Uzair) was slowly away.

GOLDEN DRAGON (Lou Ho) laid inwards shortly after the jump and crowded LIM’S ADMIRAL (App WK Lee) which lost its position as a result.

ABSOLUTE MAVERICK (Z Khairil) raced wide throughout.

At about the 250M, KUTTNER (F Yap) commenced to lay in under a right-hand drive and crossed OLLIE EAGLE (App AK Lim) at about the 200M when not quite clear, causing OLLIE EAGLE to take a slight check. KUTTNER continued to lay in, causing RAJA MAHKOTA (I Saifudin) to be tightened against the rail at about the 150M.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey F Yap, the rider of KUTTNER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 250M, he allowed his horse to drift to the inside under a right-hand drive causing interference to OLLIE EAGLE and RAJA MAHKOTA to be checked against the rail.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey F Yap’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 18 December 2017 and to expire on 30 December 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:40pm).

At about the 250M, PLATOON (J De Souza) was forced to switch out to obtain clear running. In the last 200M, MAGICAL BANKER (App S Uzair) shifted out under pressure and had to be corrected and eased to avoid contact with SIR RALLY (S Sandana) at about the 50M.

RACE 6 (R1552)       CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SUPER DRAGON (F Yap) jumped inwards, causing AMAZING (App KC Wong) to be taken inwards which resulted in HK DOLLAR (H Bukhari) and EXCITING PROSPECT (J De Souza) being crowded between AMAZING and KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL (App CK Khaw).

BEIJING STAR (App AK Lim) was slow to begin and always outpaced in rear.

At about the 300M, JP REGIS (S Salee) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SALAHADDIN (S Sandana) and was angled out to obtain a clear run at about the 200M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri and Jockey I Saifudin, the Trainer and rider of MAJOR GREEN respectively regarding the gelding’s performance today. Jockey I Saifudin reported that the horse jumped well and he had intended to ride the gelding from a forward position but the pace was strong and he sat closer to midfield. He reported that the gelding’s response in the straight to be rather one-paced and disappointing. Trainer M Sukri added that although the horse has never raced for him before, he was rather disappointed with the performance based on the horse’s trackwork.

The Stewards ordered MAJOR GREEN to be checked by the Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers as it appeared to sweat freely, however, no abnormalities were detected. A post-race veterinary examination of MAJOR GREEN revealed no significant finding. The Stewards ordered the gelding to be impounded.

Jockey H Bukhari, the rider of HK DOLLAR, was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 44(6)(c)(i) for hitting his horse forward of the shoulder.

ARECIBO (App L De Souza) and LIM’S GREETING (HS Gill) were both slow to begin.

Jockey I Saifudin, the rider of RAJA MAHESA, reported that at about the 500M, he took a precaution check to avoid the heels of GOD HELPS ME (App KC Wong).

From the 300M, GOD HELPS ME commenced to drift out under pressure. App KC Wong reported that he had limited ability to correct the drift due to his saddle slipping and as a result, ARC CARA (H Bukhari) was pushed out and the rider was forced to check off the heels of SCRAT (L Sofhan) at about the 200M.

HIGH COUNCIL (App CK Khaw) raced greenly in the straight.

At about the 300M, MOZART ECLIPSE (J De Souza) was switched in towards the rails and as he passed LARCENY (S Salee), that horse shied away in response and brushed the rail.

RACE 8 (R1554)       CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Acting on veterinary advice that JERAM VILLAGE was found to have a significant amount of blood in its right nostril with no sign of trauma in that area, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 5:11pm. The gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

HAWAIIAN KING (App W Faizal) was slow to begin.

FORTUNIQUE (L Sofhan) was very slow to begin.

At about the 1100M, METIER STAR (J De Souza) was over-racing and was forced to check off the heels of PORSENCE (F Yap).

Between the 900M and the 600M, BADCOE (HS Gill) raced without cover.

Approaching the 400M, HAWAIIAN KING (App W Faizal) laid out causing CRAZY CLUB to be tightened for room between HAWAIIAN KING and CRAZY CLUB. App W Faizal, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy, was shown the vision of this incident and warned to show greater awareness to the other runners under similar circumstances in future.

When questioned regarding the performance of HAWAIIAN KING, Trainer L Moy, the Trainer of HAWAIIAN KING, reported that he had entered the horse in 3 Barrier Practices subsequent to its win in its last start and the horse had shown its moderate ability at best in those Practices. He felt that the horse had been disappointing today, although this was perhaps explained by him racing in a higher grade and having lost ground due to a poor jump. App W Faizal, the rider of HAWAIIAN KING, stated that the horse seemed to lose concentration in the barrier leading to the poor jump. A post-race veterinary examination of HAWAIIAN KING revealed no significant finding.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

THURSDAY, 14 DECEMBER 2017, SLTC TRACKWORK

Trainer LN Danis was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for allowing TRUDEAU to do slow work on Track No. 2 during trackwork on the above date at the Selangor Turf Club, which is contrary to the Track Regulations.

…………………………

RACE 7 (R1542) SPORTS TOTO SUPREME CHALLENGE CUP 2017 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 10 DECEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 12 December 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into an incident at about the 1150M in which JERAM VILLAGE (S Sandana) and GHOST EMPEROR (App P Haris) were tightened for room on the inside of KEEN DRAGON (Z Khairil). They interviewed Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of KEEN DRAGON, App P Haris, the rider of GHOST EMPEROR.  and App W Faizal, the rider of ROSELLI, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy.

