SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 20 MAY 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Race 1), upgraded to “Good” before Race 2 (Races 2 to 12).

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R641) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

FRENCH VINTAGE (S Ruzaini) slipped backwards as the gate opened, became unbalanced and jumped awkwardly outwards. When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that this incident had prevented him from obtaining a forward position and therefore affected the performance of FRENCH VINTAGE.

SATELLITE GENIUS (App AK Lim) was slow to find its stride.

FLYING NEKO (S Anandan) jumped outwards and crowded MAGIC RANGER (HS Gill) on the inside of SOKOR GEDEBE (App CK Khaw).

In the middle stages, FRENCH VINTAGE and SATELLITE GENIUS were both forced to race wide in order to make progress.

At about the 100M, D’GREAT LEGION (App L De Souza) laid outwards briefly under pressure causing PERCIUS (Y Aify) to be taken slightly outwards.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of ONCE A THIEF (App S Uzair), Trainer L Moy stated that he attributed the improvement of ONCE A THIEF’s performance to the removal of Blinkers on this occasion. He stated that App S Uzair had felt that the gelding was uncomfortable with the gear in his previous start. His explanation was noted.

RACE 2 (R642) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” prior to the running of this race.

NOVA ACE (App WK Lee) jumped awkwardly inwards and brushed with ELITE GUSTAVO (HS Gill), and was slowly away as a consequence.

ENDURANCE (App L De Souza) got its head up on jumping.

RED EASTERN (C Goon) was forced to race wide in the middle stages to maintain a forward position and compounded in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of RED EASTERN revealed no significant finding.

ASHQAR (O Chavez) was observed to be carrying its head awkwardly from the 400M. Jockey O Chavez, the rider of ASHQAR, reported after the race that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ASHQAR revealed no significant finding.

NOVA ACE was observed to stumble approaching the 100M and thereafter shifted inwards under pressure.

Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of SONG KID, reported after the race that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SONG KID revealed no significant finding.

App AM Aizat, the rider of ELEGANT DANCER, reported after the race that his saddle slipped backwards from about the 600M.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of HERECOMESMYMONEY (SU Lim), Trainer C Leck reported that HERECOMESMYMONEY is an inconsistent, erratic mare and may have run badly last time due to racing away from her home-base as she is a poor traveller. He further added that the overnight rain would have been in HERECOMESMYMONEY’s favour as she prefers some ease in the going. His explanation was noted.

PLATINUM TYCOON (SU Lim) was slowly away.

NOVA POWER was forced to race wide in order to make progress in the middle stages and then commenced to lay outwards at about the 500M. When corrected, NOVA POWER shifted inwards causing SILVER POWER (App AK Lim) to check and switch outwards to avoid his heels, and WINGED FOOT (J De Souza) to be bumped slightly inwards. As a result of this incident, the Stewards warned App N Varmah, the rider of NOVA POWER, that he must not allow his mount to shift ground unless it is safe to do so.

GHOST AFFAIR (C Goon) shifted inwards under pressure between the 400M and the 200M.

AMI ELEVEN (J De Souza) over-raced in the early stages.

GOLD KIDS (S Sandana) raced in a detached last place before making progress from the 400M. When questioned regarding the performance of GOLD KIDS, Jockey S Sandana reported that his mount showed no pace in the early and middle stages and although he had urged him to keep in touch, he did not wish to place GOLD KIDS under full pressure until he reached the straight. Having heard his evidence, the Stewards reminded him of his obligations that he should ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

When questioned regarding the performance of TAIL SPIN, Jockey J Mallyon reported that his horse over-raced in the early stages, and when restrained, showed little enthusiasm and got too far back in the field to be competitive.

PANDA BOMB (S Ruzaini) over-raced approaching the 1000M.

At about the 1000M, PANDA BOMB, which was racing in restricted room on the inside, threw its head up in response to D’GREAT EFFORT (App KC Wong) shifting slightly inwards. This caused PANDA BOMB to slow down in front of PROFESSOR X (O Chavez), which was forced to take evasive action and shift abruptly outwards to avoid the heels of PANDA BOMB. As PROFESSOR X shifted outwards, NOBLE LIAISON (HS Gill) was carried outwards in response and RAINBOW FISH (F Yap) was forced to check to avoid the heels of NOBLE LIAISON.

At about the 600M, PANDA BOMB was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.

Jockey F Yap, the rider of RAINBOW FISH, reported that after suffering early interference, the gelding was too far back in the field to be competitive.

PROFESSOR X which was beaten 21 1/2 lengths and STREET TEASE which was beaten 28 lengths, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

Jockey F Yap, the rider of AUSSIE EAGLE, reported that his horse over-raced in the early stages.

Approaching the 200M, ZHUHAI (A Aucharuz) commenced to lay outwards under a left-hand drive causing SPADE OF ACE (App AK Lim) to be crowded between ZHUHAI and CHIPS, and CHIPS to be bumped by SPADE OF ACE. As a result of this incident, Jockey A Aucharuz was severely reprimanded by the Stewards and warned to take all measures to keep his mount straight under similar circumstances in future.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri regarding the different tactics that were adopted on DAYFLIRT today. Trainer M Sukri stated that he instructed Jockey J Mallyon to ride a forward race and obtain the best possible position, including taking the lead if it was available.

MITAVITE FORMULA 3 STAKES

Trainer BT Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the use of visor on ELITE GOLD (HS Gill) within the prescribed time.

LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil) got its head up on jumping and over-raced in the early stages. LUCKY SIXTYSIX continued to over-race in the middle stages and, approaching the 900M, was shifted wide to avoid the heels of ELITE GOLD. LUCKY SIXTYSIX raced wide thereafter.

BATTLE HORSE (S Salee) was observed to be over-racing approaching the 1000M.

Approaching the 400M, SANGKURIANG (I Fadzlei) was shifted outwards to avoid the heels of OPTIMUS (A Aucharuz) and in doing so, SANGKURIANG bumped GORDON G (App L De Souza) onto ELITE GOLD which in turn bumped LUCKY SIXTYSIX. After reviewing the films of the incident, the Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 250M, OPTIMUS was disappointed for a run on the heels of JUBILATION (S Ruzaini) and was thereafter switched outwards to obtain clear running.

Between the 250M and the 150M, D’GREAT RICH (App AM Aizat) was disappointed for a run on the heels of JUBILATION and WHAT IFF (S Anandan), and was only able to eventually obtain clear running inside the 100M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer W Lim and Jockey SU Lim regarding the tactics that were employed on NOVA WARRIOR. Trainer W Lim stated that it was his intention for the rider to obtain cover on NOVA WARRIOR but due to the slow early pace, Jockey SU Lim decided to go to the front. Jockey SU Lim added that NOVA WARRIOR became somewhat excitable when being attended in the barrier and was difficult to control in the early stages.

Trainer W Lim explained that in future races, he would ask the rider of NOVA WARRIOR to seek cover but allow them flexibility to take the lead if necessary, noting that the horse had previously been successful under forward tactics in Singapore.

The Stewards observed that Jockey J De Souza had used his whip in the right hand at the jump on ELF’S DREAM, which contributed to the horse jumping inwards. As a result of this incident, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey J De Souza and warned him that he must keep his mounts straight at the start and must not do anything that could produce the opposite effect.

RED EMPRESS (C Goon) was slow to find its stride.

TOTALITY (App AK Lim) reared slightly as the gates opened and was slow to find its stride before recovering to obtain a forward position.
