Selangor 15 April Meeting

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 15 APRIL 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward)

RACE 1 (R482) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

MAJOR IMPROVEMENT (S Ipek) shifted inwards on jumping causing CRESCENDO (I Fadzlei) to check and to lose its position in the early stages.  MAJOR IMPROVEMENT continued to shift inwards causing ENDURANCE (App KC Wong) to take a check at about the 1350M. Jockey S Ipek was reprimanded as a result of this incident and warned to ensure that he respects the 2-length standard when crossing in front of rivals in the early stages.

SKYHAWK (S Ruzaini) over-raced in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SKYHAWK revealed that the mare bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

At about the 500M, MONTE CARLO (App CK Khaw) was denied a clear run on the inside of SKYHAWK which weakened and laid inwards. When App CK Khaw attempted to angle outwards, MONTE CARLO displayed a tendency to lay inwards, had to be corrected and was therefore unable to obtain clear running until the final 200M and never became competitive as a result.

At about the 50M, AMONGST THE STARS (App J Daniel) was switched inwards to obtain clear running.

When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that FRENCH VINTAGE was never striding out to his satisfaction and never travelling in the race despite his urgings. He added that he eased the gelding in the latter stages as a consequence. The gelding was impounded.

NOVA GENERAL (HS Gill) jumped slowly and awkwardly outwards.

SPEEDY WARRIOR (J Mallyon) was slow to begin.

POLO MASTER (App AK Lim) was carried inwards by SEA HORIZON (App KC Wong) shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1000M, NOVA GENERAL commenced to over-race and had to be checked to avoid the heels of JUST VITAL (Z Khairil) which rolled inwards.

SPEEDY WARRIOR which was beaten 21 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

AMI ELEVEN (App CK Khaw) over-raced in the early stages.

HAPPY DAYZ (HK Cheng) raced with its head up in the early stages. An inquiry into the running and handling of HAPPY DAYZ will be held at a date to be fixed.

PLATINUM TYCOON (App WK Lee) raced wide in the middle stages.

MR CONNERY (J De Souza) was disappointed for a run from approaching the 200M until the 100M. Jockey J De Souza reported that MR CONNERY persistently laid inwards under pressure and as a consequence, was caught on the heels of PERFECT PEARL (App AM Aizat).

The Stewards enquired into the improved running of the winner, EASTERN TOWKAY (F Yap). B Trainer Siva Kumar s/o Subramaniam, Trainer PS Kumaran’s representative, explained that EASTERN TOWKAY’s rider had been unhappy with the gelding’s action after its previous run on 7 April 2018. EASTERN TOWKAY demonstrated signs of soreness in his off fore foot shortly afterwards, leading Trainer PS Kumaran to conclude that the gelding may have been feeling the effects of a stone-bruise during the race.

The Stewards noted his explanation and Trainer PS Kumaran, who was absent with permission, will be reminded of his responsibility under MRA Rule 35(7) to report any matter which may have affected the performance of his horse in a race.

RACE 4 (R485) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

MEGUSTO (App CK Khaw) jumped outwards and bumped with GOLD POWER (F Yap). Thereafter GOLD POWER commenced to over-race, race greenly, and had to be checked sharply to avoid the heels of MEGUSTO at about 1200M.

At the jump, ROGER (Z Khairil) was forced to check to avoid the heels of ZHAN SHEN (M Ganeesh) which jumped inwards.

GRANDE AFFARE (App AM Aizat) jumped outwards and bumped HAPPY EDDINGTON (S Salee) outwards towards MARIO ATTILA (App S Uzair) which was briefly crowded between HAPPY EDDINGTON and ROGER (Z Khairil).

GRANDE AFFARE over-raced in the early stages.

GOLD POWER raced wide in the middle stages and although urged to improve its position between the 800M and the 600M, failed to respond.

GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim) laid inwards under pressure from the 200M and had to be corrected to avoid contact with HAPPY EDDINGTON at about the 100M.

fBULLISH LUCK (HK Cheng) threw its head up on jumping and was slow to begin.

SAYANG ME (App AK Lim) was slow to find its stride.

Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of BULLISH LUCK, reported after the race that his saddle slipped backwards from the 600M.

SPIN FIRE (M Ganeesh) ran wide at about the 500M.

At about the 500M, BULLISH LUCK rolled inwards, and had to be checked and corrected to avoid the heels of ORION (App KC Wong).

LIM’S SIGNATURE (Y Aify) laid inwards under pressure from the 200M.

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of NOVA CANO, reported that his horse laid outwards throughout and carried the bit on one side of its mouth. STREET OF LONDON (App J Daniel) was slow to begin and raced wide in the middle stages.

TILSWORTH MALI was outpaced in the middle stages.

Approaching the 300M, TALISMAN (App S Uzair) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running but whilst doing so, drifted towards D’GREAT RISE (App KC Wong) which shied away and made contact with the hind-quarters of SEGAR THE BEST (HS Gill). As a result, SEGAR THE BEST was turned inwards and shifted left, causing D’GREAT RISE to be crowded on its inside and to bump with TALISMAN.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Uzair, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer SB Tan was reprimanded and warned by the Stewards that he must take more care in future when maneuvering through a tight gap.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of LEE BANK, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 200M, LEE BANK (Y Aify) shifted inwards under pressure and moved across SEGAR THE BEST when insufficiently clear causing that horse to be eased to avoid his heels.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 23 April 2018 and to expire on 29 April 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:17pm).

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 7 (R439) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 7 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 15 April 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of LIM’S SIGNATURE. Evidence was taken from Jockey Y Aify and Trainer BT Lim, the rider and Trainer of LIM’S SIGNATURE respectively.

Trainer BT Lim stated that this was LIM’S SIGNATURE’s first race under his training and that the gelding had not demonstrated much ability in trackwork and trials. He added that in his opinion, the horse would be better suited by a longer distance than the 1200M of this race.

Jockey Y Aify stated that LIM’S SIGNATURE was crowded at the jump and was placed further back in the field than ideal as a consequence. He tried to get closer to the leaders between the 1000M and the 400M, but LIM’S SIGNATURE displayed a limited response until the straight. Thereafter, LIM’S SIGNATURE finished his race well despite being briefly crowded by MARINI WALTZ (O Chavez) which laid outwards at about the 200M. Jockey Y Aify added that LIM’S SIGNATURE, whose most recent starts in Singapore were on Polytrack, showed an awkward running action with a tendency to climb. He therefore felt it best to keep a tight hold of the gelding’s head with his left hand while using his whip with his right.

The Stewards noted their explanations but warned Jockey Y Aify that in future he must ride his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

AMENDMENT

RACE 9 (R452) M’SIA GROUP 1 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), TUNKU GOLD CUP, SUNDAY, 8 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of MR NEVERMIND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 100M, he crossed VOLCANIC GENERAL when insufficiently clear.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days.

The Stewards acceded to Jockey SU Lim’s subsequent request to commence his suspension with effect from 9 April 2018 and to expire on 15 April 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:10pm).