The Stewards observed that KEEN DRAGON slightly shied away from ROSELLI and shifted inside, causing GHOST EMPEROR and JERAM VILLAGE to be taken towards the rail. JERAM VILLAGE was then angled outwards to avoid contact with the rail and as a result GHOST EMPEROR was squeezed and forced to check. The Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such deemed it as a racing incident.

…………………………

 RACE 5 (R1540) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 10 DECEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 12 December 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, reopened an inquiry into the running and handling of LINCOLN’S EXCUSE (Z Khairil), which was switched out to obtain clear running at about the 400M and finished wide. When questioned on the race day, Jockey Z Khairil had stated that he did not take an available gap directly in front of him as he did not wish to start his finishing effort too early.

The Stewards interviewed Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of LINCOLN’S EXCUSE, and L Moy, the Trainer of LINCOLN’S EXCUSE. Trainer L Moy explained that this was the gelding’s second start for him after it had been transferred from Singapore. He had been disappointed by the previous run on 19th November 2017 in which LINCOLN’S EXCUSE was ridden forward (by a different rider) over 1200M and failed to finish off his race strongly. After consideration and having analysed recordings of the gelding’s previous races in Singapore, he instructed Jockey Z Khairil to ride the horse in a patient manner over today’s distance of 1400M. Jockey Z Khairil stated that in his opinion, it is generally an advantage to race wide in the home straight on rain-affected going and as such he preferred to switch outside.

Having heard their evidence, the Stewards warned Jockey Z Khairil that in future he should take all available opportunities to make progress in the closing stages of a race.

…………………………

 RACE 5 (R1540) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 10 DECEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 12 December 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of KABALI (App M Hanif) which raced well back in the field before making some late progress, despite laying in between the 400M and the 200M. They interviewed App M Hanif, the rider of KABALI, and Trainer LN Danis, the Trainer of KABALI and also App Hanif’s Master.

Trainer LN Danis informed the Stewards that until the week of the race, he was under the impression that KABALI would be transferred to another Trainer in Perak and would not race under his name again. He was therefore surprised that the Owner instructed him to enter KABALI for this race, as the gelding had been under a lighter training regime in the last few weeks.  Nevertheless, he did his best to prepare KABALI adequately for the race and started him in an Official Race Trial on 5th December 2017.

App Hanif stated that as the regular rider of KABALI, he knew that the gelding would struggle after rain had affected the going and therefore attempted to maneuver to the outside at the start of the home straight in an attempt to find better ground. He further added that he had reported KABALI to be unsuited by the going.

The Stewards reminded Trainer LN Danis of his responsibilities under MRA Rule 35(2) in that if in future he is in any doubt over any horse’s fitness, condition or eligibility to race he must consult the Veterinary Surgeon or Stipendiary Steward before presenting the horse to race. They warned App M Hanif that in future he should ride all his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query.

…………………………

 RACE 2 (R1537) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 10 DECEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 12 December 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of ENDURANCE (App CK Khaw), which raced in rear before making late progress. They interviewed App CK Khaw, the rider of ENDURANCE, and Trainer R Lines, the Trainer of ENDURANCE and also App CK Khaw’s Master.

Trainer R Lines explained that he was rather disappointed with ENDURANCE’s last performance on 22nd October 2017, in which the mare had been ridden aggressively to establish a clear lead but had compounded badly in the last 200M to finish eighth. He had therefore instructed App CK Khaw to ride her more conservatively on this occasion and was pleased with the result. He further added that although ENDURANCE was able to lead on 22nd October in a 1400M race, the mare lacks sufficient pace to race forward over today’s distance of 1200M.

Having heard their evidence, the Stewards reminded Trainer R Lines of his responsibilities under MRA Rule 35(8) to notify the Stewards of a horse which he intends to be ridden in a different manner than in recent starts. They warned App CK Khaw that in future he should ride all his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query.

…………………………

 RACE 10 (R1545) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 10 DECEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 12 December 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of GOOD MUMMY (App L de Souza) which was switched inside at about the 150M to obtain clear running and thereafter finished well under apparent tender handling. They interviewed App L De Souza, the rider of GOOD MUMMY and Trainer R Lines, the Trainer of GOOD MUMMY and also App L De Souza’s Master.

Trainer R Lines stated that GOOD MUMMY is usually ridden in a midfield position, but that he instructed App L De Souza to sit back in the field based on his opinion that today’s race contained several front-runners. App L De Souza stated that GOOD MUMMY was constantly changing her legs in the final 100M, which he reported to Stipendiary Steward Thanaraja Kasinathan after the race.

GOOD MUMMY was entered to race again on 16th December 2017 but was subsequently scratched on veterinary advice. When presented to the veterinary surgeon, she was 2/5 lame at the trot and also displayed a swelling on her lower left fore. The Stipendiary Stewards used their powers under MRA Rule 21(h) to order an ultrasound examination of the affected area which revealed an area of potential damage, comprising approximately 15% of the superficial digital flexor tendon, in the same place at which the swelling was observed. As a result, GOOD MUMMY was diagnosed with an acute tendon injury of the left fore superficial digital flexor tendon and Trainer R Lines was advised that the mare should be not be subjected to full training for the next two months.

In light of this evidence, the Stewards decided not to charge App L De Souza with a breach of any MRA Rule. However, they did observe that, in their opinion, App L De Souza was riding GOOD MUMMY with less than his full vigour even before he was alerted to her discomfort by the mare changing legs in the last 100M. With this in mind, they warned him that he would be expected to ride all his horses with vigour in the latter stages of the race, noting that he had received a similar warning on 16th September 2017. The Stewards will require GOOD MUMMY to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
